Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
That is not necessary the case, I have played enough people who play offball and just guard the least offensive capable player all game, I can understand playing offball if you feel your cant adequately defend a overpowering offensive player but hopefully we wont be put in this situation in 2k12.Last edited by coolcras7; 09-16-2011, 06:35 PM.PSN=Coolcas7Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
Let's be honest here. Off ball "cheesers" do not play off ball defense the way one really would. They take advantage of the AI off ball offensive player's lack of aggressiveness and the movement freedom to play off in an unrealistic manner to double the ball and take away passing lanes in an unrealistic manner. As coolcras7 alluded to: some pick the defender of the worse offensive player and turn him into a free "extra" defender. Others play off ball as a crutch because they feel it's too hard to play on ball. The latter is understandable and that is the crowd that is being "rewarded" for playing the harder roll. There isn't much you can do about the ones that cheese except tighten up the loose ends in game play (movement, passing lanes, offensive intelligence, etc...). But at least you can make it more rewarding for the other folks.Last edited by Boilerbuzz; 09-16-2011, 06:29 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
Yea i had a problem with it until the dev came in and explained how it balance everything outThat is true but it is much more engaging to play D on ball where your main focus is to deny penetration. The added boost just balances everything out, the A.I reacts much faster, when playing online it is immediately obvious if your playing an a player who only plays offball.
I get where you coming from but and i agree that some use it to cheese. But when i play off ball its not to cheese. I play legit offball d. I responded to EarvGotti because he was making it seem like everyone who plays offball dont want to play d which is not the case. I play offball with d12 because he is my favorite player. To me it is so fun for me to come across the paint on help d, and send someones ball back to them.Let's be honest here. Off ball "cheesers" do not play off ball defense the way one really would. Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
its the same in 2k11. is you change to right stick defense and press UP just as the offensive shot animation begins you will put one hand up. same with if you hold INtense D and move towards offensive player at same time he attempts jumperComment

Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
no just stand by their defenders actually. look at the scrubs in 2k11 that guard the PG. pass to the PG and they switch to a big in the paint, once PG passes they switch back. FINALLY 2k gives advantage to on ball defenders

so you will leave shooting bigs open to get blocks? you are canceling dwights ratings anways by controlling himYea i had a problem with it until the dev came in and explained how it balance everything out

Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
I get what your saying but it is much harder to play on ball D so the player should get a little reward for it, that could be my opinion but still. Also when you do help D on a offensive player who has the ball and block someone doesnt that count as on ball D?Yea i had a problem with it until the dev came in and explained how it balance everything out

Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
Im by no means saying some dont use offball to cheese or dont use it for a legit reason. He was saying that offball players play offball because they dont like playing d which is not the case. This is why i was annoyed at first about the whole onball/offball thing before it was explained. All offball users are being grouped into the same category as players who dont like to play d, exploits the ai, or cheesesThat is not necessary the case, I have played enough people who play offball and just guard the least offensive capable player all game, I can understand playing offball if you you feel your cant adequately defend a overpowering offensive player but hopefully we wont be put in this situation in 2k12.Comment

No one, and I mean NO ONE, is arguing in favor of cheese when it comes to playing off ball. If the meat of your argument has to do with handling those kinds of players then you've got yourself a nice little straw man to beat up. Have fun.
I know guys who can use the contact animation on ball to get steals 90% of the time no matter what the ball handler's ratings are. Would it make sense to claim that on ball defense is for cowards just because some guys choose to abuse flaws in the game? Theres a good number of variables that come into play. It looks as if many of the flaws that forced you to play off ball have been addressed. In any case, a man can play off ball and excecute in a perfectly fine, non-cheeser (sim if you like) abusing manner. The game can and will look like it does on TV.Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
But what im trying to say is that not all offball users play like that. But every offball user is being grouped in that category.
Have you not see orl d irl. They cant stay in front of my grandmother on her walker. Dwight has to come help everytime someone drives to the basket, hence the fact that he is getting tired of doing everything and may be on his way out of orl. And its all a chess match. If you see me coming to help everytime and leaving a shooting big open then i deserve to have it kicked out on me for the open shot. Dont confuse me with someone who camps in the paint. I help when help is needed playing offball.
And you right it is a little harder playing onball d. You have mimic the ball handler movements. You have to react to everything he is doing. I understand that now after the dev came in and cleared that upComment

Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
Cheese is not at all the meat of my argument. I only mention cheese if the person im responding to does. And there is no flaw, exploit, or whatever that forces me to play offball sometimes. Its simply the fact that dwight is my favorite player. and sometimes its so much fun to play d with him. I wasn't referencing you bro. I think we're on the same side. I'm perfectly fine with people playing off ball if it still represents the game as it looks irl.Cheese is not at all the meat of my argument.
