As I am a person who is all about authenticity in video games, I can appreciate the aesthetic alterations. I don't know what it takes for the developers to be able to match toe-to-toe with the NBA as we see it on TV (or if it's even legally possible for whatever reason), but if in their eyes they feel that they can do a better job to match what his mod video displays, and they are able to do it, I would be more than all for it.
Of course, this is coming from the guy who went into Photoshop and made stadium color palette alterations for MLB The Show (one is actually in my avatar right now). I am not just a converter to this concept, so to enthuse me with this video comparison is no difficult task. You may have a better idea of the comparison but what you're showing people here isn't fair - it's not even the same game. Your friend was also talking about 2k11 - the game that ships unmodded.

You can't compare PC gaming against Xbox 360/PS3. It's new tech versus 6+ year old hardware. Of course any game will look better on the PC just because of differences such as PhysX, Mods, DirectX 11, and AA. With that said I am wondering how many FPS did you get in that video for PC. Seems like you got below 30 FPS... You first have to make sure your game on the PC runs on 60FPS steady before you can post a compare video. Because if a game running at 30FPS it will look better than the 60FPS game.Comment

As far as what BS is trying to say, I think he just wants people to look at the color palette changes. I like the change to the camera as well, but that would probably lead to a choppier framerate (or as Pared puts it, the "stop motion" effect) if they used this for the console versions. You can see what kinds of sacrifices the 2K team has to make for their baseball game to maintain a smooth framerate, and this game is no exception.
Though again, BS is asking if it's okay for the 2K developers to change actual color hex codes. If #CD0000 more closely reflects the actual Clippers jersey than #CD1076 (I have no idea if that's actually what 2K uses), then he's asking if this is something that the team can actually do by going into their code and changing. I don't think that has anything to do with a jittery framerate, user play or an outdated PC version in the same franchise. It's a comparison just like my comparisons were for the baseball stadiums.
In other words, he needs the mods to make the comparison, because the mods are the comparison. Just look at the colors and the camera, nothing else. Are those more closely tied into what an actual NBA broadcast looks like? Okay everyone pay close attention because I will re-post this in the original post.
Obviously 90% of you look at the video without reading first!
Point of the Comparison: To display what the game should look like by default! Using mods as a comparison is to display what the graphics, colors, details and overall authenticity of each team, player, arena and more should look like by default out the box.
Note: This is not a PC vs 360 thread or comparison! It's to display the changes that should be made to look more like the real thing.
Also Note: This was recorded with a software that eats up memory and framerates, but displays the best HD visuals. This is not about the gameplay, it's about the Art of the game! (NOT A GAMEPLAY COMPARISON)Comment

That PC video looks nothing like a real game does on TV.
In no way is color intensity that garish and strong unless your TV is really screwed up..

Then I suppose I have to ask... what is a "mod" exactly? This is a serious question.
At OS, mods are moderators. In gaming, I believe that mods are modifications. Let it be known that I have not ever personally modded a game, or experienced what it means to mod one whatsoever.
However, I assumed it had to do with making alterations to the files that are in the game. If it means changing the color code from one hex number to another, then so be it. That is a mod. If it means adding default sound bytes and score overlays that will help the game look and sound more like it's a live TNT broadcast, then it can be done with the proper sprites and audio files.
Both of these things are something that the developers can do with their own files, modders are not technologically superior to the devs for making this possible. So technically, these things can be done by default (there are some things that can't though, like increasing framerate or texture counts because of console limitations).
Though, the real question is: are they legally possible? Developers can't just whip up TNT-like presentation without a license with TNT, so something like that is out of the question. But what about color changes? Are the NBA style guides specific to certain colors (I'm referring to their hex counterparts)? If not, wouldn't we want to find something that is a more correct color for the jerseys and stadiums? I'm not asking this rhetorically, I'm actually curious about the answer.
Keep in mind that I do not know whether BS's changes are more correct. In other words, I can't think off the top of my head whether the level of saturation, etc. represent a television broadcast more so than the game we play out of the box. I merely said that I appreciate his effort of wanting the game to appear more authentic. Does it? I'm not sure. If 2K feels that they are off-base with their authenticity, however, I'm sure they'll want to do what it takes to get it right. To nip this in the bud. If you can't get the game to run with decent fps with your resource heavy mod neither can 2K. 2K also has limitations to consider. (360's & PS3 are actually weaker than a lot of computer rigs, especially newer ones) This technically doesn't excuse wrong colors, but it's a fact that darker colors take up more memory than lighter colors, so that might be the reasoning behind the color issues. You might accept "stop motion" gameplay with superior graphics(Maybe you simulate more than you play so it might not be a big issue to you?) but I think the mass public would sacrifice 15% lighter textures for silky smooth game play, anyday.Comment

So FPS isn't a issue. Stop motion or whatever this crappy word is, is because of the recording software Fraps.Comment

It is the FRAPS recording software or whatever BS uses to record his videos that make them "jittery", not as smooth. I have the same issues. When I'm not recording, I get well over 100+ FPS. So to say that the Xbox or PS3 isn't capable of running it, is not correct at all. You're just replacing files. If the 360 and PS3 have original files, on the PC you overwrite those files with their "updated" files... No other enhancements needed.
The recording software though, when running on the PC, WITH the PC game playing, will cause your Computer to Lag. Because you're tying up your resources playing the game AND recording. If you're recording 360 footage, the 360 shares some of that "task" by playing the game, so the PC only has to do the recording of the game.
A Hypothetical situation, IF we were able to load up FRAPS on the xbox 360, and record directly from the 360, while playing on the 360, it would be just as jumpy/jittery as the PC video. BECAUSE, it's performing both tasks. So it's not his fault on the quality of the video.
Mods' can be as simple as replacing/changing a color through hex-editing, or importing new headshapes/models. To say whether or not a system is capable of it, that depends on the mod at hand.
I'll take my PC with TNT overlays, fixed faces, fixed colors, any day over the 360/PS3 counterpart.Twitter - WTF_OS
