Stop motion is an animation technique used when creating a video.

    Example:

If you can't provide at least a smooth comparison, maybe invest in some hardware that can. It still wouldn't be a fair comparison, however, as has been pointed out repeatedly in the thread by many.

Re: 2k11 vs. 2k12 Video Comparison HD

LOL yes, but stop-motion is literally the act of making still images look as if they are moving. What he is experiencing through recording is a framerate issue. I know that you know that, but the term used made me chuckle a little bit, because it does indeed seem like that's what it is.

I think the comparison is fair enough. He doesn't yet have a copy of 2K12, so he can't make any real comparisons until then. If and when he does, I'm sure in a month's time he will be able to post another video with mods involving visual changes, including the noticeable color and camera differences I keep pointing out. There are also obviously facial and textural differences, but I'm not going to expect that 2K can do some of those things. The big standout one are the colors. I don't know which one is better, but I just know that they are different. FRAPS or no FRAPS, even a still image would show that the colors differ in the retail version of the game versus the modded version, which would make it a fair comparison.

So to say that the Xbox or PS3 isn't capable of running it, is not correct at all. You're just replacing files. If the 360 and PS3 have original files, on the PC you overwrite those files with their "updated" files... No other enhancements needed.

The recording software though, when running on the PC, WITH the PC game playing, will cause your Computer to Lag. Because you're tying up your resources playing the game AND recording. If you're recording 360 footage, the 360 shares some of that "task" by playing the game, so the PC only has to do the recording of the game.

A Hypothetical situation, IF we were able to load up FRAPS on the xbox 360, and record directly from the 360, while playing on the 360, it would be just as jumpy/jittery as the PC video. BECAUSE, it's performing both tasks. So it's not his fault on the quality of the video.

Mods' can be as simple as replacing/changing a color through hex-editing, or importing new headshapes/models. To say whether or not a system is capable of it, that depends on the mod at hand.

I'll take my PC with TNT overlays, fixed faces, fixed colors, any day over the 360/PS3 counterpart.
Thanks Will an intelligent post! I see from a gentlemen with a gaming PC you understand too how bad FRAPS eats up cpu usage and memory.

The comparison is useless for many reasons.

It's comparing two different systems and this question can be asked for any game that hits PC. Why can't there be more details? The question is obvious enough and has been answered throughout the thread.

All this extra shine, extra detail takes extra textures. I assume it is obvious the 360 or PS3 has limitations with this. Take all these mods and play it on an average PC and the game will be unplayable.

I just don't get it. I just don't get how a true gamer can say 2K is going overboard with gameplay and need to focus a higher res. shoe or jersey.

I see the point of it all went over your head as well....

It's about the details as far as correct colors, logo placement and so forth. Nothing that is considered an extra texture that will effect gameplay...

As far as the sentence I put in bold statements, I complimented them on the gameplay achievements and said these same efforts should be placed into the art of authenticity. Please don't overlook what I really said and try to re-word it into something negative.

We all know how talented these guys are and we know how great they could be...Just little tweaks here and there, even in their patches and updated NBA Today roster, color palettes could have been improved and they weren't...that's all I'm saying..

Added less Laggy version on bottom of page 1 to my company FB page, since Youtube compresses the videos to death.

Also turned off photomod to preserve frames and to remove the dark colors....

                  Look at Video 3.

As a reccommendation ...the next time you want to compare colors just do pictures

...and do it in the art thread thats started earlier in the year, not when the game is about to release

but as I said, ReubenDouglas (WallyHopp) did this stuff for years and never got an answer to it... what makes you think its going to be different here?

I don't know man, I just had it sitting on my chest to say something. So far all I've been getting is the 2k police and their defense and negativity.

I just wanted to share thoughts on improving Arenas and court details...

Oh well nice to see your alive...Be good!

I've always been impressed by the potential PC modding offers because I'm a guy who loves those details and the 2k PC community nails them down to a tee. I can't wait to see what's going to be done with 2k12, although I'm primarily a console gamer. Regardless, I think 2k12 on the 360/PS3 is 'closing the gap' so to speak with graphical improvements and attention to detail, but PC will always dominate graphically (for reasons mentioned in this thread).

Im not ripping you, i just think pics would"ve helped your argument better... or rather made the case for you moreso than a video

over the last week or so we talked about this already, then Reuben jumped in and mentioned how he gave it up a long time ago because it was a losing battle

I do think the colors are off man, but for whatever reason not being said... its not happening

bro if you're getting 92 fps without fraps but like 6 fps with fraps recording, there is a serious problem.

turn vsync on, and don't record at 60fps; set it at 29.97. turn lock framerate on. if it still lags, save the video file that's recording at a different drive/partition. seriously, fraps recording shouldn't drop fps by more than 10~15 max.

as for the mods ya i hate 2k default colorways lol playing with pink mj sucks.. a simple color edit fixes it i don't know why 2k uses that palette.

also, NONE of the mods add more textures, meshes, models etc etc so there is no performance loss. photomod is just enb no additional textures or whatnot. so i dont get the "console limitation" point. seems like a super simple fix to update their hex color code for specific teams. takes 30 sec with REDitor.

It's drops to around 54 to 57, if you look at the 3rd video you'll see I made changes...it's never at 6fps that is just ridiculous to even assume that..smh...

I will try the lock framerate and see how that works..

Also the part I bold in your comment is 100% correct and thanks for pointing that out...it just takes 30 seconds...

haha sorry if i offended i was just kidding

your second version vid looks better, but it's still much slower than real-time, and not representative of the 57 fps you're getting. i wonder what's wrong.

personally i'm not a fan of any photomods, i think they exaggerate and oversaturate the colors a la a cartoon :o is that uar photomod?

well anyway, if 2k rolls out pink jerseys and shoes again, i guess we'll have to edit the colorways manually again... sigh
