Good post...I heard about the changes through others and also here on OP. Don't know if it was noted earlier, but there is a blog mentioning some of the changes on the homepage/blog section.

Luckily I have not played since the 12th and have not downloaded the new rosters yet, but how can I get the most updated 'official' rosters now, without messing up my gaming experience...

I understand about a potential game-wrecking patch, but what can be harmful about a roster update? Asking because you said, "luckily...have not downloaded the new rosters yet,".

I've had the game since release & each day I find more to "wow" about. It's a deep game & you can't pick it up & expect to dominate right off. I took a week just to get comfortable with the playbook! I'm not getting better at the moves. I win games but more importantly for me, I lose games! Then I can go back & see what I can do bettter. Like .....a real game!! Wow!

Minor tweaks could be made but the game plays fine as is.

I'm not sure what all the panic is about, I'm playing with the latest roster update and the game plays much better in my opinion. I don't find it easy to drive by my opponent and dunk at will as some where saying. I also notice that my AI teammates are much more active, setting picks and trying to get open. That imaginary wall that stopped you everytime you drove has been toned down a bit and that's a good thing. It's a much better game with the 10/13 roster update in my humble opinion.

There are people less interested in a sim experience & more in dominating & racking up stats. Anybody play Fight Night online? I've lost many a fight to guys who know how to take advantage of every glitch. Everytime I get beat by someone robotically throwing 200 punches non-stop, I ask myself "Did he really have fun?" Alot of the enjoyment in a game comes not just from the design but from the approach players take to it. Some just don't want a challenge.

              Good post.

One of the biggest barriers to getting actual "sim" sports games is the fact that true sim games would be extremely difficult with steep learning curves.

Too many people just want to score 40 ppg with their my player or their favorite NBA player...or start an association with the Nets and win 70 games in year one. It's lame. This kind of mentality encourages devs to make games that are arcady and easy for anyone to pick up and play. It's one of the biggest problems with EA football games and I'm glad 2k does a much better job not falling into the trap.

Re: Has or will Operation Sports "ruin" NBA2K11?

Are we playing the same game? I'm just not seeing this. Granted the Second Living Roster compared to original roster was different in that it became easier to play.

However, this third living roster update compared to second one improved quite a bit:

                1. No more blocking 10-15 shots. Blocking jumpshots was way too easy in previous rosters but in this one it is finally realistic. This was a big one for me and I was surprised 2K was able to fix this with a roster update.

                2. When not calling a play, off-ball players actually move and make cuts and come off screens etc etc.

                3. Help defense is improved. So out of a pick-and-roll play help the helper will arrive to contest the shot. Also help defense will arrive when you cross over someone and get to the rim.

                4. More mid-air collisions. This is in large part due to improved help defense.

                5. Can run fastbreaks more. Before it was very unrealistic with the low amount of fastbreak opportunities. Now it is at a more realistic amount.

                6. Full-court bomb passes are not as accurate for human users. For the CPU its still insane but for me I had some go out of bounds or were inaccurate which lead to a steal.

Only downside to this roster is the CPU not getting fouled enough. I get to the line 20+ times but the CPU only around 10-14 times. Previous rosters the CPU got to the line at a realistic rate.

BTW guys make sure you check that its on Simulation. Even if you save it, once you load the game again, it goes back to Default. I'm sure this will be patched.

I'm playinig on Simulation Superstar with default sliders/settings.

Love this post. I love the fact that I can actually get angry during video game basketball and yell at my TV like when I watch real games. Sure it's frustrating to not be able to cheese when I want to. But I'm actually learning, and thats what sports is about.

I think there are a lot of guys out there that say they are sim guys but the moment there star player struggles or they go on a losing streak the game is broke. I always use the Pacers but if i can win at will and easily make the playoffs i would be extremely upset. I hope to make the playoffs with them but i know in reality probably wont be easy this year and that is great news. I want a reason to get rid of O'brien anyway LOL. I want Scott Skiles to come back to his home state and win the Championship,LOL. Larry Bird if your on here i hope you see this.

