Re: Official NBA 2K11 Impressions Thread (360, PS3)

^ Thats been a problem with 2k for YEARS and won't be getting changed anytime soon. I'm never equipping the XI's and a few other ones in this game.

Plus this year things have been made worse as the custom colors don't work half the time. The second trim color does nothing on most Jordans.

Been out of town the past week and only just picked up my copy. Super excited to have a crack after reading these impressions although won't be able to give her a run until tomorrow.

Re: Official NBA 2K11 Impressions Thread (360, PS3)

The last game of basketball I played really seriously was Tecmo Super NBA Basketball on the Genesis. I played some Bulls vs Lakers on the PC too, but not as intensive as the Genesis.

I also played NBA 2K8 and NBA 2K10 a few games, but never got hooked on them whatsoever. After getting reviews and comments about NBA 2K11 and also the fact that you can play as MJ, I was ready to give it a try.

I had expectations after reading reviews, but wasn't ready for what I saw. The intro of the 2K11 just made my jaw drop to my lap. Holy McKinaw was the only thing that got out of my mouth for a few minutes.

Jordan, Pippen, Paxson, Cartwright and Grant? You must be kidding me! What, you start against Magic, Vlade and Worthy??? Wow, Wow, Wow! Even if I was destroyed 36-29 by the Lakers, there was a fun associated with the game I didn't get for a long time.

Graphically, that game is really surprising. My wife got behind me at a moment and said : "Wow, he really looks like the real...aaaa...forgot the name, but he is looking the same!" She was looking at Scottie Pippen and like she said, players models are really great.

The game itself, well, I have to practice and learn the tricks to really enjoy it, but right out of the box, without any sliders adjusting, the pace is great, the feel is great, and there's no gimmick like you take Jordan, go from one end to the other without making any special moves, and dunk over someone.

I've practice a bit also, that was really helpful. Learned some moves and will have to work on others. Shooting and dunking will now be easier, even the fadeaway jumper ala Jordan will be a gem to use in games.

Oh, and the best of all is the fact that you can save your game. EA's got to get this back in their games. I mean, you don't always have time to play a full game and you shouldn't have to restart all over if you have to cut the game for any reasons. Last night, I created my player and was going to bed 10 minutes later. I could save the game and will continue when I get home tonight.

Out of the box, as far as I like NHL 11, NBA 2K11 just raised the bar. If NHL 2K12 would be as good as the NBA version, EA would definitly have strong competition.

This game is tough. I have to downgrade to rookie.

I like reading impressions from people that haven't played a hoops game in a while. Adds a fresh perspective on things.

I agree with you about NBA 2K11 raising the bar, too. I also have NHL 11 and while I enjoy it very much, I find it hard to make time for the game as if I have time for only ONE game, I'm going to choose NBA 2K11 right now. There's so much to do and the game is very polished out of the box ... a pretty big change for 2K as a lot of the prior NBA games needed a lot of tweaking almost immediately.

I'm a huge hockey fan, been raised in a Hockey-Soccer environment, so Basketball wasn't at all an interest within family and friends.

MJ did the trick when I was a teen and I'm still following the NBA but less than when MJ was playing.

I'm a bit like you, I often go with NHL, Madden and Tiger Woods game, and don't even have time to play Madden and TW after NHL's on the market since the game suck me in almost immediately.

But lately, there's been a taste for some NBA gaming, and ready about the MJ addition while seeing the demo quality made me think about it really much. Even yesterday, I was saying to myself : "Will you play the game more than few days??" Finally, I bought it because the critics were too good just not giving it a try.

I know that now, I'm going to play NBA 2K11 offline a lot, and when I'll have a taste for hockey, I'll play NHL 11 online.

Oh, and to be really honest, the disappointment I had with NHL 2K8 and 2K9, the poor quality of graphics and game overall made me rething spending 60$ for NBA 2K11. Now, there's only one question staying : How come NBA 2K11 can be that great and NHL 2KX canno't be the same?

I don't know if any of you guys noticed the gameplay changes that occurred with the latest rosters, but it has revitalized the game for me.

When the game first shipped, there were many aspects that were severely flawed in my opinion, passing be among the worst of them. I don't know what they did under the hood with the latest rosters, but things are definitely better in the passing game. Like I say in my 4th blog, if you're still having excessive turnover problems, it's on you. Before I would argue that faulty game mechanics were at play but now those mechanics seemed to have been cleaned up with the latest roster update.

This also affects difficulty setting. I'm playing a game now on Hall of Fame/Sim, and it is nowhere near the frustration that it was before. Also, I'm not seeing any artificial advantages from the CPU. What I do see is that they are legitimately playing smarter basketball now and really trying to analyze what I'm doing in order to attack it. That's basketball to me, and now I'm a happier customer because of it. No longer does the game feel cheap or scripted just to ensure a win for the CPU. Now the game is playing much more dynamically.

I'm losing right now 34-17, but I am happy to say that my decision making is at fault here and not some superman AI. I've only gotten 3 turnovers in the first quarter, against the Lakers. That would have never happened before.

I've been able to . . . scrimmage off the practice menu. Sometimes it's more fun than actually playing a game.

How do you do the quick pass or touch passing in this? That's the one thing I seem to be struggling with the most in this game, especially when I run plays that are designed for me to the pass the ball around quickly.

I think you hold the right bumper and flick the right stick in the direction you want to throw the ball.

I think you can only do it with one-button passing (just pressing A) and you keep A held down and move the stick in the direction you want to do the touch pass in.

So you're on the right wing with your PG at the top of the key and some dude on the opposite wing. Press and hold A to pass it to the PG and keeping pressing A while the PG has the ball and aim to the other wing. I THINK, not positive though.

Anybody else figure out the flick-flick moves? I just did and man this game got 10X better, just opens up your game even more.

Was playing against my cuz and I was going to work on him with Al Jefferson in the post. I was makin his DHoward look silly with all the fakes. Its also great to see that I can use the moves to get my self out of spots where normally I couldn't score.

Just a great move to have in the arsenal, whoever came up with that from VC gets major points with me. These moves are right up there with the momentum jumpers imo.
