Re: Please dont turn down gameplay intensity this year

I think everybody who says they love what Czar and his "sim nation" ideals are all about need to speak up about this because if you don't the cheap players will

Didn't like it one bit last year and I dont want it to happen this year, because someone complaining about defense and fouling the cpu from either spamming the steal button or block button just need to adjust and use some strategy.

I think we can all agree we dont need mindless gameplay plaguing our sports games

BTW, how many of you guys walk the ball upcourt sometimes now instead of running it up everytime to jack up a quick shot?

Re: Please dont turn down gameplay intensity this year

Take this from someone whos been playing a little longer and have gotten use to the game now. Im usually up by 10-20points on allstar sim. The up and under moves are nothing once you get use to it. The post defense works really well once you get use to it. The iso moves become useful, and dont forget your shot gathers play a huge part.

      Tips that might help
If your on offense and you have a pick coming from the left, and there isnt a clear lane but a good look coming off the pick use L2/LT and Rstick(to the left)

Use L2/LT and R2/RT when covering on defense. But only when you need it. You can stop players from running around you easily.

Do not fall for shot fakes.

Play inside out if you have good shooters. Theres always someone on the weak side ready to shoot or in position to make a play.

Use Shot gathers in the post when you have mismatches. Dwight Howard shot gather animations are a beast downlow. (L2/LT+Rstick)

Branch your shot gathers into crossovers with good ball handlers on perimeter. Easily get your defender off his feet or out of position.

Theres plenty more I cant think of right now.

Things that need to be fixed/patched that shouldnt mess with core gameplay.
      1. 50 buzzer beaters a game from the cpu. Reward us for our defense.
      2. Low rated low offense players shouldnt consistently look like Hakeem Olajuwon.
      3. Fix the CPU offense, just like #1, CPU shouldnt be holding the ball until the last 3 seconds.
      4. Fix Users Fastbreaks.
      5. CP3 should be able to take any Big Man off the dribble.
      6. Fix the slippery feet on defense.

Thanks for making this post 23, people who love this game and loves the challenge definitely need to speak loud and often. As I was reading more and more in the impression thread my heart dropped. I do not want to lose what 2k has built.

The thing I love most about this year's game is the fact that I have to concentrate on defense just as much as I do on offense. And if you do concentrate and have a gameplan, the game rewards you. The learning curve and being rewarded is what makes 2k12 great.

          I 100% agree with you 23.

A lot of people play NBA 2K12 on HOF or Superstar and get their doors blown off then immediately say it's because the game sucks or because of bugs.

Here's an idea: Put the ego away and learn the game.

There's a new post system. There's a new defensive system. There's new, tougher AI.

If 2K changes the way this game plays, they're doing a HUGE disservice to NBA 2K12.

It's frustrating have your hands up defensively and then bam someone does an up under move and gets bailed out.
Bad tendency implentation from 2K, nothing new/unexpected. Game will be so much better when roster makes get hold of the tendencies. Chia, Nogster and Rashidi.

But for OP, expect gameplay to be secretly patched through a roster update. No matter what you think, little Johnny runs this world. There are more of his type of there. If he can't dunk at will, they are at risk of losing customers. So expect them to dumb the game down again.

Re: Please dont turn down gameplay intensity this year

I agree, a lot of it has to do with user, make the right adjustements and make the right basketball play...EVERY POSSESSION. But, one big problem is that you dont have sliders in my player, so its harder to find the right balance.

Quite honestly, at times the cpu just doesnt play by the same rules. I dont care what anyone says, my game was possessed last night. The Cavs and the Wiz went absolutely nuts on me. I just felt a step slower than the cpu, literally, I could c the game speeding up and my player couldnt keep up. I forced them into bad shots, they got the offensive rebound and got an and1, my wide open shots going in and out and big men were pretty much useless.

Losing becuase I made boneheaded plays or the cpu took advantage of my mistakes is basketball, I can live with that. But losing because of what seems like hidden boosts and the cpu doing things that we cant do is frustrating. You kinda feel helpless. Im sorry but at times the cpu doesnt play play basketball, it plays videogames.

With all of that being said, if I had to choose I would leave it the way it is. Users just have to learn how to play smart on every single possesion or else we will pay dearly. We are all going to learn the intricacies of this game and develop our own strategies so will catch up to the ai eventually, which will set up for some great battles.

