You can use it on the perimeter as well. Like I said before. If you have someone who likes to draw fouls when you play too tight to him. Use the "hands up" to counter his pump & foul tactic.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

wow...this is quite the revelation Jeebs...never knew hands up animation could block shots with a height advantage. Will try it out over the weekend.
With regard to the end of shot clock, pump-fake to draw-foul sequence, nothing irks me more than that...lol. I always that the hands up animation was to be used when players had picked up their dribbles and as a method for effective post defense.[OS Vets NBA 2K10 Champion]

This hands up thing really can block shots, but u have to be a lot taller that the shooter or the shooter has to have a shot like Marion (ar Kevin Martin, Childress ect). Yeah, the hands up animation can block shots. Well it could in 2K10, but I havent seen one yet in 2K11.
I use it against people who like to pump fake a lot. This discourages them from pump faking all the time and throws them off a bit. And I do think it lowers the percentage of the shot if you have the right defender doing itLineup:

Thats another one of my secrets right there. I always pressure the inbounder. Especially when the person is trying to throw inbound to the middle of the court. It force them to throw to the corners instead. Which is a hard shot to hit off the catch. I do it all the time.
edit: I think the concept is going over your head KeatonLast edited by jeebs9; 10-29-2010, 04:00 PM.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

basically unlike 2k10 there is no manual one hand shot contest in 2k11? that "lightly
pressing button" doesnt workComment

Re: has anyone figured out how to contest jumpshots without jumping in 2k11?
Hands up blocking a shot is rare but it can happen, had steve nash shot blocked once in the corner in 2k9 I believe..lol"I'm so far ahead of my time, I'm bout to start another life

You cant defend without jumping. Thats one of my main gripes with 2k for years. That terrible hands up animation is useless, its so slow and you cant move the player. It may be a bit useful if the ballhandler cant dribble any more, but if he can he will rush by you like AI in his prime because the arms down animation takes a year and u cant move. Stupid. Hoped sp much 2k would rework this for 2k11...well, lets hope for 2k12.

Its difficult to defend a jumpshot in real life without jumping so ask yourself why would it be any easier in a Basketball simulation.............?Comment

I don't have the game handy with me right now to test, but I'm almost certain that tapping the Block button gives you a "low effort contest". Especially when I try to close out, it seems to work well. If I just jam the hell out of the button though, the defender goes with more effort. Also, make sure you're not holding the Turbo button when you're trying to block. You have to remember its the most aggressive attempt at blocking.Comment
