Re: PLEASE let us use classic teams online
i think they should let people use classic teams online...i don't know why that's a bad thing. it's not like those teams are more overpowered than the current Lakers or Heat rosters...if people can use a stacked team like Miami, why not let people use the classic teams as well?
Using Jordan online is no different than using Kobe...they probably have about the same ratings anyway. a Person using the old school Bulls would have no more advantage than someone using the current Heat. In fact, the current Heat team might have more highly rated players (from a 2k attributes standpoint) than the Jordan Bulls did.
People assume that just because it's a "classic" team, that means that the team is overpowered, but if you really look at the rosters of those classic teams, their rosters are about on par with elite teams of today (Miami, L.A., Boston).Last edited by blues rocker; 08-22-2011, 09:44 AM.Comment

Re: PLEASE let us use classic teams online
The teams are not overpowered or overrated ... the main stars are, greatly ... at least MJ last year (2k11) was ... as a clue, you could drop MJs mid rating or whatever other to the minimum and it will do almost nothing to his overall ... in fact, he wasnt a 99 or 98, he was over a 130 (maybe reeditor could demostrate this, not sure tho) ... with the sad part beeing that it did close to minimal effect the oncourt performance of him too.
Anyways, I am all in for 2k to let them use classics online.
P.S:
As someone already stated, custom rosters for online seasons/associations would be an utopy ! ... I dream for that to happen !Comment

Re: PLEASE let us use classic teams online
Why is everyone all scared? I play with OKC and even Philly and I laugh when people pick the Heat or Lakers vs me. I actually lick my chops because it doesnt matter who they pick against me, they are going to get an L 95% of the time.
Aside from that, I'm with online lobbies (classic lobby and current lobby). That seems like it would be more fun.
And 2k...for the love of God...fix the menu! Its not hard to navigate but it should be easier.Comment

Re: PLEASE let us use classic teams online
This is the difference between NBA 2K12 being a nice step up from last year, or being the game of my dreams.
It's a no-brainer for unranked games...but I'm really curious why so many people are opposed to using them in ranked games. It seems it comes down to 2 major hang-ups people have:
1. It would ruin competitive balance.I've seen many complaints that ALL we would see is MJ and the Bulls every game. I'm not sure how that would be any different than seeing Lebron and the Heat in every game. The classic teams are just regular NBA teams...many of them not as talent-heavy as some of the modern team. Most of them weren't even good enough to win a title...so how would they break the balance any worse than modern teams? If anything, it improves the balance by giving people more options amongst elite teams....so instead of seeing 9 out of 10 players using the Heat, we'll see 4 people using the Bulls, 3 people using the Lakers, 2 people using the Celtics, and 1 person using the Mavs. More options means more variety. If people are dead-set on using the elite teams....having only one or two to choose from means we'll see those same teams over and over.
2. Ranked games are supposed to mirror the '11-'12 NBA season. Not sure where this even comes from...but many people seem to think ranked games are supposed to simulate the season. This isn't the case at all...ranked games are simply a competitive Quick Game that counts. There are clearly game modes made to simulate the season (Assosciation and Leagues). There is simply no reason to limit competitive ranked games to modern teams....excluding classic teams, a HUGE portion of the game. If you want to simulate the season, there are plenty game modes designed specifically for that. On top of that...what if there is no '11-'12 NBA season?...would that mean there are no ranked games? Why if "ranked" means only modern teams, does 2K11 have classic teams on ranked Team-Up?
What it comes down to is there is absolutely no reason to prohibit people from using classic teams. If YOU don't want to play with or against them, YOU don't have to....but your fear of those teams should not prevent other players from being able to use them.Comment

They should be two separate modes. I don't want to constantly go up against classic teams with my Wizards.Originally posted by Flips HouseThis is the difference between NBA 2K12 being a nice step up from last year, or being the game of my dreams.

Re: PLEASE let us use classic teams online
I can see your point. But those same opponents would all just be Heat or Lakers users anyhow, at least then you get a whole lot more variety. The reality is, if you don't want to play those match-ups, you don't have to...you can quit before tipoff without the game counting. Should the inconvenience this would cause someone who doesn't want to play against a certain team, prohibit others from being able to play with them?
I agree, ideally there should be separate lobbies for people to enjoy the game however they want...but there is no reason for "ranked" to belong exclusively to modern teams.Comment

They can both be ranked but they should be separate. We also have to consider the pre-3pt line classic teams and how that would work.I can see your point. Re: PLEASE let us use classic teams online
We are not living in the 90's. Ranked one on one games = Modern Teams n always will.. Deal wit it.. Let it b unrank.. Let it even be ranked for jus Classic teams.. Have a diff leaderboard for it..Comment

Re: PLEASE let us use classic teams online
Nope, we're not living in the 90's, smart guy. You are, however, planning on buying a game that is FEATURING 34 historic NBA teams...but you don't think people's games with them shouldn't count, because YOU don't want to play with them. Hey, I thought it was 2011, but oddly enough, I just watched Muhammad Ali get knocked all around the ring...in a ranked videogame. Don't think about it too hard, it'll pop your brain.Comment

Re: PLEASE let us use classic teams online
I really hope that classic teams are able to be used online, even if only for unranked games.
I have a group of best friends that I knew in high school that all live in separate states, but we played (and still play) A LOT of 2k11. Being nerdy basketball 'historians', having the ability to use classic teams against each other, albeit unranked, would stop us from playing any other games for at least half a year.Comment

Re: PLEASE let us use classic teams online
Seems strange to me that the most opposition to being able to use Classic teams in ranked matches is a guy who uses the Lakers. Are you worried that your opponents' will have more options to equally match up with you? For the last how many years, you've had a built in advantage if your opponent chose 28 of 29 teams...are you worried about not being able to win if you don't have the ratings edge going into the vast majority of your games?
I can understand why people who use lesser teams would be concerned, but Ive got zero sympathy for a guy who constantly chooses elite teams...then is so adamant on limiting his opponent's options.Comment

Re: PLEASE let us use classic teams online
Classic teams online in unranked games is something I've been begging for for two years now! The fact that 2k hasn't announced this makes me worried that it won't happen again, which would be a huge disappointment.
