I tired everything - I'm not kidding - Durant was a MACHINE scoring 47 points on me, everyone else I pretty much shut down. His clutch is off the charts and this is literally what cost me the game - he took a TREMENDOUS amount of shots to get to 47, I think he shot the ball 41 times.

Yeah the whole team gets a boost, while your team can't hit from point blank range with Jordan. If it was just the star player then it would be fine.I must have been mistaken. I always thought "clutch" factor referred to Mike Jordan's ability to drain an 18 footer with 0.6 left on the game clock, not an entire team goin' beast in the fourth quarter to ruin your six point lead. Has there ever been any confirmation that "clutch" does in-fact mean teams get a fourth quarter boost?
But it isn't. It's the whole cpu team going beast mode on you and your team turn into a bunch of scrubs who all of a sudden can't catch, can't shoot, can't grab rebounds.
However it has always been like this in sports games. best to turn it off.Comment

Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating
So you had plenty of chances to run away with it then? Unless they had a lot of second chance points? Don't get me wrong. I've been lighten up too. Bargnani had 45+ on me. I tried double teaming and the like, but he shot 60%+ on me. He killed me even with double teams since he would pass it out to the open man. He's the only man that frustrated me to bits though. Bargnani, gtfo. It was ridiculous, bank shots, sky hooks, hang slams, jumpman drunks from the eblow, yes I'm exaggerating . . .I tired everything - I'm not kidding - Durant was a MACHINE scoring 47 points on me, everyone else I pretty much shut down. Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating
I agree, the catch up logic is really cheap. I was playing a game last night where the CPU was down by 15 at halftime then in the 3rd period shot 15-18 and go ahead by two by the end of the 3rd, they hit pretty much every show and those three misses were near the end of the 3rd when they had caught up, and the really annoying thing is, my shots (wide open) start to miss even when I am in the green, and it seems like a lot of my passes start getting picked off by the computer and that I cant rebound anymore, then once the cpu gets close or goes ahead it goes back to normal.I've been ahead three games now and then the fourth quarter comes up and wala - your team can't do crap. I'm only playing at the pro level, as of now I'm 0-3 in my franchise using the Grizzlies. I appreciate the AI, though it gets over the top on some things making sure it catches up to you. Is anyone else experiencing this?
It was amusing seeing their stats at the end of the game for FG% be 45% 50% 83% 42%. Then my stats be 55% 58% 38% 55%.
I agree it would be fine if just the cpu star players starting shooting at a 80% clip but not the srubs, and my team turning into a bunch of HS players who cant even complete a pass
I think even when the CPU is not using catch up logic, it seems like some of my passes to wide open players are picked off just to keep the game close and give the cpu a chance.Last edited by bruinsftw2k; 10-13-2010, 07:21 AM.Comment

Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating
I was playing an Association game last night with the New Jersey Nets versus the Miami Heat on All-Star/Sim. I was up by 17 at one point. As soon as the clock hit 3 minutes in the 3rd Quarter, something switched. It's like I could almost sense that a run was about to happen, and sure enough it did. I was knocking free throws down the entire game, and suddenly I couldn't hit a single freethrow. And one's and layups that I was getting earlier in the game wasn't falling anymore. Lebron, who had been dormant for most of the game, just came alive. I couldn't stop penetration. They were dunking at will. Whenever I had an easy fast break or block, the on-the-fly coaching box glitch would occur negating my fast break or my block opportunity.
I still ended up winning the game, but it came down to the wire when it really shouldn't. There is definitely some Rubberband AI built into this game.According to my old marketing professor, satisfaction is when product performance meets or exceeds consumer expectation.Comment

Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating
You're absolutely correct, that is what it refers to. There is a "change in momentum" aspect that is built into the game, but I don't think it has anything to do with clutch. I have never felt like those runs were overpowered or unstoppable. I've always found that making a few good plays in a row almost always cools things down.I must have been mistaken. Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating
Comebacks happen all the time in the NBA. I think we get more agitated and don't realize we are playing worse. What I've done to avoid that is to slow the game down, think about each possession (offense/defense), and take the best shots or be careful with who I guard.I was playing an Association game last night with the New Jersey Nets versus the Miami Heat on All-Star/Sim. On Pro/Sim, I had to turn the game off because I blowing the computer out consistently. Now, on All-Star/Sim - I haven't even won a game yet. It seems like the game, on that level forces you to play basketball, not videogames. When the game is on the line, winners want the ball.Comment

Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating
Remember when McGrady scored like 21 points in the final 3 minutes to beat somebody? I can just see it now, "NO WAY!!! OMGGZZZ!! HaXX!!!! That comeback AI is bu&^$%T!!!!!"
LOL!! It's the NBA, where amazing happens.
If you just blew out the CPU every game, people would be posting, "This sux, in the real NBA teams comeback, this is fake!"

Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating
I'm 5-0 playing on Allstar. If the CPU didnt make runs it would be too easy. I find that the runs are as much about them changing strategies as it is makes or misses so there is no reason for me to change the clutch slider.Comment

Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating
Basketball is a game of runs. Managing timeouts and setting the points of emphasis in the timeout menu seems to help.
From what I've experienced so far, I've made comebacks just as often as the CPU. There will be spurts of dominance in my offense at times and cold streaks in other moments, too. If my team or the CPU starts streaking, I would call a timeout and readjust.
It's natural to get really frustrated when things don't go as planned. Just don't let it get out of hand when it goes downhill. Regroup!

Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating
I was thinking the exact same thing. I don't want to play an easy AI, it gets old quick. I'm not changing the clutch slider either.Where they DO that? ? ?Comment
