Re: Can I Be Any Worse At This Game? (Tips?)
I'll tell you how *I* play.
Coaching Settings:
Playcalling Offense: AUTO
Playcalling Defense: AUTO
Play Art: FULL
Show All Plays.
Let the coach call plays for you, and follow the art, if for nothing else as to learn the plays without having to search through them while trying to dribble. Once you are comfortable, you can call your own plays if you want.
The important thing to remember is that if some kind of play isn't called, there is generally a lot of standing around by your CPU teammates (they don't have a plan) thus if you try to freestyle, no one is cutting to the rim and the like.
Setting it to auto means a play is getting called every single trip up court. Whether you choose to follow the play called, or freestyle off the movement it creates, it gets your teammates into the flow of the game.
That's just my two cents, but I find its a very enjoyable experience, and the coaches are the ones calling the plays in real life. I'm playing the game.
EDIT: And the defense pretty much stays man unless you are down big and they start pressing. If you want to press or trap, this keeps you in man until you decide to do it (which to be honest is a real pain in the ***.)Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: Can I Be Any Worse At This Game? (Tips?)
If you are having a difficult time hitting shots, turn on shot feedback under presentation to get a better idea.
In terms of playcalling, I would look through the playbooks to see what types of plays would be better for a given player. For example, I assigned an alley oop or iso play to Iguodala instead of having plays where he comes off screens because he isn't a great shooter. The other thing with playcalling is to call a play as soon as you get the rebound so your guys can get set earlier. This also allows you more time on the shot clock if the play breaks down.
The last thing is to look at defensive settings because it helps determine how you play an individual setting. On-ball settings refer more to how they will react in a pick and roll situation. Sag off will mean that they are more likely to go under the screen and tight means they will go over the top of the screen. Off ball just refers to who the defense will help off of. The other thing to check is coaching profiles with defensive pressure and help defense. The lower the defensive pressure, the more they sag off of guys and lowering your crash board slider should help against teams that fast break a lot ( I can't confirm that one but I think that should work)."Ma'am I don't make the rules up. Re: Can I Be Any Worse At This Game? (Tips?)
Why is the jumpshooting Online so hard? I have the indicator on and it's green everytime yet I never make them. I just went 0-17 from 3 and only made 4 shots outside the paint. It doesn't matter if their wide open I'll still miss. Mean while when I do those stupid fadeaway contested shots that I don't want, they go in.Comment

Re: Can I Be Any Worse At This Game? (Tips?)
I did use some of ur advice...I used AutoPlayCalling on Offense and set the playart to Full....not sure what change that made tho??? Answer would be appreciated...
Nonetheless, I started out playing ok. I pretty much just followed the plays strictly due to my novice level of skill right now but I did ok for about 1 1/2 quarters. then I couldn't make any shots, they made adjustments, end of story.
again, I played on all-star. lol but I went and watched the czar video and the first thing he said as many of you have been saying, is I need to play on Pro if I'm struggling still. So I will do that and hopefully the biggest thing I hope to learn is a better grasp of the Isomotion moves.
I like what the 76ers dude said above...since I play with the Wolves always, I'm gonna fine tune my playbook to use my players more effectively. the plays for Beasley sucked and it wasn't putting him in a position where he could do much.
anyways, there's my update lol
thanks for the help everyone...Comment

I played two quick games and definetly need the play calling help. I'm terrible. And I've found that there is a steep learning curve for us old school NBA livers....steeeeeep.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: Can I Be Any Worse At This Game? (Tips?)
Somewhat of a rant, but I gotta get this off my chest.
So about a week or two ago I picked up 2k11. Right from the time I put the game in it's the best basketball game I've ever played. Presentation, gameplay felt smooth, they even got the rim to sound like a rim when you miss. For every afternoon I've been practicing, playing some Exhibition games, mainly just trying to get a feel for the game. Well tonight marks almost 2 weeks of this and I still have yet to accomplish anything. My defense sucks, and I can't make a break for the basket for my life.
One of my most used strategies is to use as much Shot Clock as possible, unless I have a good look. Once I'm at the other end I'll either do 1: Pass the ball around and turn it over. 2: Try to juke my defender out and just get shut down. And 3: Have to take terrible shot because of the shot clock going out. I rarely a able to get shots that are worth anything. And when I do I can usually drain them, but that's maybe a handful times a game.
I don't run many plays besides the basic ones "Pick N Roll, Quick Screen, Post up, etc". Is it just me or do the Pick N Rolls this year just not as good? Last year I could run the Pick N Roll pretty well, and now the player doing the pick takes about 10 seconds to set it up and doesn't really try to get open after I've gone by.
So all I'm asking is if anyone even read this, could you shoot me a couple of Ideas, or tips?
And on a side note. Is it just me? Or are there alot of shots that go in and out of the basket?
I recommend take the time to really practice ISO and the post up moves. Try them with different level players to get a feel for good ball handlers and poor ball handlers.
Settings, I recommend Pro, default, with "real shooting %" and "real free throw %". This game is fantastic for me on these settings.Comment

Re: Can I Be Any Worse At This Game? (Tips?)
Still need help with developing more than one good most move...If my guy stops backing him down, how do I get him to start backin him down again?
I don't do the Auto Plays and I scored about 20 points a quarter just mainly focusing on slowing down and doing simple things with players like isolation and pick and roll and then moving the ball to the open player or spot after the player reacts.
Just thought I'd share my progress since you guys have posted ur tips...thanksComment

a lot of luck with the pick & roll? against the cpu? how? tell me your secret young skywalker!! i really hate the way the cpu defends it with the big man ALWAYS jumping out on it causing the bump, then the pg (who always goes under the screen) magicly switches places with the big man to stop any chance of a drive, arrgghhh!!Comment
