You guys that have just bought the game that don't know a lot about 2K or b-ball in general should go to OS's Youtube page and then do a search for Da_Czar. His videos will help you tremendously.

As for settings, I would say you'd want to start on Rookie/Casual and then slowly progress your way up from there.

Shot-stick timing is more rewarding as it's tied into release points, but since you guys don't know many current-day NBA players, it may be best to just use Real FG%, which is more ratings/stats-driven. It will allow you to focus on things like running your plays correctly, floor spacing, matchups, etc. instead of worrying about when to release the R-stick.

        Basketball in a nutshell:

On offense take high percentage shots. On defense be tough as hell and rebound.

-High percentage shots on offense means getting the ball to your scorers in good positions to score. This usually means shots as close to the rim as possible, by driving the ball or using big men in the post. It also means getting outside shooters open looks by running plays, or by driving the lane and feeding the post, then kicking it out to them when the defense collapses.

-Being tough as hell on defense means you don't give guys easy baskets, and you primarily do this by staying close to your man and between him and the basket, and then getting a hand up to contest the shot.

-Rebounding on defense means you only give the opposing offense one shot each time down, because offensive rebounds usually result in an easy bucket for the other team.

          Thanks for the heads-up Bubble.

I get the the whole "good looks", etc. but it's just not second nature to me how something like hockey is.

But if I remember correctly, this is pretty much exactly how I got into football and the Madden series. I randomly picked up a game, I think Madden 08, and slowly but surely I became a pretty well rounded football fan and, dare I say, aficionado.

The in game practice tutorials will help you with your skills, specifically iso dribble moves and post moves, both essential parts of the game. And you really don't need to learn everything in the game to get into it, but the depth is there if you want it.

I could see this game turning you into an NBA fan instead of just a baskeball fan.

I am not even that big of a basketball fan and I am hooked on this game. They had me from the first time I rented it and started me with playing with Jordan. I had to go out and buy it and I have not regreted it yet...

Alright so I have played a few days

                    - Really polished game, I'm loving the commentary (beats the hell out of Gus Johnson)

                    - Hard hard hard game, I've been playing Rookie using RP%, I have eithe been hanging close, or gotten destroyed the 4th quarter.

                    - I've been getting alot of passes tipped away, I've been used to running fast breaks, high powered offense (NCAA Basketball 10 mostly), but now I have to tone it back with this game

                    - Played a bit of My Player, looks like you are being judged by a drill Sargent, still a fun mode though

                    - Started a Association mode with the Twolves (I live in North Iowa, its close enough), once again I've been having trouble putting teams away.

I'm looking foward to playing the game more and knowing the game more

Does it play a strong enough game of basketball to recommend?

Or any other thoughts are welcome!

If you are a basketball fan you will enjoy this game. If your a sim basketball fan you will LOVE this game. So amazed with this game that I chronicle my offline 'chise online now! Gettin' my lazy *** to do that is simply amazing

This game has a VERY steep learning curve. This is the first 2k B-ball game i played, my previous game being ncaa10. You just have to make smart passes, take smart shots and play solid D. The hard part is figuring out what a smart pass actually is.......Unfortunatly there is not much room for error, but that will help you in the long run, trust me. I know that the game can feel like this But it definately gets easier .

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

I mean, NBA Today 2.0 alone is beyond compare.

Also, I want to say thanks again for everything guys. I took some of your advice, and just slowed down, taking my time while keeping an eye out for better looks/passes and stayed close/tough on defence and things are slowly starting to fall into place. One of the silliest, yet toughest, things I've had to overcome, is coming from going up and down the field/rink, to the basketball left to right and right to left. :o

The other thing that gets me though, and here's another question for you guys, is the play-calling/art. If I don't use it, I have no idea what's going on, but when it's on, I can't figure out what I'm supposed to be doing. At least on defence I keep it simple; man to man. (LOL)

So my question is, do you use auto play-calling or do it yourself? And do you have the play-art on the screen/court or have it turned off?

Just another quick one, how do you have the "coaching" aspect of the game set-up?. Like auto-rotation or play-calling, etc. ?.

Thanks again for everything guys !.