Re: Please dont turn down gameplay intensity this year

Yeah it isn't a game problem, it is an ego problem. For some reason people automatically assume the hardest difficulty is the most "SIM". I see this in every sports game.

Instead of trying to learn the new controls, the 1st game right away they put the game on HOF or superstar. Then they whine and complain they can't use their cheese tactics anymore.

People this generation of console gaming got so use to exploiting the videogame animations and AI, they don't have a CLUE how the real sport is played.

So now that all the AI and animation exploits have been taken out of the game and you have to play REAL basketball, people are CLUELESS.

I love this game because now it is all about the Xs and Os. If you know strategy and how the real sport is played, you will do well in this game. But for those who always relied on their iso stick skills ONLY, they will suffer.

I hardly ever play like that, but this year it is imperative that you pick your spots and run your offense accordingly. I have wanted 2k to be competitive and not with cheap tactics like in 2k's past games. When I lose, I know I lost because the CPU outplayed me and made better decisions than I did. The CPU is ruthless and will take advantage of every mistake that you make. I have learned quickly that you can't jump every time you think they are going to shoot because A. they will cause a shooting foul or B. they will blow right past you and your defense will be out of sorts. This is why I put my hands up instead of jumping, especially when the shot clock is running down.

Again, what I love about 2k12 is the fact that you have to be strategic and think about what you will do on the fly. No more running down court, just jacking up ill advised shots and being rewarded for foolish play. You will lose if you play stupid, and quite frankly, I love that..lol.

I love how this game punishes you for not playing legit bball. You want to reach all day, and block all night you will get exposed. You have to execute a gameplan similar to what you see the NBA does and it varies from team to team to win at this. Freelance defense and offense against the CPU does not work consistently and you need to recognize mismatches. Everything I mean everything matters in this game. You have to know your playbook, players, controls. I have never said this before about a sports game before.. "I had some of the best losses ever" lol. I am only on allstar sim, can't even see myself switching to hall of fame

If i don't have a break opportunity off a turnover, or i'm using a half court team (like my Nets), I'm just about always slowing it down and walking the ball up. That little animation change seemed to make things look so much better.

And man, usng the Nets is gonna be rough for me this year. LOL I've only won one game so far on AS/Sim. But they're legit losses i'm not been cheated out of.

Every year they patch the game to make it easier for the casual user, and its a shame they do this. Every year the games release plays so challenging, but then they change it because people dont want to take the time to learn..

There are alot of tools in this years game and I would like to take the time to learn about them all, all of the things talked about in those insights on both offense and defense, and how much more life like the CPU plays, the challenge is how it needs to be, CHALLENGING!!

I feel like there is a window to learn some things on defense as well as how to stop certain teams. Played the Spurs twice with Denver...got whipped the 1st game because I couldn't stop Tony Parker's driving and Manu's craftiness... the 2nd time I put them in their place (just thought about the Grizzlies last year )

Point im making is, you can learn new things, about executing, how to be more effective, and overall strategy

Last year the game was changed somehow, and this year I am starkly against anyone asking for this game's intensity to be toned down just so they can 3pt and dunk their way to easy wins...

I think 2k did a great job and I just wont let it go down without a fight
Good post, Dre. I agree that the difficulty should be left alone. To me, the harder the game = more replay value. I don't want to fire up 2K12 and already be dominating. It should take me a while to master the controls, learn the plays, etc. before I feel I can really hold my own against the CPU.

Right now, I'm getting exactly what I want from the CPU in my games. I am getting lit up as I adjust to the new defensive controls, and also am adjusting to the slightly new controls for the post game and other offensive moves. I know the more I practice, the better I'll get and the better games I'll have against the CPU. Right now, if I can keep things close I am happy.

Having a good knowledge of basketball is the only thing keeping me afloat so far, and I love that. You really need to study your team's ratings/tendencies and then figure out how to properly run the plays and pay attention to the branches off those plays. The possibilties for scoring are endless if you know how to move the ball and exploit mismatches when they arise. Playing defense is a little tougher this year just because the players aren't as robotic as in past years, so the sliding that we used to use to cut off the CPU on drives is gone.

I'm on All-Star/Sim and will be staying there for a long while.
