Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating
Another "AI Comeback" Thread
It seems the computer cheats in every sports video game ever sold. The "miracle comeback AI" is simply the computer team being more aggressive.
Call a timeout and regroup. Try making these adjustments during the TO
If the computer has been playing a controlled half court offense and is losing big late in the game, they will make adjustments (as they should) and try to increase the tempo of the game. This includes pushing the ball up the court and pressing on defense.
To counter, you need to adjust your strategy as well.
On defense, pull your "Crash the Boards" and "Defensive Tempo" sliders back a bit, and give your team a chance to get back. If you're still crashing the boards hard and going for the steal, this will lead to several easy buckets for the other team. Also, bring your in your better defenders. Role players are there for a reason.
85% shooting = TRBL defense.
On offense, defeat the press with good ball handlers and well timed passes. Have your speedy guards in motion before the inbound and run around your defender for a quick advantage. Only finish the break if you have a no doubter. In your half court offense, the D will now be more aggressive and passing lanes that existed before will disappear. Use the over-aggressive defense to your advantage. Get the ball to your best scorer and wait for the double team. Pass the ball to the open man. Rinse and repeat.
If they're not double teaming, use the pick and roll to create easy drives to the bucket.
Above all, don't panic. Increased pressure can be used to your advantage. If the AI didn't make adjustments to in-game situations, this game would be boring. Learn to counter and begin enjoying the finer points in the game of basketball.Comment

Then you might have to outscore the CPU in situations like that. With sim stooping runs is 70% defense. I imagine that when the CPU gets their rhythm on Allstar and above they can really shoot it out of the gym on default.Comment

Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating
How can you outscore the CPU when they are shooting over 80% and hitting everything, even when they are double covered?
The close games are the most fun because it does not seem like the cpu is cheating but if you are blowing out a team, they just seem to start hitting everything, and your team just starts to hit nothing until they catch up.
I have blown teams out, but those are usually when I pull ahead in the 4th quarter and win by 10-15.
I had a game the other night, that the final score was 118-113 (8 min Q), and it was a fun game, the computer would make fair runs to go ahead after being behind but I didnt feel like it was cheap AI they just had some runs and their FG% was nothing like 80% it was just around 60% and i had a cold spell of shooting 30%.
Its when the Cpu is shooting 80% and I am still shooting my 50% which makes it seem really cheap.
The other thing in this game which I can over look is the passing, the passing INTs is what seems to keep a lot of games close.
I can have a guard open on the wing, and a lot of hte time i will pass to him (he is open) and it gets picked off a lot because of the slow passing animations.
I still love the game and have a blast, its just a smell pet peeve.Comment

Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating
I've played about 10 games and have seen ZERO evidence of comeback code. I'm playing on Pro with all sliders set at default. I've definitely seen the CPU go on some second-half runs, but guess what? That's basketball.Comment

Killing the clutch option and sliders has made it a lot more manageable. You'll get little spurts here and there, but it's not as constant has before.Comment

Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating
I think the whole clutch and clutch factor options within the game are used to try and create realism. These types of momentum shifts do happen in real lifegames, although not to the extent 2K should just make a lot of games be a comeback by the CPU. I mean lets face it, in real life a lot of teams do get frustrated when teams just all of a sudden flip the switch and outscore their opponent and that other team does tend to lose control of the momentum and miss shots and I think that's something 2K has tried to resemble when consumers are playing the game. I'm not bashing 2K (clearly I'm not), it's just one part of the game that has to be more sophisticated and more looked at as years progress. For now just turn it off I guess :PLast edited by chim; 10-18-2010, 06:35 PM.Comment
