Re: Please DON'T turn down gameplay intensity this year

Look i like the challenge too. I like that i have to settle for jumpshots sometimes and i love that im not able to dunk nearly as much(last year i could almost dunk at will) because you can't always penetrate(which is very realistic). However the way the ai steals and deflects passes is very unrealistic, for two reasons. One, they still steal passes without even looking at them(which 2k admitted was a flaw last year and was only put in the game to make it more challenging) 2k was supposed to fix this. Also since you really can't control what kind of pass you make(this really needs to change) it seems like the game just automatically makes you throw the worse pass possible for each situation to make it more challenging. For example if somebody is cutting to the basket and you try to pass it to them, sometimes instead of throwing a bounce pass right by the defender the game makes you throw a chest pass right at the defender(and alley oops get picked out of the air a lot of the time). That's garbage. Oh and i've watched replays to see my teammates randomly leave their man wide open. If you think those things are realistic you have no idea what you're talking about.

Just want show my support for the game as it is. The difficulty is great and refreshing. I will actually play offline this year. I don't do sliders so the games got be challenging for me or I will find someone who is. So far I haven't been able to play much online but haven't missed it.

I don't know. The cpu doesn't "play the game the right way." They chuck up bad shots, shoot at the end of the shot clock a lot of the time, have players with no business taking certain shots taking them, and the cpu is rewarded/bailed out for doing so.

I don't necessarily feel rewarded for playing properly because it really doesn't matter. If I play flawless offensively and shoot 60% from the field the cpu will figure out a way to keep it close (shooting 58%) and killing you on the offensive boards. I've also just ran up and down the court and shot 39% and the cpu did the same for most of the game. In most cases the cpu will do whatever with whomever to get the win.

Even when I win I feel as though the cpu could have won if it wanted to. I don't really feel it's me. I'm telling myself it's all because of my calling strategic timeouts and switching my defenses, etc. But, honestly I just feel the cpu let me win that one. Because when I do all of those things vs. inferior teams the cpu can/will play above ratings and outside of their tendencies for entire games. That my friend is frustrating.

It has nothing to do with skill level or ego. It has to do with centers that don't have range beyond 5 feet hitting 20 foot turnaround jumpers. It has to do with back up point guards having the same array of moves in the paint as Hakeem Olajuwon.

What's crazy is that it doesn't happen all of the time but, just enough to where it's so jarringly unrealistic when it happens that it increases the frustration even greater. Especially when the game is playing beautifully. I understand the game being punitive for mistakes (even if it does seem like it makes you pay for every mistake). When you play right and the cpu does crazy ish on the regular...................Dude. I don't know man.

          All-Star/Sim btw.

2K DEVS PLEASE TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THIS THREAD AND LISTEN TO US. Sorry for the caps but seriously, I DO NOT want this gameplay to be changed. The only thing gameplay wise I wouldn't mind seeing changed is the reduction of 3pt percentages just a tad bit.

2K you have the best basketball simulation game ever right now. Don't pay any attention to those who cry stupidly about the game. Playing in the NBA isn't easy so 2K12 shouldn't be easy either.

Do not, I repeat do not make this game easier or catered more to the casual players.

Lol you obviously don't know what you're talking about. There's nothing wrong with difficulty, FAIR difficulty. I don't know what planet you live on where nba players steal passes with their backs turned, or where nba players try to make the worse passes possible(like instead of doing a simple bounce pass by a defender the game makes you throw a chest pass straight to the defender). I will give 2k props but i will NOT be a blind fanboy/sheep like some of you guys are. There are still a good amount of problems with the gameplay, it's not perfect like some of you guys are saying it is.

There are alot of tools in this years game and I would like to take the time to learn about them all, all of the things talked about in those insights on both offense and defense, and how much more life like the CPU plays, the challenge is how it needs to be, CHALLENGING!!

