Re: Whats the deal with My Player???

You have no chance on the shooting drill if you don't have at least a 60 in mid range. Even then that's no gurantee you'll make any.

The dribbling course is one of the easiest once you get the hang of isomotion(plus, the only way you can get +1 or +2 in Speed)

The challenge shot drill can be difficult if you're under 6'6 and have no veritcal.

Also, Overall has nothing to do with it, it's your individual ratings that are the problem.

2k needs to give the user an option whether or not they want to participate in ranked leader boards. If a user says they want to be ranked, make the user play the current game, but if a user doesn't want to have his/her player ranked, then allow the user to have control over the game-play sliders and difficulty settings.
This is called: create a player in the normal CAP section give him what ever attributes you want, turn on player lock and ball to your hearts content.

Great advice, I also noticed the more I worried about the grading bar the worse it went. haha it's so Zen, worry about the journey not the destination.

It really doesn't take that long to get decent if YOU put your skill points into the right categories. As many have stated already, the key is to focus your points on a select few areas at first. DO NOT spread them around because that'll make you good at nothing and unnoticeably better at a bunch of things.

The whole point of this mode is to go through the process of becoming a star player. The growing pains, which all players must go through. Instant gratification isn't your friend, let me tell ya.

I'd be open to 2k approaching the development of the players a little different. But saying that the mode is broken (which someone else said) is the kind of comment that makes us long time OS'ers shake our head with pity. It's like, "poor kids, this is just too much for them to grasp all at once"

Re: Whats the deal with My Player???

I feel the same way about the grading system being a bit too harsh. Has anyone got a charge called on them yet? Holy hell, if you are at an A you will go down to around a B- from getting a charged called on you. It took a bit to get used to but I think I've got it down, or at least I think I found the right kind of player for me.

All the advice I have has been posted in here already. The easiest way to gain good teammate points is set lots of screens. If you are a SG follow the PG and when he gets to around the 3pt line set a screen for him. Instant positive teammate points. Boxing out is another easy one.

I play a scoring SG, just got him past the 3 pre-draft workout games. All 3 games I had an A+ teammate rating. I accomplished this by setting lots of screens, tipping/stealing passes (get to know the opponent's plays), rebounding (my SG is 6'6, sometimes he gets lucky), contest shots, make good passes, assists, good shot selection, etc. Basically I was all over the place.

Not sure what difficulty you guys have been playing on but I play on Pro. Its still a bit of a challenge to me, hell I still miss a lot of open shots. My FG% is horrid, something like below 40% which is unacceptable to me considering how wide open my guy is most of the time I take shots with him.

So, to the ones who are complaining this mode is too hard, hope that advice helps out. Oh and get to know how to use the triangle/Y button, iso moves, and all that jazz. It helps tremendously.

you guys need to look at it this way. This my player mode, is a separate mode for a reason. And that is to give you a challenging journey through the nba. Giving you a low rating gives you a reason to keep playing, and it may take time to get to where you want to be. There are 82 games in a season. Thats pretty long. I guess thats how 2k saw it. The only thing i wish was different with the ratings, was if your player's phsyical attributes werent so low. But then again, you cant be that all around player that you want to be right away. So you will have to sacrifice. My advice for yall would be to start first with your phsyical abilities, and putting all your points into that.

                Holding The Ball Too Long

That is the one grade that really gets on my nerves, as a PG, you are expected to hold onto the ball the most and you get penalized for this.

Re: Whats the deal with My Player???

The mode is tough to get into and I admit I absolutely hated it when I started. I initially got drafted at the start of the 2nd round by the Wizards but absolutely bombed the summer league (finished most games with a D) so I had to go to the D league. Still wasn't doing well there but I slowly started raising my mid range shot, shot in traffic stats to the 70's and I wound up getting a decent mid-range shot. About 20 D-league games in (avg about 9 points, 2 boards as a SF, C rating) I had a 20 pt game/B- and got called up to the NBA to play for the 76ers.

