Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
Wow no more auto jumps when hands up or intense D!!!!
Also on ball D getting rewarded by contesting the shot better. Buh bye pain camping!!!
Right now it looks like almost all the cheese from 2k11 has an answer in D! Im sure cheesers will come up with new stuff, but still great great stuff!“If you meet the Buddha in the lane, feed him the ball.”-Phil Jackson

He will be doing the "Controls" Insight early next week. They saved that for last because that will have a video along with it showcasing all of these gameplay aspects.San Antonio Spurs

Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
This whole great write up on improvements and the first thing you do is point out something you consider a negative. I wouldn't make this a big deal if you hadn't been doing this consistently the past week concerning this game. I'd be more interested to hear what you like first then your dislikes. I do respect your opinion though as that's what keeps the developers on there feet and helps the game to improve every year.Comment

Right but (again it could be how I am reading it) it seems as if as long as you have your hands up and moving around it will auto contest.
It would be better implemented making it a "flick" or a button press.
I may change my mind so as with all other insights the jury is still out. But I've been preaching for this for years so I hope it isn't as simple as just holding either LT or the RS.Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
This is the insight I was most looking forward to besides the online insight. I can honestly say I came away being more then impressed. Being able to finally move and put your players hands up on the defensive end is huge! Also, the lateral turbo should be a nice addition as well.Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
I think it said only if you are in hands up mode will it auto-contest. And if you want to leave the ground (ie. actually trying to block the shot instead of just contesting) you have to hit Y. So unless I read it wrong, I wouldn't really say its "automated"...the user has to be doing something for it to happen.Comment

"Now, we give you an added incentive to play the ball on defense. For one, user-controlled defenders will impact the shot percentages more than an AI-controlled one. When you control the defender and perform hands up defense or jump up to contest, your shot release defense will be higher than just leaving it to your AI teammates."

Re: NBA 2K12 Developer Insight #9- Defense
Screen Defense
This setting controls how the onball defender will react to the screen. You can set it to any of the following:
Auto – Let the game logic decide.
Go Over – Onball defender will always attempt to go over the screener. This is a good strategy to use against good outside shooters.Comment

I'm fairly concerned about how this will affect the My Player mode. I don't want the CPU making 60% of their shots just because I can only control one player.Comment
