Re: Too many 'live ball' blocks?

There are too many of these 'live ball' blocks and steals but not enough true blocks and steal. Too many times have I seen a player get his shot blocked by someones elbow or someones back or a player get the ball stolen because he dribbled near a players leg(notice I said near not off). I've noticed that most of my steals do not come from me playing good defense and timing the swipe or playing the passing lanes but from the opposing ballhandler just losing control of the ball when he's dribbling near a defender. I've also noticed that the majority of blocks come from me pretty much not doing anything except just waiting for the ballhander to drive the lane, put my hands up and wait for him to lay the ball up into my players elbows or backs.

Re: Too many 'live ball' blocks?

I agree with the complaints about the live ball, but I also find it incredibly frustrating to be ahead of everyone on a fast break, go up for a safe, two handed dunk, and then have the ball poked out from behind.

Sure, I get it if Lebron comes sprinting back on defense to murder my chance at scoring, but when an average defender is behind me, and he doesn't even JUMP to block my dunk, but rather runs towards me with his hand sticking out? That's just ridiculous.

Yea I completely agree with this. The most egregious steal was Mo williams running between me (Kobe) and Eric Gordon while I was in a standing dribble and unintentionally knocking it out then him looking down the moment it touched his knee and picking it up and taking it back for a slam dunk...
smh. Would NEVER happen to Kobe or any ball handler IRL...

I'll meet you halfway on this. I like the live ball dribbling. Players lose the ball in this game at just about the correct rate with respect to an NBA game. Also I have yet to play another human, but I'm thinking it'll be lovely against people who like to indiscriminately dribble into traffic. The blocking does need some work. Blocks from behind on dunks are a bit too prevalent as are some simple put backs.

Still though if given the choice between 2K12 and any other game when it comes to this I'll take 2K12 100 times out of 100.

I get what you're saying but I don't feel rewarded for playing good defense rather I get handed steals and blocks due to over-sensitivity of live ball system.

Im not sure about you guys, but the people I hoop with fight through incidental contact on the ball during shots and sometime even intentional strips and block attempts.

In 2k12 its as if these NBA athletes have the hands of a 6 year old.

I actually love the "live blocks" this year. I just wish it doesn't count as a block if the player's body / elbow hit the ball.

i like them in theory, its just the execution. And it would be a bit better if they werent blocks, but even then the ball comes loose too easily.

Re: Too many 'live ball' blocks?

Just had a perfect example of this.
Knicks vs Hawks, had a clear lane except for Josh Smith who was facing the opposite direction. I drive to the hole, go up for the dunk but the game makes it a lay-up simply because Smith is underneath the basket and after I'm in the air for a second he just jumps up, still has never looked at me, and with the finger nails (the middle, ring, and index specifically) knocks the ball backwards.

                    WTF

Oh okay Mr. Staff Sergeant has entered the thread and voiced his opinion, everything is fine guys delete the thread and enjoy the game. That's not how it works. Just because you think it's fine doesn't mean others do as well.

I'll play devil's advocate here - they also would take better shots at times. There are plenty of user/cpu created shots that are not ideal. And if you see that happening you can re-adjust your shot to avoid it.

I would say we're just trained to not think this way. A shot is a shot.

There are a few blks I notice in the paint but for the most of it blks are good. I have played about 9 games online and 15 off and I have never seen more than 6 blks by either team.

I mentioned this in another thread before it got deleted, IMO the live ball physics needs to be toned down or more fouls need to be called. Too many times I seen players make unrealistic blocks in the paint, so either tone it down or raise the foul rating.

I think it needs to be toned down a bit. the court spacing in 2K (read: basketball video games in general) isn't really advanced enough yet to have the ball be as live as it is.

telling someone to simply "take better shots" isn't gonna completely solve this issue. i don't mind getting the ball knocked away when i'm doing something stupid. but, for example, when i have a clear lane to the basket, trigger a dunk animation (which is a pretty good indication that I'm taking a good shot), and then the AI players awkwardly converge around me and somebody manages to get a block by accident with their elbow, that kinda sucks.

to play devil's advocate myself: in real life, how often do your teammates cut right next to you and bring their defender with them when they see that you're clearly in the middle of an iso

Thats irratating. On the whole what we have now is much better than what we had last year. Just needs a bit of a tune up.
