Every time I throw into the post, they always have a help defender just come down and just stand in the middle of the paint. It's just odd. I mean, they sometimes leave good shooters just sitting wide open. But, if you're going to come down to help, then help. I don't see a point to just literally walking down to the paint only to just stand there 5 feet away from the post for 5-6 seconds and then walk away. It's just like the video on the first page.
Not to forget these help defenders aren't rewarded with 3 Second Violations as often for standing in the paint so long. I've play only 2 games that as a result of the cpu defenders standing in the paint resulted in technical fouls being called when it happens every game. Absolutely no regard for the NBA rules or officials lol.

To the other poster hedging doesn't play a part in why defenders leave their assignments.
Where they DO that? ? ?

Re: Why are defenders leaving their assignments?

I think it will be patched. I have a lot of issues with the defense especially, but this is one area that a lot of people seem to have the same views on.

I know they are committed to releasing and maintaining a solid product and this is an avenue that would potentially solve a few little problems here and there.

Re: Why are defenders leaving their assignments?

This needs to be Patched. I go to put Charlie Villanueva on Carlos Delfino. Then I switch to an off-ball defender, and all of a sudden Villanueva just walks away and Delfino blasts the 3.

Patch this 2K. I got Play Tight, Deny Ball all those settings on - no way this should be happening.

Re: Why are defenders leaving their assignments?

It's frustrating as hell and it's happening when I have the ball as well. For some reason the computer defenders will regularly elect to double the likes of Biedrins as soon as the ball enters the post, totally abandoning one of my three-point shooters. End result: 60% shooting from behind the arc, and not because the shooting percentages are jacked up, but because I'm taking what's being given to me.

Re: Why are defenders leaving their assignments?

Having the same issues. Getting destroyed by defenders leaving their assignments and the CPU hitting three's. Before the game starts, i set my settings to:

              double teams - never
              play tight on everyone
              deny ball on everyone

the only thing i noticed is that when players are subbed off and come back in the game, the coach settings automatically set back your defensive settings to "auto". For example, before the game i set mo williams to a "play tight" defence. mo gets subbed out and when he comes back, his setting is back to "auto".

i'm guessing you gotta call time out everytime to reset your settings to what you like? i just wish the settings you picked before the game stick and not automatically change ...

You don't set defensive settings on DEFENDERS, you set them for the opposing team's players.

I'm not picking on you, but I think this game is far too new for the kinds of complaints that I'm seeing on these forums. Threads like this make it very obvious that most gamers simply don't understand or know what all of the options within the game mean yet. 2K12 has only been out 2-3 weeks.

Let's all learn the game first as a community and then determine what areas really don't work.

huH? i know you set the settings for the opposing team's players ... i know theres a bunch of other options within the game i probably haven't explored yet, but if i set my settings are on 'play tight' they shouldn't leave their man open for 3's all game, or that setting shouldn't change just cuz the dude got subbed out.

I have never ever seen those settings change when subs are made and that's countless games played. Maybe there's a bug but I doubt it.

Those individual defensive settings only change when the defensive quick plays are called (left arrow on the d-pad). If you're using those during a game then they change/reset the defensive settings for every player on the court.

What are you talking about? Saying that people don't understand is a pretty unfair excuse. I don't think that's the case at all, i know about all the defensive settings and this still happens. Have you found a way to cure it?

I think the problem is that something like this shouldn't be happening at all, defense is a fundamental aspect of basketball

A way to cure it? Did you try Deny ball and doubling set to never? I've tried countess of games with this settings and it doesn't happen to me not once. To the extent that the CPU on all star gets from 0 to 2 3 pointers against me and even those come off screens. It works.

I usually sagg off of the worse shooters and leave help D on 10 so the center or PF will still help when someone drives into the paint.

Take the time to watch Czars video...you can completely eliminate this....

if your still complaining at this point, its simply b/c you want to.

Yeah, i always have double team set to never, and i've tried deny the ball and i saw no difference. This seems like some kind of glitch or problem in the defensive ai.

I'm curious as to how this affects zone defense. Anyone noticed a change in zone defense? Do players randomly leave their zones, or go help randomly like they do on man to man? I sometimes will switch up to zone but i prefer man to man. Seems like i've still see some over helping in zone.

yeah, this mainly happens to me after the cpu will throw an inbound pass on their side of the court. my c will be guarding pg, then of course they recognize the mismatch and their center either scores or get fouled by my pg. very ****ing annoying.

all with double teaming set to never.