As harsh as this mode can be grading wise, it is fairly lenient with letting your player get far better stats than he should for his overall rating. My OVR is only 50 but I'm now the starting 3 on the Lakers and averaging about 15 points/game. I think the key to this mode is just finding a niche your player is good at. My mid range stats are in the 80's now so it makes scoring pretty easy (still need to work on my layup rating though since my dude flat out chokes finishing around the rim).

                    is also true.

First of all the low physical attributes are, in fact, not realistic, but this is one of those times where in the battle of game design vs. realism game design has to win out. If you had all of your physical attributes from the beginning it would be super easy simply because of how much physical attributes matter in this game.

As far as some of the deductions

The reason why you're getting called for bad steal attempts is because your steal rating sucks. Every attempt will be a bad one when your steal rating is low. Get it up to 60-70+ and you wont see it as much.

The hold ball too long penalty is definitely poorly implemented with respect to the PG, the main problem being that the timer starts ticking from when you're in the backcourt. if it started after you crossed to the frontcout then it'd be ok. One way to avoid this is to pass to your guard have him walk it up then call for it back. I know this isn't realistic, but it's a solution. Try it every now and then.

On bad shot selection this, again, is a case your player sucking. When your player has like a 60 mid rating any shot that isn't WIDE open is a bad one.

The limit assist goal is indeed stupid, but the key to cutting down on assists is to try to slow your man down in fast break situations, and back off of him a bit so that he doesn't feel compelled to pass.

The allow O. Reb and allow man to score ones do kind of suck. The former only hits you when the guy you're supposed to be guarding gets the rebound. If you box him out not only will you not see this, but you'll get meter for boxing out. The allow man to score is really tricky. You've just got to pay attention to your arrows to see who the game thinks you're supposed to be guarding in defensive switch situations.

... as for your guys missing shots... yeah I really can't say anything about that. It sucks that they do, and it sucks that guys don't recognize when they're open well enough to get you some of the assists that you should be getting. Ray freaking Allen is notorious for this BS. Thus mother****er REFUSES to take wide open jumpers 80+ % of the time. I really wish I could alter tendencies in my player. He's ALWAYS trying to drive. I feel like Dave Chappelle as Prince whenever he gets the ball, "Shoot the J... SHOOT IT!"

                      This does bug me too.

Specially when the coach makes me play SG and the AI PG gets to hold the ball for 20 seconds.

It wouldn't be that bad if the deduction was small like bad steal attempt, but it's like a bar and a half.

I felt the same way for the most part against myplayer as most of you guys here but I just keep at it and I love it.

Yes there are a few aspects that I still don't like such as "allow your man to score" when there's a switch or on a fast break when a defender already picked him up.

I also didn't like how low your rating was but as someone said earlier 2k allowed for compensation by letting you put up bigger numbers than should be allowed by your rating. I'm a SF with a 56 overall and averaging 22 ppg, 8 rpg and 5 apg

If 2k let you come into the league at say a 70 then it wouldn't take long to be the best in the league and the mode would become old fast. Dominating is good once in awhile but blowouts every game would not hold onto most of the players long.

If you do the right things as far whatever your position requires you should get an "A" rating every game. I get hit for a few little things here and there but my positives far outweight the negatives and I'm averaging an A+ rating thru about 20 games.

I currently have a 6'7 Pg, I first made a 6'0 pg but it really sucked.. I'm playing on the Superstar difficulty now, i actually won my 2nd draft combine game and ended draft combine with an average teammate grade of A, my 6'0 gaurd ended with a C+.. I got drafted by the hawks and just finished my 2nd game. I'm averaging 29 points and 7 boards and about 6 assist.

You really just have to be smart, I'm 6'7 with a mid range of 93 so when i soar over the smaller point gaurds for the shot i always get "Good Shot selection."
I dont try to force assist passes, but I use the pick and roll or i just swing the ball around.

Set Picks, box out, and move without the ball!! Make smart moves and actually use the "protect ball" feature so you wont get ripped. Defensivly don't go for steals, just stay and front of your man and keep him from getting the ball.. Always box out!

                          GOOD LUCK!
