I don't get why the actual rating would matter to you if your player is performing at a level of a higher rated player. At that point the actual rating becomes irrelevant really and nothing more than an aesthetic way to track your progression as a player...

Re: Wow... My Player Mode Is Unplayable

I thought this thread was going to be about how pathetic your teammates are. Starting at a low overall doesn't make the game unplayable, it makes it unrealistic.

Also, I agree with you, but why is your overall so important? Just like in Madden, Overall rating should be gone. You can easily become a highly rated player by upping your offense and defense awareness, it doesn't make your player better though. You can bring up your shooting skills and still have a low Overall, but teams won't be able to stop you.

Also, if you want to get treated like a stud, then play like a stud. Why are you doing so bad that you were sent down to the D-league? Play like a stud and you won't have to worry about the D-league. Although, it does suck having to guard Dwayne Wade as a 43 Overall.

in the combine u play 3 games, and gives u oppurtunity to obtain skill pts to get your player better, then theirs summer league, which is 4 games by the time the nba season starts u should be rated 5 to 10 pts higher then what u started at,depending on how u distribute the skill pts u have received.

If you really think about overall raitings dont mean nothing,ur overall raitings are based off of your offense awareness and defensive awareness, you could have like 80 for all ur shooting attributes and be like in the 40s,but u can still kill,i dk why u people are complaining, word of advice make sure u increase ur offense awareness and defense awareness last. No need to complain and say its unplayable, know your guy limitations.

I kind of am both sides of this argument. My rating is horrible but I'm still averaging 12-10 as a 6th man back to the basket C. My complain is that some ratings are just unrealistically low. My 7'5" C has a dunk rating of 40 and can't dunk in game yet. I'm not putting points into dunk stats yet because a layup is scores the same. It doesn't affect the game at all but it is dumb.

Re: Wow... My Player Mode Is Unplayable

My only fault with the My Player Mode is the AI on the players I can't control. The other players on my team make really stupid plays and in most games I score over 60% of the points. The only time my team will actually win is when I build up a huge lead, but then when I ride the pine the other team makes a huge comeback lol. I'm on the trail blazers (lol) and the star player "Roy" ends up with 10 points a game, where I get 30 points a game with 1/2 the minutes he does.

Clearly there is something way out of balance, my team misses open shots, while I and the other team hit the open shots more often then not. Doesn't make the game unplayable, but it takes away from what would be something totally awesome.

I don't mind starting out with such a low ranking, because the ranking stuff is all garbage. If you wanted a high ranking all you need to do is dump points into Off/Def awareness. I'm maxed out in Mid range with 80s in a few other key areas, but I haven't really touched Def/Off awareness and my guy is barely rated over 50 lol. But if I took points out of some of those and moved them into the awareness stuff, I would be ranked in the 70s. So the rating thing doesn't really matter, it's where you put the points.

And I wish you wouldn't get drafted behind a star player. I got drafted as a SG to the Trail Blazers so I'm not getting a starting job anytime soon lol. Roy eats up my minutes, I wish you would get drafted by a team that could use you as a starter, not as a backup to a star player. But I know that happens IRL so I can understand why.

yes, its unrealistic to start off below 40, but its totally playable. i started off @ pro, switched to all star and still dropping the dimes, not saying i am good, but its still pretty easy... you people take out the the menu and read! learn the moves, go practice...etc. play on rookie if its still too hard for you. dont just come on and complain for something you are not good at... maybe nba2k isn't for you, too bad nba elite got delayed.

Re: Wow... My Player Mode Is Unplayable

Like a lot of you guys have already mentioned, there's a couple things at work here. First, from what I've seen, it seems much easier to make an NBA squad outright this season. In comparison, I feel I had a much stronger showing at the summer league and training camp in 2K10 and still ended up being a mid-2nd round pick who had to play 23 games in the D-League before being called up.

This year, I played miserably in Summer League. I shot around 33% and still worked my way into Orlando's starting lineup by my 25th regular season game (with no D-League visit). My career high right now is 30 points and I'm rated 46 overall. This leads me to the point I agree with, and that is just from an aesthetic standpoint, 46 is about half the rating it should take for me to replace Vince Carter in the starting lineup. With a rating like that I should never be drafted, let alone in the first round. Further, I had no business running in that predraft camp alongside the likes of Evan Turner and John Wall.

With all that said, if I did not sim a chunk of my games, it's safe to say that I'd be averaging between 10-15 points per game in the contests that I physically participate in. So as weird as it is that a prospect with a 46 overall rating is now more or less running the Orlando Magic, the overall really is just a number, with only a light reflection upon how I truly participate on the court.

To summarize, I find My Player Mode to be extremely playable, though I acknowledge the reality disconnect between a 40 rated player not only being drafted in the first round, but potentially developing into a star within the first two months of the season.

If you're tall you should put points into Dunk before Layup. A dunk gives you an extra bonus towards your teammate rating that layups dont get you. Actually, I'd probably go with Dunk then Standing Dunk before putting points into Layup.

good looking out. I wasn't putting points in layups or dunks. but now i'll start on dunks.

Is it realistic for anybody to dominate with a 49 OVR? No. 2K should make My Player tougher so that you wouldn't be able to perform well with such low ratings, increase the starting overalls, and make progression more difficult, so you couldn't become an 80 OVR player in the first year unless you started out as an elite player like LeBron.

The My Player experience should reflect what happens with rookies in the Association mode.

overall raiting is a measurement of all ur attributes and to be exact offense awareness and defense awareness boost ur overall more then anything u can be like a 49 overall but have decent shooting attributes,70close,80 mid range etc,so u can dominate, quit looking at overall doesnt mean nothing, all u need is certain attributes to be decent and u can dominate.

Never understood why 2K could not grasp this. It significantly slows player progression and would make the mode more playable overall.

i think they should figure some way to incorporate some sort of diffi culty setting.. like options to start as a 40, 50, 60, 70.. so some can play without feeling like there grinding through seasons
