See, I don't find the CPU on HOF to be unpredictable, really. They have all the same tendencies, good or bad, but their success rate on everything increases exponentially. I don't overthink it anymore, I just do artificial crap to hack them back. Change your defensive set a couple times (to anything, it doesn't really matter). Call a couple of timeouts in a row. It helps reset them for a little bit.

Re: Please DON'T turn down gameplay intensity this year
I copied my post from the Impressions thread, since I felt it also applied here. I'm telling you, the competition against the CPU is off the charts this year, and I love it. I've only made 2 adjustments to the sliders from All-Star/Simulation and I'm having an absolute blast. I really hope 2K doesn't nerf down the difficulty because I am enjoying playing TEAM basketball, having to really pay attention to calling timeouts and adjusting strategy, and being on point offensively.
Here's the post from the impressions thread:
Wow.
I just had an AMAZING game, playing in Greatest Mode. The 1971-72 Lakers rallied from a 12-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat the ultra-tough New York Knicks, 83-76. I outscored NY 29-10 in the 4th as Wilt just took over and Mr. Clutch hit several mid-range jumpers. Defense! My guys were all over the floor, forcing turnovers, blocking shots and closing out on jumpers. NY couldn't get anything going, and it felt so rewarding as I played sound, team defense.
This was on All-Star/Simulation with Quickness lowered to 5 and Clutch to 10.
The CPU is no joke, but they can be had if you play basketball, not videogames.Currently Playing:

Re: Please DON'T turn down gameplay intensity this year
I've been playing the game now for 4 days and it's getting better and better.
It really saddens me to see all those unfounded complaints that in the end will probably be heard.
"I'm losing the ball too much when dribbling!" Err, you might want to remove your finger from the turbo button from time to time.
"CP3 is the greatest but in the game he somehow can't pass the ball through 5 defenders!" Err ... yes?
"I can't beat the defender with ISO!" Well this year you have to read the defence before going one way or another.
Etc, Etc. I'm not saying the game has no problems but the gameplay against the CPU is GORGEOUS (once you drop 3pt and mid by 3 points). Hopefully it stays this way. I have never enjoyed a sports game this much in my life. It's fantastic.“If you meet the Buddha in the lane, feed him the ball.”-Phil Jackson
“I never thought I’d lead the NBA in rebounding, but I got a lot of help from my team-mates – they did a lot of missing.”-Moses MaloneComment

Also I've used different methods, but some guys are having success changing the switch on screens to defend open 3's.
Im having enough success without doing that because I like playing more on ball defense, but its sad that some wont even try that beacause they want it to be easier for them... smhComment

I'm enjoying the intensity and competition as well. Sliders aren't "band-aids" to problems. They're options for customization. We all see and play the game differently. Sliders are there to make sure we can change things we don't like. It's very hard to expect the 2ksports team to design a game that plays equally fair and challenging in the eyes of 5 million different people, but they do a dang good job. That's half of the reason so many people get upset when a patch drops, because they can only listen to the people who are talking.
I'm still struggling in this game but until I feel like I'm playing flawless basketball, I refuse to blame the CPU for cheating.[NYK|DAL|VT]

Say i set the defenisve settings to "focus on the stars" . If you then pause you will see how it automatically sets your defnsive settings which is to in most situations double team the players with the star icons..Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesnt. There are definitely issues with this working as i've tried all of them throuroughly.
I've set it several times to lock down the paint in which thats sets it to everyone that drives should be contested. I had Wilt at my center at one point (who is a great defender and rebounder) and they get points inside and rebounds constantly . Not to mention on my coach profile i had rebounds maxed
Maybe its HOF level that this doesnt work i dont know i ahvent played any other level excpet in the greatest mode.SLIDERS SUCKComment

Re: Please DON'T turn down gameplay intensity this year
Lock down the paint also does other things, not just double... It will make the defender front the man trying to post up... I dont think there is just only one static way to defend, that might be the problem some are having...
I know that im having tons of success on alot, not all but alot of possessions in different waysComment

Re: Please dont turn down gameplay intensity this year
I agree PP
I know I was on pro but I just gave the Clippers the beatdown of their lives just by playing great defense... it was one of those nights for them where nothing went right as a result
It felt great! Im learning more things on defense, who and who not to pressure to tight, when and when not to switch on defense...when to help D...double in the paint... oh man its greatComment

Re: Please DON'T turn down gameplay intensity this year
Exactly. Problem is some people are so hell bent on defending anything and everything about this game that they will say ANY flaws or problems(like players leaving their man open for no reason, passing being extremely slow, and ai having eyes in the back of their head) are just a result of people not understanding or just not being good enough. They often try to say things like "this is how real basketball is played". Because obviously NBA players will always just randomly leave their man wide open for no reason at all. And NBA players obviously have to throw slow overhead passes a lot even when they're right by each other.Comment

The thing is, every game in 2k12 is like a chess match. You need to constantly adjust to what the offense is trying to do. Most of the people here are not that good in doing that and I am one of those people but its quite fun lol.Comment

THIS!!!...You can't attack every team the same way. Every team has different strengths and weakness. I have literally played the Heat at least 5 times, losing every time. I was turning the ball over left and right, until really focused in and attacked them smartly. Lebron and Wade are hounds on the perimeter, so passing had to be careful, to limit there fast break opportunities. Slowing the game down, and attacking them inside, finally held them off. Not saying this will always work when I play them, but it added the cool element of me not resulting to "Oh this game sucks cause every time I do this, it doesn't work" or the "AI cheats". No, I did a self check, and revamped my game. The filling of strategically beating the AI, was more rewarding then anything.Comment
