Yup this is pretty much it. When this insight first came out, I payed special attention to it. Because I knew it would be crucial in being successful in the game.

I played a few heat users online and using the LT+RT fast shuffle is helpful when i'm just a step behind LeBron or Wade.

If all else fails you can always go into Controller Settings and turn Defensive Assist up to whatever you feel comfortable at.
        Lineup:
        PG) Gary Payton
        SG) '95-'96 Michael Jordan
        SF) Sapphire Scottie Pippen
        PF) '95-'96 Dennis Rodman
        C) Hakeem Olajuwon

Also, some food for further thought ... they redid almost all facets of the game, some may come easier, others will take time ... past success does not guarantees or ease the learning curve of new things ... put patience, time and effort and you shall be rewarded.

Mostly due to me editing a lot instead of just playing (thus I have always been kind of unskilled at sticks), it took me almost the entire 2k11 cycle to master the D to the point that I could dominate "at times". Not saying that it will take you all that much to be consistent or in the domination range, but that it will take you an X amount of time that may very well not be just "a couple of days".

The move with the right stick in 2k11 has now been transfered to the triggers. If you hold LT and RT and just flick the left stick in a direction it will do that quick jump, while if you hold it he will move sideways at great speed. hope this helps. While just holding LT you can move step by step.

Also with anyone having problems on D, just turn defense assist strength to 100 and when you hold LT it should keep up with your man with onl minor adjustments.

The problem I am having is not a cause of scheme, matchup, or giving a guy too much space or too little space.

Thanks for the link I'll take a look at it right now.

Btw I get that it's gonna take some time to understand a new game just want to at least know the buttons to do certain things if I can perform them in the game or not idc for now.
              Thanks everyone.

Also does defensive assist affect online cause if it does that seems a bit cheap doesn't it?

I personally can't stand the 2K cam, but I can admit that it's much easier to play defense with it on. You can judge angles and space far easier than broadcast. I've found the new Beluba cam to be a great compromise for those who like broadcast but want a better view of judging your angles so you're not so out of position on defense.

If you want on ball defense more like 2k11, try turning defensive assist up....really feels more like last year...

I dont use it personally, but check it out

                    Re: Defense

Its simple, once you feel like your gonna get beat switch off ASAP and let the CPU bump the ball handler or you bring help..

Or play a 1-3-1 and control the wing player opposite ball side to get alot of deflections..if the wing player is athletic (Paul George) you can get alot of easy blocks and rebounds.

Lastly if you just flat out suck on D try starting with man to man and switching to a 1-3-1 mid possession to shut down lead passers and slashers for power dunks..it stop the drive pretty well..BUT BEWARE FOR THE CORNER 3

I shut down a D Rose abuser LeBron and wade using this..

If you run into a ISO motion abuser just use your on the fly D and select pressure all shoothers..play on the off wing and wait to help or play on the PF

This game can be difficult to stop certain players but its very easy as well...just use ur brain

Does this affect online play? Cause now I'm a little worried that I've never used it but how do i know my opponent didn't?

Try using the LT + Right Stick toward the ball holder.
You can press up and deny the player. Be mindful of your positioning.

Does defensive assist apply to online games or is it just for offline?

I find myself with a love hate relationship with defense right now. At times, it play absolutely perfect, and at others, it feels like I may as well not be on the court.

I have a feeling this is more a ratings/sliders problem than a game play problem though. The ability of the CPU to hit from deep is just too much.

If you want you can turn on/up the CPU assist and they will help you out a lil bit too. Located in the contoller settings area.
