What's the big deal? Change the sliders and keep it movin'. Why does anyone complain about player ratings/abilities when you can change the sliders?

Sliders isn't always the answer. It is more effective to change the roster than it is the slider. After the ratings are in touch, then you change sliders if the issues are still present. the issue is messed up ratings. Not sliders.

        I completely agree.

In addition, 40 year old Kareem was still definitely dunking. I mean, he was a long 7'2''. He hardly had to jump.

In a slightly unrelated note, watching these again, KAJ was such an animal. Much love for his game.

With regards to KAJ's dunking, seems to me he was primarily a standing dunker. What's his rating for that? It's possible that a higher Dunk rating may trigger dunk animations too often and if that's the case, may be one of the reasons why he has such a low rating. Of course, this is entirely speculation, so feel free to disregard if this is inaccurate.

Yeah I think that's a good thought. Jeebs had mentioned that as well. I didn't look at the standing dunk rating. However, in other cases with guys like Dickey Simpkins, it didn't seem to be a standing dunk thing. Rather, it just seemed like a "can't dunk" thing. But then again, sometimes it's hard to figure all that out for certain, as players seem to perform differently in practice mode than they do in games.

Isn't that true in real life though? Just because one can dunk doesn't mean that all of a sudden they have the ability to dunk in traffic with bodies in the way.

I can dunk. But, coupled with my height (5'9) and my slight build (150 pounds) I'm not gonna have enough power to muscle through the contact and actually dunk in game. Sometimes it's just easier to lay the ball up instead of wasting unnecessary energy to gather the power necessary to dunk in the first place...

True. And sometimes it's the other way around. I'm getting a little bit higher and dunking a little bit harder in games when the adrenaline's pumping. And I feel like NBA 2K accidentally accounts for that. For instance, the Allen Iverson on the '00 roster I used in last year's game couldn't dunk in practice mode, but he could in a game. For the sake of accuracy, it'd be nice if the two abilities coincided with each other. That way, I could boost a Kareem dunk attribute, enter practice mode, see if he can dunk (and what kind of dunks), then know for sure that's how he'll translate into games. And I know it'd be hard to account for contact dunks, but sometimes even the wide-open dunking abilities vary between practice and games in 2K.

Nice videos but I don't remember Kareem dunking that much in 87'. He scored mostly off free throws, lay-ups, put-backs and sky hooks. He managed to average around 17 ppg if I'm not mistaken.
Where they DO that? ? ?

Re: So '87 Kareem couldn't dunk?

Y'all ever saw showtime Lakers play, more precisely that '87 Lakers team, the best Lakers team ever? Kareem didn't dunk that much by that time? Of course he wasn't dunking like when he was young but he was still really well conditioned and athletic for a man pushing 35 plus, oh and he was 7'2. 2K having those ratings with Kareem unable to dunk just shows you how much work went into legends ratings, I give them props for having so many great teams and players in the game, some ratings are fine but many others are way off, just saying though because you can change them...

I'm lol'ing still at the clip of Kareem leading the fast break, dribbling nervously with his right hand with his head down not seeing his open teammates at all.

Speaking about older Kareem, has anyone seen that commerical with William Shatner and Kareem? (Check out Kareem at 0:38)

He actually has a woman's voice in the commercial (as if she's disguised).

I found that Wilkins and Webb on the Classic Hawks team had no dunk moves either?!?!? I added them (had to bump up Spud Webbs dunk rating I think)

i haven't read every post in this thread, so maybe this has been said already. i wonder if height has an impact on dunk rating. if a player is 7'7'' with a dunk rating of fifty, maybe it's the equivalent of say, a player with spub webb's height with a dunk rating of a hundred? something to that effect.
