Aslong as the players play like they would in real life, I do not care what 2K rates them. Kobe Bryant is rated 94 overall and you are worried about the 78 Mid Range shot? In earlier months of NBA 2K11, before Travis Outlaw degressed - I was able to hit mid range buckets with him consistently, and he sure as hell did not have a 90 mid range shot rating. Kobe Bryant who has 78 mid range and probably 99 consistently, I do not see him missing either.

Re: NBA 2K12 Player Ratings Revealed, Including All Free Agents
Many use 2ks default ratings as a excuse to go against people who use stats for attributes calculations ... then again, who says they do ? ... hehe ... at least not going with the examples beeing thrown out here, none of them make sense at all from an statistic perspective ... Ibaka & Zbo one is blasphemy, with the exception being the Kobe example, that partially does.
Again, as soon as we let our biased eyes (or anyone eyes) lead attribute ratings assigments, the results will be as bad (if not worse) than those of the 2kinsider.
Sadly, we cannot account for things this game doesnt have the means to.Comment

is it just me or does the whole shot consistancy arguement sounds very very illogical...sounds backwards 2 me. I know its there for hot streaks and slumps and what not, but something just seems off to me. i mean how can a player have a 90+ mid range shot and a 50% consistancy...how is it possible to get a rating that high w/o being consistant? shouldnt the 2 go hand n hand? why not just lower his mid range shot? 4tr, its not that i dont get it, im just saying it seems like someone tried to be clever and out-thought themselves.
really glad to see some of the post bringing to light that stats cannot reflect everything, esp as more and more time passes from the actual exp.
2k should find 1 of the community members that ppl trust their ratings work and add them to the pay roll, because aside from the actual player ratings, the player tendencies are usually really questionable as well. so the same way they bring in a community member like 'Czar to give imput on gameplay and whatever else other ways he contributes, they should bring in some1 from the community to do all the player and coaching ratings.
to me, its like why put so much effort into getting all the little details right, only to have questionable player and coaching ratings....this really is such an easy fix; just hire a community professional to do the ratings from now on. very few ppl co-sign the work of the 2k Insider anyway.Through Holy Union God Lives Inside For Everyone

Evryone has seen his 38% we got it. People defend Kobe way different then anybody in the league, so 38% is not bad for Kobe at all. Lebron people will settle for his midrange jumper so he shoots better. Somebody tell me right now kobe's midrange isnt top 10 in the league easily. I dont know how you think he scores 25 ppg? Are you serious on here?Comment

dont know if the quote will work...
whether they bring him in as employee or advisor, he should be somehow compensated 4 his services tho. that could be his only job or involvement at 2k, getting the ratings and tendencies right. now i dont know how much that job would pay or what perks it would involve but it should come with equiped w/ something.
if the person takes their craft seriously thats alot of research and work..Through Holy Union God Lives Inside For Everyone

Re: NBA 2K12 Player Ratings Revealed, Including All Free Agents
There are subjective situations with stats, but you guys are fans and watch basketball just like I do. We know exactly how Kobe's season went it only ended a few months back...38% is 38%, regardless of shot selection, injury, defensive attention, etc. How can you say what his rating "should" be, when we have no remote idea how they calculated these in the first place? Or even understand exactly how the ratings work? Everyone else's ratings follow the same formulas and rules, why should there be an exception? "Kobe's not a 78 period." Well he apparently isn't higher than 78 either.Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Player Ratings Revealed, Including All Free Agents
The amount of excuses given to Kobe's midrange rating is disgusting. Kobe couldn't cosign the excuses given in this thread. Do you guys really think Kobe is one of the few guys in the league that is defended well from 16-23 feet? The defense being played has caused him to shoot 38%? This is one of the top players in the world and yall are saying the defense is the cause of his poor shooting? Too much credit is being given to the defense. What about from 10-15 ft when he shot great. Are yall saying he is now open from that range and that is the only reason why he shot good from that range? That makes no sense and all I can say is stop making excuses.Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Player Ratings Revealed, Including All Free Agents
The problem with that is: it's their OPINIONS. That's why I can't buy what you're selling. You're giving opinions. 1st your own, now others' as basis for your argument. I'm giving you cold hard facts. Not what I thought happened last year, not explanations about last year, but what actually got recorded in the history books last year. Official Record.Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Player Ratings Revealed, Including All Free Agents
A poll would only show perception and popularity. So he might be top ten in a poll as a poll is a think/feel/perceive type of system. However after the people look at the numbers from real life the truth sets in that he is not great from mid range. A poll is opinion stats line up with the truth, excuses are given afterwards why the polls don't match the statsComment

Re: NBA 2K12 Player Ratings Revealed, Including All Free Agents
So let me get this straight .
Amare has a career year and goes from 90 off to 85 off ?
and
Melo goes from 98 off and 87 def
to .................
90 off and 73 def ?
really ??
thats a huge difference !
I thought Melo was pretty good in NY .
Or do players that go to the knicks get downgraded because they play for Mike D ?

Re: NBA 2K12 Player Ratings Revealed, Including All Free Agents
What I can't wrap my head around is the fact that people who haven't seen the game in play take one stat out of the blue and base their whole opinion on it.
Let's remove names for an example:
Player A has Mid Range at 78, Player B has Mid Range at 95; which one do you choose?
Now, same example, but some more stats: Player A also has Shot on the run, Shot in traffic, and Consistency at 90, while Player B has the same stats at 50; now which do you choose?
Same thing with overall ratings: people will compare players just based on those, letting their opinion skew the reality. Overall is what it says on the box, it takes everything into consideration. So the most athletic guy with the best dunking skills might be a fan favourite and a highlight waiting to happen, but if he can't shoot from range and can't defend, the guy who's average in those three categories will have a higher rating. It seems so simple to grasp that I can't understand why there is so much fuss on the stats.
The other thing to keep in mind: stats don't mean jack! If you want the game to play realistically and to be able to do that, you need to give a player lower stats than would seem normal for him, just do it. What do you prefer: to see Kobe IG play like Kobe IRL on the floor or see Kobe IG have the stats that feel right, but play completely differently than IRL? Get a grip!Comment
