I have tried that in the past and though I get that post up animation when pressing LT I cannot use the quick spin or step through move. If I try to my guy just moves in the direction I'm pressing the LS instead of waiting for me to press the LT or RT.

To switch to the closest man to the basket on defense, or to throw the ball to the closest man to the basket on offense...simply press the Right bumper(360) to bring up the player icons, then press the Left Bumper(closest man to the basket.) on defense this is great if you get beat off the dribble and you're want to make sure their is a contest at the basket....i hate nothin more than when I got da bulls and my defense gets broken down then Noah doesn't react to the ball handler like he does in real life....Comment

If you've been forced to throw up a bad shot in the corner due to the shot clock, don't leave your guy there staring at his hopelessly doomed shot. Get him sprinting back on defense. This year's game has really turned transition into a hotly contested area of the game and the CPU will murder you in this area if you're not aware of it.
If you're defending the low post, keep guys like big Al, Yao, Amare as far away from the paint as possible. Seal them with L2/LT and fight to get position on the pass in. You've lost if the get it in close. It becomes exercise in futility at this point. Lesser gamers will cry BROKEN. It's not broken, at that point, its a good big's bucket to miss.
I like to play defense with my Small Forward. Focus on shutting down their best swing man by staying in their hip pocket and force jump shots (some will go in, live with it). By forcing jumpers, as any coach will tell you, you're doing your job right. Intense D when they get the ball (L2/LT) will help trigger the contested shot animation, that's what you want. No easy looks. Sometimes you'll also be able to see the play developing for them, cut off that passing lane for the easy steal.
Defense leads to easy offense. Defense wins championship etc etcComment

Re: ***Offical NBA 2k11 Tips Thread***
You can post up from this position without dribbling, just press LT. The only time you can't post without using a dribble is when your big is facing the basket. There's no way to simply turn on your pivot so that your back is facing the basket. (well there is - you can triple threat away from the hoop - but there's no way to do it and go into a post animation AFTER doing it).

Much props for 24 and ehh in this thread. Just went into a play now game and man the difference is night and day. I realized i was doing everything too fast and I was doing inputs wrong for my post moves after ehh said he was moving the stick first and then taping the trigger. I feel so dumb, but now i got Brook beasting even more down low, and i'm playing a much better overall game.
again Props.HELLO BROOKYLN.

I think this will be a pretty useful topic. Did the thought of youtube cross your minds for video hosting as you can make detailed video tutorials instead of the 10-15 seconds or whatever it is that 2k allows. Keep up the good work.Where they DO that? ? ?Comment

Re: ***Offical NBA 2k11 Tips Thread***
The one thing I'm having trouble with is calling quick plays to take advantage of mismatches. For example, if the opposing team's PG gets matched up with Iguodala in transition, I'd like to be able to tell Iggy to post up on the block to take advantage of the mismatch, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.
Last year you could select the player and tell them to post, come off a screen, set a pick, etc. Is there a way to do this in 2K11? The only way I've been able to do it has been by tapping RB, selecting the player icon, and tapping RB again to go into "player lock", and then trying to position the player in the post. But once you player lock the CPU has control of the ballhandler, and sometimes they pass or get a shot up before I can position my locked player in the post to call for the pass.
So anybody figure out how to perform these "off ball controls" like in 2K10?Comment

Re: ***Offical NBA 2k11 Tips Thread***
As for my contribution to the thread, I'd like to remind everyone of the "Fake Pass" button, B. Fake pass is super useful in a lot of situations.
For example, if you are trying to get an entry pass to your big in the post, try a fake pass first to get the defender to react, then pass the ball into the post. Not only can the fake pass fake out the defender on the block (especially if he is trying to front your post player), but it also can free up a passing lane by faking out the guy gaurding your ball handler.
I also like to run a lot of plays where my SG and SF come off a series of baseline screens. I have Evan Turner set up with the 12 Straight, 12 Option, and 12 Up, which are all variations on the same set, but Turner will come from one side of the floor to the other (12 Straight), go down low and fake to the oppositve side and come back to the same side of the floor (12 Up), or fake directions a few times down low and come out on either side of the floor (12 Option). I've found that using the pass fake is really useful for these types of plays. You can sort of influence the direction of the fake pass with the left stick, so I'll press B to fake a pass to cause some misdirection before hitting Turner off the screens. Especially on the 12 Option, I'll fake a passm when Turner fakes a direction and get the trailer defender totally behind the play so Turner is wide open when he breaks free.
Also if your PG has an unused dribble, I've been able to open up a driving lane by running these plays, faking the pass to Turner off the screen and getting the opposing PG to try to jump the lane, and then driving to the cup with Holiday.
Also, try it out on fast breaks, either before you pull up for a jumper, or faking during a eurostep (this actually works!), or to fake a pass in one direction and send a pass in the other.
This game is ridiculous in its options. Remember: Use the Fake Pass (B). Use it throughout the course of running your plays to open up lanes and try to get the D to overplay. It works!Comment
