    Re: Was NBA 2k11 overrated?

All I know is I was still playing the game until mid august this year, I only play assocation in 2k, and I was playing my raptors one until year 2014-2015, where most of the teams have fake players, the game was that good~

Under no circumstances is 2k11 over rated. There are certainly aspects that, after months upon months of playing through them become tiresome (ie. psychic pass lane steals), but it doesn't amount to the game being over rated at the time of its release.

      Period!
I'm not saying you should use the 11 month time frame as a reference point against the future incarnation of the game, I agree that's naturally going to be an unfair comparison. But let's say even 6 months in, the main point is you've been exposed to aspects of the gameplay that you wouldn't have experienced at the initial game's release.

I appreciate the way I worded it with my opening post certain does state a comparison drawn to 2k12, and that wasn't my intention, albeit it is a natural conclusion to infer. But to rate a game on its laurels when its released is as bad as rating it when its life cycle is over. Of course 2k11 was going to rate high if its inevitably going to be compared against 2k10, which is ultimately what a lot of reviews did. This is to speak nothing of the shine that came with the fanfare of the addition of Jordan and the unfamiliarity players would have with new aspects of a game. What's important is a holistic view of the game, and that stands regardless of how frequently the game comes out.

greatest bbal game ever. thats all i heard even before it was out. over looking flaws do to you being excited about the game, then later on think" dang that part of the game was real messed up." that means you overrated that part of the game, thus overrating the game. i play ball, fast breaks=broken, cpu on harder levels cheating=broken, my player=broken to a degree, patches attempt to fix problems, steals=broken. i loved the game when i first got it. 5-7 months later, when hype dies off, i cant even really finish a quarter. becouse i cant just overlook it now.

          Re: Was NBA 2k11 overrated?

The way I see it is that 2k11 was good for its time(last year through now). At the time there was arguably no previous basketball game that was better and 2k11 introduced new things like the Jordan challenge and some classic teams that were never done before in an NBA game so it deserved all the accolades it got even though it had its fair share of flaws. SO no it was not overrated, for me it has had more lasting appeal than any other game I've ever played.

That was last year and this year is a whole new ball game(pun intended). Its like video game evolution.

            Video games have flaws.

By your logic, there isnt a game released that was any good.

it was good at tye end the flaws just stood out to much to me. i mean as far as bball games and being sim, the gameplay had things seriouly lacking. im a realist. i didnt think just cuz it was the latest 2k it was the best bball game ever. reread my post and tell me those flaws couldnt have been corrected.

yall need to put the kool aid down. if something is rated a ten off hype then lowered to a 9.7 that means it was overrated.

yall pay sixty+ for the game. 2k gives you what they feel is worth 60+ i feel they didnt follow through with 2k11. stuff that was promised wasnt delivered.

you didnt disput it being the best bball game ever but i bet you want to see improvements. how can it be the best ever when certain easily attained fundamental bball is absent.

if hes a 99 but should be a 98 in the game but hes only a point highier cuz of an inflated 3 point average. that would overrate jordan.

just becouse its the greatest bbal game you have ever played doesnt mean it cant be overrated when compared to playing it the first day till a few months ago.

The general consensus was that the game was the best sports game ever released. The reality is that it was the best sports game ever released.

I think it was fairly rated.

That's the short answer if you'd like the long answer let me know and I'll gladly type it up for you.

I mean, the game was pulling 9s and 10s everywhere, but surely if 2k12 is an improvement in so many different ways, that rating can't hold.

Admittedly, I do think that a lot of this is due to the way that the games are reviewed, in what is essentially after a day or two of playing, where the more prevalent gameplay/balance issues aren't as obvious, and I think this is always gonna be the case for video game reviews. So do you think, looking back at it now, that 2k11 deserved all the accolades it received?

I give props to the OP for being courageous enough to make a thread like this. In my opinion no 2k11 isn't overrated, because it had the perfect mixture of gameplay, modes and graphics. No other Basketball game( idk about sports game i haven't played them all) has had a combination of all the previously stated things, so yes it does deserve the accolades. Everybody and everything has flaws, nothing is perfect man or man made. I heard somebody say 2k12 is 2k11.5 and I don't have a problem with that because 2k11 was fantastic. So everything after 2k11 is like a sequel. As far as reviews the best sites for sports games reviews are operationsports and gamespot.

I suppose this is the point where our clash of opinion arises. You cite NBA 2k11 as the best bball game ever, and the reality is that's going to be true, both because it is the product of a number of incremental improvements as well as showing some quite notable polish in terms of presentation etc..., and is on the most powerful console.

However, does this warrant it getting a 10, citing it as near perfect? I'm not just a sports gamer, I play games across heaps of genres, and so I will appraise NBA 2k11 on the same merits I appraise every other game. A game should get a 9 or a 10 for being great, not simply because its the best of its brood.

To illustrate, consider a 2D Fighter like Street Fighter. Comparing it to NBA 2k11 is largely frivolous given how different the games are, but here's one thing, that as a game, Street Fighter has over NBA 2k11 and by a wide margin: Street Fighter is playable at a highly competitive level. NBA 2k11 doesn't even come close in the competitive sphere, and this is due to a large number of core gameplay problems from AI issues and gameplay exploits, which really hampered the gameplay experience for me and detracts from my enjoyment of the game.

And this happens every year, sad to say. I think its why I'm kinda happy there's a new release every year. By the time a year's through, I want nothing more to do with the game, because upon seeing all its flaws and the intricacies of the game, it just simply doesn't retain the fun that it had when I first put the disc in. And this happens every year, without fail; even the best basketball game ever couldn't overcome that issue. You're going to say a game deserves a 10 when it won't last past a year? Starcraft and Counterstrike are two games which people are still playing today, despite being released 10~ years ago. Those games deserve 10s.

This is why I think its overrated. As we've clearly seen, even suggesting the idea is heretical to a number of you, but don't treat me as if I'm running off my mouth without thinking.
