OMG this game is so frustrating!! it is soooooooo horrible!!! i have started 5-6 new MP's cause i get so frustrated everytime!

1: the team grade: how come when you do something bad it falls so incredibly much, but when you do something good it just raises a little bit? you do 3-4 good things, and get the grade up, then just one little negative thing like "allowed inside pass" or "bad block attempt" and you pretty much go down an entire grade.

2: it is soo hard to get assists, teammates never shoot! they just stand there like idiots and then when the shotclock is down to 2-3 seconds they pass the ball back to me so i have to take a horrible shot or I get the damn turnover! plus the alley oops are awful. a million times i have had a perfect alley oop, but i dont get the assist, my grade goes down because of a "bad pass" wtf!??!!? and how many times have i tried to pass to an open man but by the time i press the pass button, he has ran behind 2-3 guys and i pass the ball directly to them..

3: the animations are awful. you get stuck in some stupid animations cause your teammate won't move so you can cover an open guy, and of course he hits the shot.. then you get pushed around by everybody, once i could not move cause nate robinson was pushing me around?! what the hell?! the guy is 3" tall..

4: no matter what team you play with your teammates will suck.. it doesn't matter if its lebron james or freakin' kwame brown.. on the other hand your opponents are all freakin' michael jordans.. they make every damn shot and do incredible things on the floor.. while my teammates don't even dare take a shot.. not even when they're totally open. to win a game you have to have 40 ppg or 20 assists..

5: i miss sooooo many wide open shots, its unbelieveable..

6: the latest Mp i started is a pg, got drafted by the sixers. and it is sooooo annoying.. we run no plays.. whenever i play i play sg, only a few times has the coach let me be pg. and this is how we play: jrue holiday gets the ball, runs to in between halfcourt and 3-point line and just stands there till its 4-5 seconds left on the shotclock and takes a 50 yard shot.. what the hell 2k?!?!?! it doesnt help to set up a screen for him or call for the pass, NOTHING!! and he does this on 9/10 possesions!!! if he passes then he does so to iggy, and then he does the same thing! just stands in one place till the clock runs down and takes a forced shot!

7: i pass a normal pass to a teammate, he fumbles the ball out of bounds and i get the turnover?? woow 2k.. you really nailed this game..

and one more thing i noticed someone mention earlier: the endorsments, where is the cash from them? i mean in reality players get paid for their endorsments, where is the money for the MP?? especially when you get the shoe-deal.. players make millions from those deals, what we do it for free? jordan gets all the money?? i would assume 2k knows that players dont only get money from their nba-contracts but also from their endorsements, so why didn't they include this in the game?

you know the dynamic goals, and the one called "quadruple quarter" or something like that, where you must record 1 assist, one 1basket, 1 steal or block and 1 rebound.. the hardest thing there is the damn assist.

2k11 was seriously 1000000 times better, because you could actually play basketball... this MP-version is the worst of its kind in sportsgame history.. but i guess thats what happens when you have no competition, and you are the only producer of a basketball game in the business since ea hasn't done it for a while now. 2ksports dont give a damn what the game is like, they know nba-fans and basketball lovers will buy the game cause its the only one avaliable..

2k13 really needs to improve, especially the MP mode, cause this version sucks!

and here is the craziest thing of all: i had the game on my pc also just to try it with cheats, so installed it and startet an mp as a pg, got drafted by the bobcats, used cheat engine to raise everything to max, so was 99 overall. averaged over 30ppg and around 6 rpg and 8-9 apg. my rookie year, was second in mvp behind lebron. bobcats finished 2nd seed, we lost to the bulls in the eastern finals. got tired of the bobcats my 2nd year so still with my rookie contract i asked to be traded to the knicks, since i'm a knick fan and i wanted to play with melo, stat & chandler. but guess what? this was the trade: Knicks get MP - Bobcats get Melo & Stat.. how is that even possible? i was on my rookie contract, that was like 1,34 millions in two years, and i get traded for melo and stat? what kinda contracts did they have then?! it's impossible!!

seriously! what was 2k thinking with this game??
I play on ps3 as well and all I can say is...you aren't doing it right or something..I think I can safely disagree with every one of your points...

U mad bro? U mad bro.

In all seriousness though, a lot of people are having a lot of these issues. I'd say give it time, but these things won't be fixed. So you're only real options are to deal, or don't play. As far as #1 goes, if you improve, you won't have an issue with teammate grade. I routinely get B+ - A+ grade. Just gotta play smarter, and that's on you, bud.

Again I failed to out-smart the AI. I fired up my SG/Pacers, OVR: 66, 10 games completed.

I wanted to see if I could delay the Starter role and stay as a 6th man further into the season. I decided not to apply ANY skill points to him and just save them thru game 20 and see what happens.

