I mean, even if I could dribble better than him, James admittedly is destroying me - for he is a 7 foot behemoth of a man who had enough skills for his size to make it to the NBA. But is there a chance a regular joe could out rate some NBA guys in some categories (while acknowledging it doesn't mean we're about to take them down in a game of one-on-one)?

For instance, do you believe you could beat Ben Wallace in a free throw contest? 2003 John Stockton in a dunk contest? Arvydas Sabonis in a footrace? Bo Outlaw in a curl and shoot from midrange contest? Oliver Miller in a hustle contest? Out-ball handle Chuck Nevitt? If the answer to any of those questions is "possibly. . ." then I'd think you'd warrant above a 25 rating in at least some categories (even though I'm not sure things like speed help an overall).

I think it's an interesting premise.
    In a word... YES...

Jerome James is in the NBA. He is there for a reason. Not just because he is 7'1... I'm sure he dominated high school and college... You have to remember, he is among the 300 best basketball players in the world 30x12=360 players.

To think that you would have a chance in hell vs him in a one-on-one game is hilarious to me.

players like Eric Snow, and Damon Jones averaged 30pts a game in high school, and look what they score in the pros. And still, both of those guys, RIGHT NOW, would destroy you in a one-on-one game.

K first off im pretty sure most of the teams have more then 12 players. 12 is just the minimum amount of players a team can have so your math is slightly off. Second off it is the NBA which means national that means best in the country not best in the world. Most of us are the best but there are some good europeans so i wouldn't call james one of the best in the world. However he is a solid player.

I say this with respect, but I am unsure if you fully or even partially garnered the essence of my post. I am not (and was not) wondering if I'd be able to beat Jerome James in a game of one-on-one. Here is my line stating as such:

". . .even if I could dribble better than him, James admittedly is destroying me - for he is a 7 foot behemoth of a man who had enough skills for his size to make it to the NBA. . ."

Rather, my question was, would Jerome James be dominating me (like I know that he would)
because all of his skill levels would be above mine or would there be any chance I might still have a high skill level in some or any categories? And regarding this set of questions:

"For instance, do you believe you could beat Ben Wallace in a free throw contest? 2003 John Stockton in a dunk contest? Arvydas Sabonis in a footrace? Bo Outlaw in a curl and shoot from midrange contest? Oliver Miller in a hustle contest? Out-ball handle Chuck Nevitt? If the answer to any of those questions is "possibly. . ." then I'd think you'd warrant above a 25 rating in at least some categories (even though I'm not sure things like speed help an overall)."

The point there was to illustrate that I do believe it's possible for some basketball players who aren't in the NBA to have a better rating in some very specific categories in comparison to some NBA players. For instance, however low Ben Wallace's free throw percentage is, I know quite well mine would be significantly higher. Does this mean I think I could beat Ben Wallace in a game of one-on-one? No way, Jose. Rather, I was just speculating as to what my ratings may be in some select categories since I believe I may be better than the worst in some specific aspects of the game.

I'm going to tread a very, very fine line and acknowledge that while even the worst NBA player was likely the best player from whatever area they came from and would trounce all "normal" basketball players, it's not as if they are superhuman. To re-use my Jerome James example, yeah, he'd be killing everyone on the court in my area, but I'm doubtful that he'd be killing us by utilizing a lightning quick cross-over dribble and first step while running faster than everybody in the city. Therefore, if his ballhandling skills in 2K11 were hypothetically ranked a 25, I find it'd be possible that us "normal" folk could register on this scale in that particular category if we excel in such an ability.

The only ratings that may matter for us would be vertical, strength, quickness, FT, durability and endurance. I don't care if you have a good mid-range jumper, handles, or can find the open man, you can't do it on a court with 9 other NBA players. Not happening. None of us could sniff time in the D-League.

We don't even fit in with 2k's rating system. We'd be too low.

I've always liked this video because it kind of puts an NBA player's gift in perspective. Granted, Chris Andersen is one of the more athletic centers we've come across in the past couple of years. But still, what we have is what appears to be about a 6'5''-ish high school kid (who plays at a small college now) playing one-on-one against his idle, Chris Andersen. We think Chris Andersen and we know he dunks and blocks shots, but he's not likely someone who NBA teams would trust as a jumpshooter or even ballhandler. And yet, here he is bombing from 20 feet and dunking on this kid after taking a step or two into the paint. NBA players. . .are good.

He is not one of the 300 best basketball players in the world just for "playing" in the NBA, the NBA is full of scrubs like him who probably would get destroyed by a lot of euro players.

Put yourself in an nba players shoes. Their job is basketball. Everyday, practicing, learning, working out. If your job was to be a pro basketball player, do you think you could hang?

Depends, am I starting today? Or am I going back in time and choosing basketball over hockey in high school, and putting the same amount of time and effort in as they did?

Being 6' 5" and playing PF/C all of my life. I would imagine the transtition to the league to be difficult. I would have to move to guard or really undersized SF. I probably have the hops, handles, and speed of a good streetball player. Don't think I've ever played anybody over 6' 9" though. In 2K11 ovr is heavily affected by off/def awareness. I probably know enough to coach a middle school team, but nowhere near NBA status.

Good passer - least consistant j ever = around 30

I would not fear Jerome James in a game of 1 on 1 though! -ha-
