there is no answer....as fast as a player like Russel Westbrook is u have zero chance of stopping the cpu westbrook...he's so fast he'll blow right by you everytime and just when you play him with good defense he hits the mid range J. Double him and he makes a pinpoint pass out of the pressure and your burned by a 3 from either Harden or Durant. I know they are sorta like this in real life but dam they dont miss on this game

At least that is how it is on HOF

I play with the Hornets and I think my on ball defense is great. The only problem is interior help and post D. I put constant pressure on the perimeter and cheat if I think they are going for the post entry. I just played against the Jazz and Harris wouldn't take an outside shot, even if he's wide open. He was always looking for Jefferson in the post. I ended up with 11 steals with Paul and 17 overall.

I"m still trying to figure out how to block with Okafor and West. Even with help defense, the CPU always get the shot up.

Superstar 10min quarters. No slider adjustments and on Sim.

I played a cheesy game and ended up with 70+ with Paul while winning by 15+. I scored less than 90 and did the post spin on the perimeter to see how many points I can score. Chris Paul was going in for an easy layup most of the time. They did a slight adjustment with Jefferson playing off his guy, but I would just pull up with the jumper when I see him closing in on the paint.

It's not how I usually play, but I had to test out a few things, because someone did that to me online with Kobe. I tried 1-3-1 and it stopped him. The CPU didn't play zone during my game, so it was easy pickings.

I was calling Quick Iso with Space the Floor for shooters all game btw.

Re: The Defensive Help Thread (2k12)

              A couple of things:

              - This thread was designed to help people steadily improve their defense in this game. I would advise people to keep practicing the tips that people suggest and keep learning the ins and outs of the game. I feel I have improved a lot but I still get burned, I still give up big runs and easy looks, I still make a lot of mistakes, and I still lose games. Its something I accept because honestly it makes the game fun to me. I just hope to get others to feel how I feel about the game, which is I dont feel like I'm being beaten because of unfair balances in the gameplay, but because of mistakes I make.

              - To those that are having trouble with guys pulling up from mid range, I want to ask how much room you're giving when you shade the ballhandler? You want to keep the defender at an angle to keep him from getting into the middle of the paint, but not so much that you give them enough space to drive past you freely. So do offer resistance to any drive but make sure that stopping them from getting into the middle of the paint is your #1 priority. If I can, what I'll do is initiate the bump animation and while that is going on, reset my defender so that he is ready in case the ballhandler tries to make a move into the paint.

              - Be careful with using the LT + RT to cut off the ballhandler. I noticed that after you initiate contact, its easy to hold RT too long and get out of position.

              - I'm hoping to get up a video of me playing a game within the next couple of days, so hopefully it will make things easier to explain.

              - Thanks to anyone who has contributed tips to the thread.

I usually dont bit** abut too much but HOF is ridiculously cheap this year.

I FINALLY beat OKC on HOF ...I was up by 8 with 1:20 left so i figure i'll set my defense to pressure shooters and play the perimeter hard and let them have the 2 's if need be just not give up 3's...guess what happens ..Durant hits 2 3's with me in his face and cuts it to 2..i get fouled go to the line and miss 1 of 2 and now have a three point lead.

Nate Robinson is now in so i play up on him and you already know what happens....Tied

go back down get a layup with 10 secs left...Durant takes the final shot a 3 and low and behold he misses...This is the type of crap i'm talking about

I feel like my defense was useless i just got lucky the CPU missed the final shot. Never have i felt that way about a 2k game and i've been play ONLY 2k basketball games since dreamcast. I am in no way a casual

Casuals use sliders and play on Pro....IMO

Of course the CPU is going to cheat on Hall of Fame. It's the highest difficulty. The computer always cheats on the highest difficulty, in basically every game.

How about you put it on superstar? Everyone admitted that the difficulty has been raised quite a bit this year. That is not going to make you a "casual". Once you beat superstar by 10 or more points and never lose then bump it up again. Bring your ego down a notch, its much better than being frustrated all the time over a video game.

Re: The Defensive Help Thread (2k12)

just beat the cpu on HOF difficulty.

Remember when you shading someone make sure to always shade them towards the help defense. It is MUCH harder to score in the paint with contact this year. So if they go by you and the help defense is there they will not score a majority of the time

When they go to the side that you dont want them to go use LT + RT to cut them off. Remember try not fall for crossovers and commit them to one side

Good help defense is key this year. A team like boston dont have many good individual defenders but good HELP DEFENSE. which is why they are a good defensive team.

A team like miami can have mike bibby guard derrick rose because of there good TEAM defense as a hawks fan I remember when just about every starting calibur pg would murder us when we had mike bibby because we did not have an elite defensive system like miami.

Don't know if this has been mentioned already because I do not feel like reading through every page of this thread. I notice if you make defensive adjustments from the pause menu and then select one of the OTF defensive calls during game play, it erases the adjustments you made at the pause menu. For instance after making adjustments at the pause menu I selected the (lockdown the paint) OTF defensive call, and went back to check the defensive matchup settings I made and everything was assigned to double team any drive to the basket. I think this is the reason why people are seeing the A.I leave their defensive assignments allowing the cpu to kick the ball out for a wide-open shot.

I run scrimmages on HOF and it seems they don't miss a shot. I usually do first to 50 wins. I never won, but the closest I got was by 6 points.