I played normal, averaging around 8pts on 50% FG, an assist, steal and receiving B- grades -- do to my inability to follow defensive switches with my poor On Ball Defense.

We earned 8200+ skill points and after triggering the "Rookie" Sprite Spark Award for my play off the bench (14pts, 4 rebs, 3 assists and 2 Steals), I was moved to STARTER after just 13 games!

My team has been losing so much lately and I'm turning the ball over like crazy. 2 games ago I got a triple double along with 30 points and this last game I got 31 points in a super frustrating loss. What's funny is I made a shot with the contested shot animation where my guy threw it up with his left hand xD I should have saved it as a replay but whatever. It's funny because I'll miss the most open shots and make the most ridiculous ones.

For this, it helps to know how to play the game, and execute different dribble and shot moves. Learn how to take good shots (Good Shot Selection) and being able to pass the ball (Assist--which seems to be an issue of yours I will address) and Rebounding (Defensive Rebound)(Offensive Rebound) will give your team-mate grade big boosts. Other things like Drawing and-1s and scoring on a dunk are all ways to quickly boost your team-mate grade. Just play the game well and right.

It may be easier for me, because my player has 90+ Inside, Close, Mid, 3PT, Layup attributes, but raising your attributes will help. Start with the shooting and offense, and than move to the Mental and Physical and Defensive.

            2. Assists: I'd recommend turning plays on. I do this--on the My Player Home, click Back, and the menu will appear--click Settings or something like that, and turn the 'Run Plays' to 'On' and 'Full' or 'Lite'.

Once you know your team-mates strengths, and their spots, and you know the main plays well--it will be easier to get assists. Otherwise, remember to look at all 4 other players on the court while you are playing--look for open shooters, cutters, and big men inside for easy lay-ins and dunks. Playing like this, I'm a PG in Knicks in my second season, and I'm currently averaging 20 PPG/6 RPG and 13 APG. No need to cheese--just try and follow what I told you. Also look for guys in transition, and try to push the ball up in transition or on fast breaks.

            3. Animations: I agree with you that the animations can be brutal at times, especially the defensive switches, which cause you to lose team-mate grade. Go to Settings, and turn the option for "Show Who to Guard" 'On'. That's the only way to try and minimize that. The bumping animations, I hate, just like you. Getting Offensive Awareness, Agility, Speed and Strength are the only ways to try and reduce that. Nothing we can do there to stop it, unfortunately.

            4. I had the same problem on my first MP. Our team started 2-17, and I just created a new one, and another one...4 MPs after my first, I'm an All-Star, All-NBA, on a No. 1 seeded team in the East.

Just spend time to 'learn' the different dribble/post moves. Learning the post moves especially, can be rewarding if you know how to use your MP down low. Learning how to impact the game, other than scoring will prove useful...I'd recommend watching some NBA 2K12 MP videos (Smoove, ipodkingcarter). I started with these when I bought the game, and I'm thriving now. Just know how to play properly, well, and execute. Use Training Camp to learn. Pick up a "Signature Move".

*Run plays...the offense comes better and will make you and your team-mates all better.

            5. Get a better shot base/form. Go to NBA 2K Rosters>NBA 2K12 sig shots on this forum. A good one to start is Gibert Arenas.

            6. Run plays.

            7. It sort of is on you...to throw a better, more clean pass. Just raise your Pass Attribute. This will be important when running plays, and trying to get assists.

*That's a good point you bring with the endorsements, and I've never though of that before. Good one!

For "Quadruple Single" and getting the assists, look at my points above about your issues. Number 2 or 3 is about getting assists.

Hope this helped you! I used to be in the same predicament as you, but just learning how to control the offensive/post moves, learnring how to run plays for different team-mates, finding the open man, pushing it in transition and raising the right attributes...you will eventually get very good at this game. Any questions just ask me.

sorry for the long post, was just furious atm i wrote it. and i'm not saying i get bad team mate grades, i'm just sayin' it falls a lot easier and much more when you make a mistake than it goes up when you do something right.

the assists and running plays though are pretty tough on this mp, since as mentioned jrue holiday plays pg and i'm allways sg, so when we get the ball he just runs up to between the 3-point line and halfcourt and stands there till the clocks down to 3 seconds than takes a horrible shot. anyone else having that problem? or is it just with the sixers?

Do you have Run Plays On?

The reason the player stands still is the play has broken down. This revolves around Teammate Chemistry (Menu-My Career - My Buzz) and your ability to complete your assignment on Offense.

This is the HARDEST thing to get used to in the game when playing other than PG. Your Offensive Awareness will limit the "bumping" overtime if you keep raising it to (85). Raising your Strength will help you push off.

Once engaged; hit your L2 button and push the right analog in the direction away from the defender to free yourself. The longer you play and learn your assignments you will find short cuts to elude the defender.

Try not to Turbo (R2) when engaged this will just frustrate you, just keeping the L2 and try to move into the direction of your assignment.