I feel like there is a window to learn some things on defense as well as how to stop certain teams. Played the Spurs twice with Denver...got whipped the 1st game because I couldn't stop Tony Parker's driving and Manu's craftiness... the 2nd time I put them in their place (just thought about the Grizzlies last year )

Point im making is, you can learn new things, about executing, how to be more effective, and overall strategy

Last year the game was changed somehow, and this year I am starkly against anyone asking for this game's intensity to be toned down just so they can 3pt and dunk their way to easy wins...

While I am not saying its perfect as can be, I am saying is

I think 2k did a great job and I just wont let it go down without a fight
I haven't played the AI yet. I just did three games (the last 2 where simply the best moment i had a pad in my hand) Sim/all star (we just lowered 3 pts shoot ratings by 4 and mid range shooting by 3) and the game is perfect. Every possession, every play, in offense or playing D you have so many options, you have control on everything, it's simply great as it is.

All this to say am with you and I hope no major gameplay patches will be done on this beautifull game.

I'm sorry but this thread needs a bump. I'm effing tired of developers (generally) bending over so that a game would be easier to the casual fans.

Fix the glitches, polish the gameplay if a patch is planned but I hope that they keep in mind that THEY DON'T NEED TO CHANGE THEIR PHILOSOPHY / GOAL which is to deliver the most realistic basketball game on an optical disc!!!

This thread has been the best thread I have seen in any forum for years!! LOL

they need to tone down the on-ball steals in this game though (namely online). it's ridiculous.

Also making my ai teammates randomly just leave their man open is NOT how you make a game more challenging, neither is making the passing slow/lethargic. Passes need to be more crisp and accurate, sometimes they won't even pass to the right person(even when you're pushing the stick the way you wan to pass it) and button control passing is slightly slower.

I love the gameplay, I mean now I can go online and actually beat people who just turbo and attempt to drive to the rim every single play. I also love the challenge of actually having to call plays because of the improved D, whereas in the previous 2k titles you can just iso all day.

The up and under moves are nothing once you get use to it. The post defense works really well once you get use to it. The iso moves become useful, and dont forget your shot gathers play a huge part.

                              Tips that might help
If your on offense and you have a pick coming from the left, and there isnt a clear lane but a good look coming off the pick use L2/LT and Rstick(to the left)

Use L2/LT and R2/RT when covering on defense. But only when you need it. You can stop players from running around you easily.

Do not fall for shot fakes.

Play inside out if you have good shooters. Theres always someone on the weak side ready to shoot or in position to make a play.

Use Shot gathers in the post when you have mismatches. Dwight Howard shot gather animations are a beast downlow. (L2/LT+Rstick)

Branch your shot gathers into crossovers with good ball handlers on perimeter. Easily get your defender off his feet or out of position.

Theres plenty more I cant think of right now.

Things that need to be fixed/patched that shouldnt mess with core gameplay.
                              1. 50 buzzer beaters a game from the cpu. Reward us for our defense.
                              2. Low rated low offense players shouldnt consistently look like Hakeem Olajuwon.
                              3. Fix the CPU offense, just like #1, CPU shouldnt be holding the ball until the last 3 seconds.
                              4. Fix Users Fastbreaks.
                              5. CP3 should be able to take any Big Man off the dribble.
                              6. Fix the slippery feet on defense.
I have ONLY played the demo, and I just bought the game tonight (son just got done playing Lego Star Wars III and is heading to bed, so I'm going to pop in NBA 2K12), but I KNEW that your #3 complaint was as something that 2K wasn't going to have fixed in this year's version. Until folks start making your #3 complaint THEIR #1 complaint, 2K isn't going to care about it. There's just too many folks who buy the game PURELY to see what shoes so-and-so is wearing, or who want to coo over the graphics of stadiums. It's the truth, sadly. NBA 2K11 was a GREAT game, so no shame if 2K12 falls short (or isn't even as fun to play, as game publishers ALWAYS take out things that work, for obvious reasons) of expectations.
