Re: Too many 'live ball' blocks?

this needs to be toned down a lot. ive never seen anyone in real life block another person with thier hip before no matter how much the person is forcing his shot.

its also ridiculous how you easily you can poke the ball out of a dunk animation this year. we are talking abt going in at full speed lebronesque dunks.

and it completely kills the game when you can exploit the system by walking in front of their pg bringing the ball up the court and just kick the ball away. i do it all the time cause i want to win, and i want to even the playing field a bit since it happens to me all the time, but it completely kills the enjoyment of the game. i wish there was a slider that can stop this madness and make it like blacktop where you cant kick the ball. these are the best players to ever play the game. it would never happen to them in real life anyways.

I'll play devil's advocate here - they also would take better shots at times. There are plenty of user/cpu created shots that are not ideal. And if you see that happening you can re-adjust your shot to avoid it.

I would say we're just trained to not think this way. A shot is a shot.
Regardless of the quality of the shot, it does not mean that the likelihood of the shot being block unintentionally increases.

More often than not bad shots result in true hand-on-ball blocks, hand-on-ball strips, awkward attempts and charges.

Never have I seen an instance where a bad shot resulted in the ball being easily blocked/jarred loose by a random body part.

I agree as well. The ball is too loose. I have seen dunk attempts twarted because someone strips the ball. It has happened on a lot of backwards dunks where the defender will just jump into you and you lose the ball! This kills some of my enjoyment because it just does not happen often in the NBA.

With a combination of the block tracking and " live ball" I am seeing an exorbitant amount of turnovers in my game. If 2k can somehow tone down some of the annoyances like fastbreak logic, quicker passing, camera options in the dpad, quicker reactions to blocks for jumpshooters we will truly have a gem! There are more little problems but I think a patch can fix it, I will be in basketball heaven. Sorry for the extra rant.

You gotta be drunk if you honestly believe that. My 6'4" PG in My Player has a career high of 14 blocks. And most of them, I didn't even press the block button, it was just a result of mild collisions in the paint.

It's not just "problems" with it, it's completely broken.

Re: Too many 'live ball' blocks?

My biggest issue with "live ball" blocks has come when a player is directly under the basket (after an offensive rebound more times than not). A part of me doesn't have an issue with being blocked when trying to power back up amongst the trees. I mean, logically we can say, "Welp, what do you expect? You're trying to go up with a defender right next to you." But another part of me believes a lot of NBA bigs have an ability to use their bodies and power up without automatically being rejected. In this case, it seems a lot of the blocks are happening on the way up and at times it seems any situation near the basket turns into a Charles Smith scenario:

I think I remember that guy from the 2K forums, and what's funny is he almost NEVER makes a well thought out response. There's always some gross oversight or massive logic error that makes you wonder if you're in the bizzarro world.

As for the topic at hand I'm wondering what the fix is. As I said before I'd rather it like this than it was before, but it is a bit ridiculous. It's especially annoying in My Player because sometimes you can see right from the beginning of the play how hard your guys are about to fail. Maybe freeing up the ball later? More "deliberate" contact? I'm thinking that the ball should be able to be deflected by anything when it's in the air, but if the player still has their hands on it only feet and forearms should be able to defect the ball. That way you can still dribble off of people's feet, bu not their legs, and you wont end up blocking shots out of people's hands with your nuts (yes this has happened).

Don't know if all that can be implemented this year though.

Yeah, that might actually work out. I've been doing the Fast Break drill quite a lot, and since my PG is on the Lakers, I always face Kobe. I can get a block on 100% of the drives in this mode, because as long as I jump up at the same time as he starts his drive, I'm getting a block, whether I hit the ball with my hand, my shoulder, my head or my knee. It just doesn't matter. Any contact turns into a block, and that's plainly not how NBA basketball works.

Almost every layup in the NBA has some sort of contact involved in it. Yet, the great slashers of the league manages to sink most of them. In 2K12, they can barely hit any.

Ill take this over the alternative. It could definitely be toned though...

the more protection we have against being "animated through", the better...

Ill take a couple elbow blocks to counter that....btw, are they actually counted as "blocks" in the game?

14 blocks? That many occurrences would indicate something you're doing imo. This isn't 2K11, adjust to the new gameplay mechanics if you're interested in playing the game instead of telling them to change. I'm not saying your concern or anyone else's concern doesn't have some validity, but give these guys *some* credit for knowing what they're doing and not fight against it. Learn the new game.

Thinking back I had problems with the loose ball seeming chaotic at times underneath the basket. I feel myself getting better and better and over the past few days can't think of any times where I had those same situations.

The announcers say it out even though it doesn't look like a block...

I've been messing with the Vert slider since I want my shot blockers to ACTUALLY jump as of now the shot blockers feel grounded to me at 50 default...so I bumped it up by two and lo' and behold you actually get to see Dwight do stuff like this in the vid..

It's not a random body part - it's what is impeding your way when going up with the ball.

Don't go up with the ball in traffic. Pass out or adjust your shot. I felt like you did early on until I learned not to force my shots.

Yeah, and it muddies up the stats for simulation guys. I think, but I'm not 100% yet, that the Ball Handling slider affects how much this occurs. I'm still testing it here, but it seems to put a mini forcefield around the offensive guy while he's dribbling that carries over into the shot. I don't like it, so I'm leaving the slider at 50 for now.

I'm not saying your concern or anyone else's concern doesn't have some validity, but give these guys *some* credit for knowing what they're doing and not fight against it. Learn the new game.
So I should deliberately move out of the way when Lebron comes driving down the paint, so that I don't get an absurd block? Because that's the "New Game" ... ?

                            Are you serious?

I feel myself getting better and better and over the past few days can't think of any times where I had those same situations.
Sure, it's perfectly possible to play this game and rain mid range and 3 point jumpers all day. In fact, that's the easiest way of playing the game. But it certainly isn't realistic basketball.

The drive to the rim layup is very dominant in today's NBA basketball. And the game absolutely doesn't replicate that.

                            Yes, they are.

So, essentially, make every player play like Ray Allen. The in traffic layup is the most dominant offensive play in the NBA. Why shouldn't the game replicate that?

Are YOU serious. 14 blocks with a 6'4" point guard? Blocking Lebron that much? I've watched plenty of pre-release video, played the demo, playing the full version and haven't seen anything come anywhere near close. As I said to you when you were complaining about something else - send me a link to your 3.5mil viewed youtube channel so I can see what you mean. Again, I'd give the developers a *little* bit of credit for knowing what they're doing instead of insinuating they're that inept that they'd think that type of play was okay.

Not even sure how you could get that many instances in 4 12min quarters of Lebron going that hard to the rim that many times and you also having your 6'4" guard in position to get a block that many times because of the live ball physics. But that's just me.
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

It would be cool if they didn't count as blocks but other than that I like the physics