Okay, you did all that and now you know time is running out on the Shot Clock and you have to set a Pick for them to move; just hit the "O" button repeatedly until it removes the Play Art. But still try to help the player that's trying to get the pick by setting it again as he starts to move.

***GO TO THE MAIN MENU OF THE GAME
Game Modes --Go to Practice --Plays --- Select the Team that your player plays and Launch the practice session

This is the best way to learn the plays as there are NO DEFENDERS. You can turn the plays ON AUTO using the Select Button this will allow you to watch the entire play. Run them over and over again for your Primary and Secondary position so you have an good idea of what your assignments are!

I'm in my 7th season with my 3pt SG rate 99. On ps3 too.

                  1. I repeataly got "bad call for pass," "allowed inside pass" or "bad steal attempt" I simply ignore most of them and using other ways to boost my teammate grade. I'm not sure how the game decide I got "bad steal attempt" but I got a ton of successful steals even if i also got "bad steal attempt" at the same time. Allowed inside pass and allow man to score are huge and I didn't mark my man well enough too (mark your man efficeintly will help to reduce those) but i still get A+ almost everytime i play by using other ways to boost the grade. (I will fail to do so when I got foul troubles and i didn't be in the court long enough)

I got most of my team grade from "fast break score," "good shot selection," "post move" "steal" and etc. Try to find your deadly weapons in the game. Mine is post turn-around fadeaway which will give you "good shot selection" and "post move score" at the same time. (Up fadeaway and post fadeaway to great and have 99 mid shot in order to do this efficiently) I have a problem with boosting my team grade too but when my rating is high enough, the problem is gone.

When your matchup hold the ball far from the basket, call the big man (not a guard since u may be punished by long-range shoot) to double team with you. Force CPU to the corner and double team them when u have a chance. Double team ur match up, if somehow u match up make a pass to the open man and he scores, u will not get punish. (If u didn't care about the scoreboard at that time, says ur team are on a very huge lead) On the other hand, if u double team ur teammate's match up and make ur match up scores, u will be punished by teammte grade. This is easy way to build a team grade.

                  2. Only some teammates don't shoot. I have played with Nash, Rose and Lebron throughout my career. Rose always ignore open jump shot which pissed me off. This is due to his tendencies.

I never call a play (since I'm a SG/SF and only occasionally play at PG ) and I didn't turn the play on but I still average 8.1 apg last season and currently average 9.1 apg about 60 games this season. Having Lebron on the team help a lot. I recommend u to learn ur teammate's strength the length of their shoot and tendencies.

One thing I learn is if you can feed the ball to your teammates in the paint, they will shoot most of the time. Therefore, try to feed them the ball at the right time by passing in the paint when they r not post up. (If ur teammate does post up, even if u feed him the ball, it is likely that ur teammate will do some movements before shoot and will ruin the chance to get assist) Passing to the paint rish for turnover but high chance to get assists too.

My team didn't have a legit PG now so when running the fastbreak, if I didn't get the ball by stealing or rebounding myself I will call for the ball and exwcute the fast break.

I rarely try to alley-opp, too risky for turnover. Also, I use icon-pass most of the time.

Make flashy pass: high risk for turnover but high chance to get assists.

I also get 3.4 turnover per game right now. I think my career hi is 22 assists but I aslo get 9 turnovers in the same game.

                  3. I agree. However, I just ignore them and use other things to compensate.

                  4. I feel that at the beginning. However, when u play a game long enough and know what and when u should do and what and when u shouldn't, it will help. In my opinion, different teammate does matter. I have a generated Center who barely hit anything (below 30% FG) and I hate him. Rose has high ratings but he has low tendency to shoot from parameter so he simply ignore to do that which will hurt your play. Lebron and Nash are great if u know how to play with them, when to pass to them, what u should do when they hold the ball.

                  5. Practice release, boost ur shoot rating and consistency. Learn when u should shoot and when u shouldn't.

                  6. Didn't play PG so someone here may provide better ansers.

                  7. My MP has 83 passing ratings (maxed out and already bought +3 cap) Still did a lot of turnovers too but I guess for PG with +90 passing, that should make pass a lot better.

I'm really bad and struggle at the beginning but when ur ratings are high enough, the game will be a lot easier. I play on "pro" or "all-star" only. On higher difficulties, I still be able to score at will (50+ if I want) but since CPU hit almost everything, my team will lost so I will struck with just "pro" or "all-star" for now.

I agree that endorsements should bring money. The game should generate new endorsement rather than pulling them from the stock since when they r run out, no more endorsement. I stop receiving any new endorsements after my 3rd season. I don't mind if I am on a cover of NBA 2k16 or something, maybe the same magazines, billboards but with diffent issues and diffent pics of mine.

