totally respect your opinion, but 46% from the field? thats a perimeter players FG% not a PF's. he's a monster rebounder but struggles to defend/score in the post and has a serious lack of talent on his team. has good range, but my money says he's a solid player that just gets to shoot a lot. david lee with more range, essentially.

al horford is a true 4 with high upside and i thought his rating at 81 was perfect. there's no way i'd rate love higher than him.

With the actual rating system , I don't think Dirk will be rated anything above 90, he plays 0 defense and defense is one of the most important factors calculating the overall rating. So unless they change that he is probably going to be something like 88-89 at best.

But why people care about the overall rating? He is going to be a BEAST on the offensive end even with a 86 overall rating

              LaMarcus Aldridge 90?

I hope you are right as I'm a big blazers fan. LMA is my favorite player and I consider him a top 5 PF easily...

But that's too high for him

                Re: Early 2k12 Player Ratings

I still don't see Dirk being above 90 because he doesn't have the typical skills of a power forward, which drags his overall rating down. Offensively, he's like a 95, but defensively he's a 67, and when it comes to rebounding he's like a 76, but only because he does go after defensive boards.

Looking at the rest of the defending champs:
JJ Barea: 78....................... significant bump to his 3 point shooting, and scoring in general
Roddy B: 69....................... IQ drags him down
Corey Brewer: 72................ an average all around player
Caron Butler: 77................. he'll stay low unless he proves 2k wrong with play on the court
Brain Cardinal: 57...............He's the custodian, he shoots 3's and gives hard fouls
Tyson Chandler: 81.............rebounds, defends, and has developed a 10 foot jump shot.
Rudy Fernandez: 74............ same m.o. as previous games
Brendan Haywood: 67......... and 90 block like most centers have in 2k
Dominique Jones: 64........... just a slasher who doesn't play D until he proves otherwise
Jason Kidd: 82.................... His IQ will float him up that high
Ian Mahinmi: 64.................. he can dunk, and run the floor
Shawn Marion: 79................ a change in how he plays, more post, more layups, more D
Dirk Nowitzki: 87................. held back by poor post defense and offensive boarding
DeShawn Stevenson: 66....... solid defender, that shoots spot up 3 pointers
Peja Stojakovic: 56.............. he'll still have 84 3 point, though
Jason Terry: 81................... improvements to his passing improve his rating as a guard

                For Carlisle
                Maybe a B+ Offense, with A- Defense, and a C+ Teacher

I'm wondering what Bird's rating will be. Since he had no atleticism, no vertical, no dunking no great speed, not much handles etc... which means that 2K will have to get him right with high passing, rebounding, 3pt shooting ratings etc....but the thing about Bird is that he had qualities that it's hard to rate - like never giving up, faking more athletic players to score with ease, diving for loose balls, making a great defensive play when it counts etc.. I'd like to see all that in the game, and I'm still wondering what his rating will be...

wade should be rated the highest for current player he is the best in the game today and he proved it in the finals if he hadn't gotten hurt and lebron didn't choke he would be holding a trophy right now with the mvp of the finals

I'm guessing there will be multiple teams this year, lile we had multiple Bulls' teams last year. So you might have the 79-80 Lakers along with the 84-85 Lakers, and so on.

al horford is a true 4 with high upside and i thought his rating at 81 was perfect. there's no way i'd rate love higher than him.
Kevin Love is mostly a perimeter player... did you watch him at all this year? Scored a ton of his points from midrange and downtown. The only real times that he was in the paint was when getting offensive rebounds and attempting putbacks.

And Al Horford barely plays any forward for the Hawks... their roster doesn't allow for it.

So unless they change that he is probably going to be something like 88-89 at best.

But why people care about the overall rating? He is going to be a BEAST on the offensive end even with a 86 overall rating
That's a very accurate scouting report... from 2003. His defensive is at least up to par with the NBA averages... I haven't checked the numbers but I'd expect that they would support this. And perhaps more importantly, his play supports it. Don't confuse a lack of blocks and steals for bad defense. His is MUCH improved, particularly in the last 5 years. He's gotten better and better.
