NBA 2k11 My player attributes
I just started the myplayer mode last weekend, and i am enjoying it so far. I am a 6'4 athletic point guard. I was looking for some input from those who have been playing the game mode longer. Which attributes made your player better (maybe not in overall rating, but in performance on the court). in 2k10, I remember that vertical, shot in traffic, and layup were very critical. Has it changed this year?Tags: None -
Re: NBA 2k11 My player attributes
Im a SG and layups and shoot in traffic are definitely important. But I would focus on ball handling first because if its low you'll keep picking up your dribble if anyone gets remotely close to you. Mid range and shoot off dribble help a lot too. -
Re: NBA 2k11 My player attributes
focus on medium shot, shoot off dribble, consistency and durability first
then get your 3-pt up
get your ball handling to at least a 70-75
move on to verticals and blocks next
get quickness, hustle and hands up afterwards
work on steals and on-ball defense
increase ball security
you can get layups and dunks up before or after you work on your defense...i suggest after since the ability to steal the ball and play the passing lane gives you more fastbreak opportunities
****master the dribble course and make sure you get the +1/+2 in speed bonus
upgrade these stats last:
-off and def rebounding
-off and def awareness
-inside shot, close shot
-shoot in traffic
i already maxed out my stats for my 6'3'' all-around PG
-im averaging a triple double in season 2(28ppg, 13.1rpg, 14.5apg, 4.2spg)
-62-1 record
-lead the league in points, rebounds, assists, stealsLast edited by -ENiGMA724-; 12-17-2010, 12:57 AM.Comment

Re: NBA 2k11 My player attributes
this is a useful site to see where you stats cap off at http://2ksports.com/forums/showthread.php?t=270905
-it helps you see the cost of the maximum cap of each attribute(for example...standing dunk will cap out at 50 for an athletic PG and it will cost 214 skill points to move up from 49-50)
but yes...dont worry about rebounding...just get your verticals up to account for that....
hands are good for playing the passing lane and catching and intercepting the ball rather than just tipping it(although this still happens)
ball security is just to get ensure your own player against aggressive defensive players like rondo who literally try to swipe at the ball(still happens)
awareness for both off. and def. is simply only important if you simulate the game...i really dont simulate the game(so focus on this last)
if your shooting is good from midrange and 3point and have a high consistency and shoot off dribble...offensive clutch shouldnt really matter that much...
if your on-ball defense, steal, and hustle is high enough than defensive clutch shouldnt really matter that much either
****speed is the most important and expensive attribute...you have to seriously master the dribble course to ensure you get that random +1/+2 boost to speed...do this as many time as possible so that you can sell those earned skillpoints for credit in order to boost other attributes at a cheaper costLast edited by -ENiGMA724-; 12-17-2010, 04:09 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2k11 My player attributes
wow enigma thats smart, I wouldn't have even thought about selling the speed attributes. The only thing for me is, I'm just tired of being so bad! I average about 17 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists a game (just got the starting nod over brandon jennings), but I also average about 4 turnovers a game. Some of them are bad decisions by me, but most of the time I turn the ball over when I just drop a pass, or go for a layup and I lose the ball. I wish we could start at around 50 or 60 overall, instead of like 30.
I am now a 58, but starting to lose patience, the association mode wants me backComment

the game is frustrating in the beginning...and ridiculously easier once you have control of both offensive and defensive capabilities from your player...try playing a slower pace game on the offensive side of things...that's how i avoid turnovers...but it still happens unfortunatelyComment

Re: NBA 2k11 My player attributes
makes sense. I just tried the dribble course and absolutely failed! haha is there any way to practice it? I guess one way would be to turn off autosave, and just keep re-trying it, but I would feel like that would be cheating in a way.
oh btw, I just got named NBA player of the week! maybe I will stick this out after all...Comment

go into scrimmage or practice mode..where you can play with just your player...practice with the iso-motion....i find the stepback(lol yeah that's true) and the in and out(not so much anymore) to be the hardest...Comment

Bucks are a great choice for a team as well! That was one of the 3 teams I wanted to get traded to. I ended up at the Jazz. Keep at it and you will take the Bucks to great heights!Comment

Re: NBA 2k11 My player attributes
thanks guys for all your help! yeah ive gotten a lot better at it, now i get gold about 2 out of every 3 attempts, just haven't gotten that darn speed bonus once!
and yeah, surprisingly i like playing with the bucks. Bogut is a beast down low, and when maggette is on we are unstoppable. we have won 10 straight now and just took 1st place in the east!
I actually hope I dont make it to the finals this year, I want to have something to keep playing forComment

Getting +1 or +2 speed in the dribble course
So, I have created a 6-8 Small forward who averaged an A+ at the combine and was drafted 14th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks. I am now in the summer circuit and working on doing the dribble course to get my player’s speed up. I plan on getting speed to at least 97 and then when I earn speed through the dribble course, subtracting it from my skill points and applying it to other categories. Remember you need to turn off autosave within my player to do this. If you don’t get speed, just back out, load it up and try again. Once you get speed, make sure you save. If you get +1 speed, take it!, do not get greedy. The +2 speeds are very hard to come by.
I just earned +2 speed on the dribble course by NOT using turbo and doing all 4 iso moves in a row without missing one. If I get all 4 in a row, I usually finish with the bottom timer showing 33 or 34 seconds left. I usually leave the most difficult iso move(s) for last, such as the half-spin and the double cross. I have actually learned how to do the half-spin with some confidence but I still manage to do the in-and-out half the time that I intend to do the double cross.
So If I miss an Iso move on one of the first four times through, I decide to only perform the 2 or 3 that I know I can do and I just keep going through the course as fast as I can without using turbo. Now here comes the tricky part. Sometimes I will do the last iso move when there is less than 5 seconds left on the clock and I will get speed. Sometimes I ignore the last iso move and just do spin moves or behind the back through the iso cones and I get speed. I typically get a lot more +1 speed than +2 but I will take +1 because is so ridiculously expensive (right now it takes 2326 SP to upgrade speed, I am at 94)
I have also spent some skill points upgrading ball handling, ball security and off-hand dribbling. I have 60 off hand (I’m wearing +4 off hand dribbling shoes during drills), 53 ball security, and 52 ball handle. I still get these bonuses quite often so I am going to try to upgrade them some more, which I hope will decrease their likelihood of occurring.
Now, I do not believe that the dribble course is purely random. There is a theme, if not a subtle pattern or reliability to the dribble course results. If you are a terrible dribbler, look clumsy, or you hit cones, or you take a long time making those switches between hands, you are not going to get speed. Be as fluid as you can, don’t use turbo, make decisive moves around the cones, don’t stop! The only time I stop is to perform size up or hesitation, which require a stand dribble.
I have another crazy theory which helps me get speed. If I’ve tried 3-4 times and I don’t get speed, then I simply play a my player game or a turn off my system and come back later. In both cases I have found that I will come back and get speed my first or even 2nd time through!
I have done the dribble course so many times now, I have the moves down cold. I will say that you really need to go into shootaround and practice the moves. They are in the menu of the game but you will see a full guide on how to do the moves in the post below.Comment