"quadruple" objective: I have more trouble with rebounds since my teammate r full of player with high rebound rating and I seems to jump on bad-timing too.

                    PART TWO
Getting Bad Grades is frustrating in the begining primarily because as a Rookie you have Poor Defensive abilities and the AI is exploiting it to the MAX!

Defensive Awareness makes you smarter on the court, your player will quickly recognize defensive switches and move THRU PICKS to your assignment faster! It also puts you in much better position to Block shots and steal the ball.

This will keep you from yelling "that's not my man"!

On Ball Defense is vital if you are guarding a perimeter player (PG/SG/SF), this skill allows you to better STAY IN FRONT of your matchup when he tries to drive. Again, it also puts you in much better position to Block shots and steal the ball.

Low Post Defense is vital if you are guarding a LOW POST player (PF/CEN), this skill allows you to better defend when you matchup "posts up" on you in the low block. However, all position players will post up on you regardless of the position you play sooner or later.

                      1. I am no longer SHOT CLOCK PARANOID and have slowed the pace (his movement) with my PG/Knicks and my turnovers dropped dramatically. I am getting 10-12 assists per game now just running the offense properly.

I guess I was trying too hard in his Rookie season. I have duplicated this style with my rookie SG and it has done wonders for my Shot Selection and Assists.

                      2. Nothing like having a HIGH Shoot in Traffic to help with those ill advised shots!

On another note, I cannot wait to add some Abilities to my Athletic PG/Knicks; ..... just for a break I played the All-Star game on Quick Match, and got my hands on Derrick Rose and Rondo....oh I am going to be a beast after my Soph season!

Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread

I've come to the realization that pretty much every other game, the computer "decides" that my team is going to shoot around 30% from the floor. I just played a game where we couldn't miss (still almost lost). Now in the next game, we're shooting 27% against the Bobcats and I've missed 5 consecutive shots where I got the "good shot selection" bonus. (All med range jumpers and im rated 80 in med jumper and 80 in shot in traffic -- even though they were wide open).

This is beyond frustrating. And honestly, it just isn't fun. It reminds me of the old madden days where the computer had built in catch up mode.

boltman, threlo thanks for the advice on my Pacers Bulls trade predicament. My MP is staying put.

ratings are still in the 80s in most places and sagging in the 50s and 60s in others. (still can't dunk) and even though consistency is at 85 my MP is hot and cold like a mother. he just stops hitting. I have no dribble moves so I'm heavily invested in the jumpshot and I wish it would drop more often (shooting 43% through 25 games). Lost two tough games to heat and thunder where MP just couldn't produce. Got like 500sp on a key game.

This game is so addictive! So many great kernels of wisdom dropped today in this thread!

Do you guys play all games or just key games?

i'm a pg for the sixers, but play almost only sg and from what i have understood key games are marked different in the schedule than other games right? well the only key games with the sixers are against the knicks and the celtics. so i'd play 8 games in my rookie season if i'd only play key games. and it makes it very tough to wait with completing milestones to key games since it doubles the SP.

                            any advice?

My team is awful. It doesn't matter who I play for, they're awful. I was with the Sixers and we were getting blown out every game. Shooting 30-35% from the floor (I shoot about 40%).

I get traded to the Bulls, and my team hits maybe 10% of their attempts around the rim. We just finished a game vs the Sixers, got blown out by 20. They shot 50%, we shot 33% going 1 for 18 from 3 point line. Yes, 1 for 18. Miraculously, all the guys who were missing shots when I was on their team, were nailing em vs my new team. Fall away jumpers, crazy and ones, everything.

Is there some kind of setting (I play on Pro) that can make my team better? I mean, I'm doing all I can, but if I dish the ball to a guy and he misses a layup 9/10 times or we go 1/18 from 3, thats nothing that I personally can do to change it.

Please help, because it's really no fun getting blown out by a team who's record is 8-22.
It sounds like you are having a Teammate Chemistry problem. W/O sounding judgmental; asking for a Trade lowers Team Chemistry by 40 points through the transaction. Check your Buzz. (I have asked for trades on a few occasions, LOL)

                              OR

If you are playing on Pro/Default, its arcade mode (50/50), so they will always stay close! I made this mistake with my first player! You want your Game Mode Settings to be : Pro/Simulation

Now if this is the case, I hate to say it but you may want to start over. The gameplay is alot different and you may want a fresh start to get used to it.

                              Back to Teammate Chemistry...

Do you have the Plays On?

Having the plays on really helps the Teammate Chemistry. Now there are very skilled players here that know how to manually run plays, but, its difficult for average players like me to manuever my controller and watch the screen at the same time!

If you are running plays; make sure you are always completing your assignment. Try not to make turnovers or take bad shots when the other team makes their run. Attempt your BEST shot to clear your team's shooting slump and always play tough defense when the other team starts a run, even if this mean's HACKING (foul) someone!