Someone above mentioned "sim" players and as I see it this will be the battle the sports games will face forever. It is the only type of video game, other than monopoly, risk, etc., where people want things to be real life. The clarify the point, how many people would buy a shooting game, lets say Call of Duty, if when you get shot once, you die, or get sent to the hospital for 3 months to recover and then maybe get sent back to the fight, or else get sent home and have to help raise your family.

                        NO ONE!!!!!!!

Sports games are the only type of game where people want "reality", however, video games are not reality. I love when people complain that something wouldn't happen in real life. How do you know????????? Back in the 80's and 90's talk to ANY hockey fan and they would have said "Gretzky will never be traded" Uhhhhhh.........

Michael Jordan will not retire before his skill diminishes......Barry Sanders will break every football rushing record.

The thing is nothing is certain and you never know what will happen until it happens.

^^^ The more realistic a thing gets, the more it seems to be scrutinized. 2K11 out the box to many provided by far the most compelling and realistic NBA experience to date. But even this was not enough for some. Complaints of it being to difficult and 'this wouldn't happen in real life' seem to have prompted the recent changes for worse many of us have noticed in the game.

The tragedy is that 2K11 made the game enjoyable for the casual and 'sim' gamer through game styles. Still not enough for some people. They'd rather request that the game be patched than adjust sliders or *gasp* go down a level in difficulty.

We need to remember what it is was like years ago when he didn't have patches and we played games just for fun. I think a lot of us don't do that anymore and we just look for the faults etc. instead of just playing and having fun.
Years ago (previous consoles) devs couldn't put up patches so they constantly tested their games before release. Therefore on release day they weren't as buggy as games are now because they don't get a do-over. I remember reading some games were so buggy that sometimes they would cancel the current games in stock and re-release the game again (after fixing the bugs).

A couple tweeks and it's fixed, but you can't use custom sliders in some of the game modes...

I don't know if it's different now with the new roster, but I have to seriously questions anyone's observational skills when they say there were getting realistic stats with sim sliders out of the box...
I agree. The AI CPU on Simulation cannot make a 3 pointer at all. Always around 10%.

This is mainly due to CPU calling the same plays over and over again. Once this is patched expect more outside shots to go in for them because they will call different plays.

For those saying this might be 2K8 all over again, I don't think so. The reason is 2K8 or previous 2K's did not have Game Style. Now that its in 2K11 Simulation Game Style will still play like that post-patch (fixing bugs). Can't wait for the patch.

I haven't had my 360 connected to the Internet since I've got this game, so I am still playing the game with the original rosters.

What is the game like with the updated Rosters?
I take it that it plays more arcadish, more shots going in etc?

Isn't there an option where you can revert back to the original rosters?
Like make a SAVE ROSTERS, then when the game loads, load it, so it loads the original rosters?

Reason I ask is because I am about to connect my 360 to the Internet and hoping theres an option to revert back to the original rosters ?

I believe either under features, settings, or rosters there is an option for 'reset rosters'. FYI.

To the OP: I get what you are saying. The most important thing is patience, and for some people in this day and age it's just too much to ask. I had some of the same gripes about it being too hard, even got to the point where I didn't want to play anymore and took a few days off. But I've gone back at it the past few days, practiced a bit more, found a comfort zone, made a few tweaks to the sim sliders, and now I really feel like I'm starting to get the rewards of my efforts.

But for some people it's like a measuring contest, they have to play on HOF sim or else it's nothing. They have to brag about playing on the highest level, and then when they're losing and getting blown out they blame the game instead of lowering the diff level. I used to be the same way, trust me. But last year w/ 2K10 I finally lowered to Pro w/ some great sliders and had an awesome experience. Some people aren't willing to a) swallow their pride and start on Pro or even Rookie and b) be patient w/ the game and take the time to learn. That's the reality of the situation.
