Re: The Defensive Help Thread (2k12)
Nice thread you have to play smart this year the AI is looking to take advantage of all your mistakes if your constantly going for the steal or jumping at every head or pump fake you have no chance, you also have to be able to adjust on the fly, man to man, zone, pressure shooters, defend the paint, 2k gave you all you need to defend just take your time and pick the right defense.Last edited by coolcras7; 10-08-2011, 03:43 PM.PSN=Coolcas7Comment

Re: The Defensive Help Thread (2k12)
nah it has nothing to do with that 2k games have ALWAYS had to have a good strategy when playing ..I know basketball as i am a diehard but once the offensive playerr beats you in this game and takes that pull up theres no stopping itSLIDERS SUCKComment

Re: The Defensive Help Thread (2k12)
I promise that if you practice shading defenders playing defense becomes much easier.
I cant stress how much shading helps this year, you begin to see that once you commit to keeping players from certain parts fo the floor they're not left with a lot of options. Even guys pulling up from mid range becomes less of a problem and you'll get much more contested shots..::..::::::::.:.:.:.:....:::.:.::::..:.:::....:::: ...:..::."When you're an assassin, you don't have a conscience"-Gilbert ArenasComment

Every trip down the floor its like 80% im just getting lucky they dont score it seems...now i havent gotten blow out yet but the defense just feels too loose for some reasonSLIDERS SUCKComment

Re: The Defensive Help Thread (2k12)
Shade them just means cut off a side and lead them to the help defense not just standing right in front of them (play them at an angle) , limit there options and have them go only to a specific side.
Also why are you even playing at Hall of Fame? You should learn the game first, this isnt 2k11. All star/ superstar was extremely difficult for me against the cpu i cant imagine HOF. I put my difficulty down to pro/sim and will probably bump it up since i just beat the CPU by 18 and 20 pts respectively.Comment

I think the clumsy and awkward movement I see ppl talking about is because the player you are using isn't a very good defender so the game makes it hard to keep him under control or that's just how it feels to me.
When playing D as a big man down low and last year all you had to do was hold down the LT and your player would body him up and easily contest the shot. This doesn't seem to work anymore anyone have any tips on how to contest shots right underneath the basket?Comment

Re: The Defensive Help Thread (2k12)
Like a lot of people here, initially I struggled with the defensive part of the game. So hopefully in this yhread we'll be able to discuss strategy and share tips on how to become better at defense.
I have a couple of tips that have really helped me so far, as I feel my defense has become much more effective.
First I would like to say I play on Superstar, simulation, 12 min qtrs, with default sliders.
- I beginning to see that much like the real NBA, in this game team defense is much more effective than 1 on 1 defense. Besides going for steals and blocks, defense in past 2k games was much more passive (atleast against the cpu).
- When playing perimeter defense against the cpu I find it extremely useful to know where my help is and cheat towards the opposite side that would lead the ball handler to my help if he does happen to get by me. This also makes cutting off the ball handler easier because you already know which way he is going to go if he decides to take the ball himself, just make sure you don't over-pursue and let the ball handler get on the opposite side away from the help.
- If the ball handler has the ball at the top of the key, cheat slightly so that your center will be in position to help if the ball handler decides to drive. Again its important to not let the ball handler drive without any resistance, just make it so if that you do get beat there is help to back you up.
- If the ballhandler has the ball on the wing area, or the area that extends past the elbow, cheat toward the paint area. The cpu wants to be able to drive the ball into the paint which totally breaks down your defense. I always cheat to where my defender has his back to the freethrow line, that way if the ball handler attacks he'll have to drive toward the post area.
- If the ballhandler is in the corner, make sure that you do not let them go baseline.
- Switch often and try to always play on ball defense. If the ball is passed around the perimeter switch to that defender and close out on the player so that there aren't any easy shots.
I have some more tips but I'll have to post them later.
If anyone else has any tips feel free to add themComment

Re: The Defensive Help Thread (2k12)
forcing them baseline means its a better chance they will shoot one of those high arcing almost behind the backboard shots if you play it from the right angleSLIDERS SUCKComment

Re: The Defensive Help Thread (2k12)
If u have a good ball handler baseline can be abused, which I do in real life if I see someone slacking from there. Help comes once u go baseline and that same help has his back turned to his man which makes it easy to get an easy pass for an easy shot. And if the help does not come then u have a layup or can run to the next side of the court. Making the defense turn their backs is a huge liability to their team IMO.
In other words, u want to give baseline to everyone except a great ball handler/ decision maker.'Only The Strong Survive'Comment
