    Re: Played some 2k11 today...

Can't go back to 2k11.Five aspects of this game are now a gamebreaker for me:

    1. Limited plays.
    2. Cpu runs the same offensive plays over and over.
    3. Post play is limited compared to 2k12.
    4. Mid range game is limited.
    5. Too much bumping even with major slider tweaking.

Add presentation, spot on realistic stats in pro/custom for me, great cpu adaptative AI, non shooting only fouls and the major plus for me is the D in 2k12: It's realistic, difficult and when you succeed at it you feel that it wasn't automatic or a cpu controlled outcome.
    2k12 hands down.

      Re: Played some 2k11 today...

2K12 > 2K11: Gameplay controls, post game, not a dunk fest. I'm on unpatched PC, so from what I see they need to lower steals and blocks a couple notches down. 2k11 was a cannimation fest. 2K12 isomotion and post game feels a lot more immediate but the players movement felt slippery at first until I got used to the momentum.

      2K11 > 2K12 Overall features (crew + pickup)

Shouldn't the patched in fixes for 2k11 been default on the disk 2k12. I just don't buy that as an excuse. 12 should have been built off of whatever was fixed in 11.

Serious question for you? Let's say your running an offense that the defense can't stop. Play after play you're successful. Would you, (a) continue to run the play until the defense brings your success to an end, or (b) apply a different, less successful strategy? Unless you're an idiot, or your throwing the game you would choose a. Anybody with half an intellect would. 2k should have just applied new rosters, soundtracks, legends, and tweak a a few issues with 2k11's format and everything would have been great. I can't believe how much of a step back 2k took with gameplay. If it ain't broke, Why fix it? SMH.

            Re: Played some 2k11 today...

2k11 was ordered last night. So many steps backward in 2k12 for me. It feels like 2k9 with more mechanics added( recycled old iterations of the game every year). The biggest gripe is the shot releases with are elementary compared to 2k11 where i had to practice to be good offline and online. Defensive sliding while playing on ball is horrible like 2k10,horrible out of the box mechanics/ratings, to many highilight dunks over shot blockers, etc etc. I dont care about the flashy "flick" moves and post moves. No real nba player uses those moves these days. With EA having a 2 year dev cycle by canceling their game last season, i hope they give 2k a gut punch and make them step it up for 2k14

notice that people typing" shooting isnt fun in 2k11". Hmmm maybe because they miss due to the fact of not learning shot releases? KNowing my rockets was the main reason i was killing in leagues due to my time in practice mode. I hope 2k brings that mentality back for 2k13, get these bums in practice mode instead of relying on constant runners and stepbacks

2K12 with accurate rosters and a good slider set is better than 2k11 and its not even close. The post and midrange (specifically shots of the pull-up) are not even comparable. I have my fair share of issues with the game but some of you are ridiculous.Hell, out of the box this game better than last year's game at the same point.

This is a ridiculous post. You hope EA makes 2K "step it up for 2K14". Give me a [expletive] break. If anything 2K attempted to do too much when that's supposedly what the community wanted. I don't think there's much denying that 2K attempted to deliver the most complex/deepest experiences to date in a basketball game. Perhaps in a sports game to date. The success of what they tried to implement can be debated. But NEVER their effort. I guarantee when the EA basketball game comes around, there won't be any expectation of the game having customizable dunk/layup/dribble packages, have every players' customized shooting/free throw animations, be on point with all it's presentation elements, offer multiple online gameplay modes, etc. Because it wasn't expected of the EA basketball games in the past. It'll be excuse after excuse - just as it was before Elite imploded, or with Live 10 the year before that.

I don't fault people for having some issues with 2K12, I have some myself. But this whole Monday Morning quarterbacking is thing is tiring. Not to generalize, but many in the "hardcore" community sit around crying about how much they want SIM this and SIM that, then when given these options refuse to take the time to learn new gameplay mechanics. Many people jumped straight into Hall of Fame and started complaining. LOUDLY. In retrospect given the level of complaining perhaps it'll mean 2K will take a more conservative approach to year-to-year improvements as other sports game developers do - imo that'll be unfortunate. I loved 2K11, but I didn't have any desire to pick it up once the 2K12 demo dropped. I traded the game in shortly thereafter so I can't comment on how the two games compare. But I have a hard time believing all the great people responsible for 2K11 somehow drew blank and forgot everything they know when they created 2K12.

Again, 2K12 definitely has issues. But some of you are ridiculous with your claims.

I played 2k11 yesterday its way more realistic than 2k12. There's alot less sliding on defense and stars take over games like in real life

Complaining, crying or whining is ALL the same to me especially since it's only a video game that will never be perfect but the good news is a lot of these same game flaws that plague us all have been looked into and hopefully will be addressed soon as the developers have mentioned.

I never try and write-off anything but some do. I'm no fanboy or worshiper of ANY game by any means nor can I defend EVERYTHING flawed in 2K12 as that itself would be totally ridiculous but some do. I'm playing in the same sandbox just like everyone one else but if 2K12 is as bad as people complain, cry or whine that it is why keep torturing yourselves when it's easy to put the game away and wait until it's patched oh wait. . . I forgot. . . it's not so bad afterall

Even though no patch fixes everything I am looking forward to this one.

Presentation is easily way better. The problem is 2k12 carries pretty much every flaw/problem that 2k11 had(such as the horrible passing and rebounding system) and adds a few new ones(every player apparently has a post game hakeem).
I feel you about some of those old 2K11 flaws/problems carrying over to 2K12. That should never have happened. The ball was surely dropped and how we'll never know. I can't relate to every player having a post-up game since I'm using a custom roster and very seldom see scrubs posting up but then again I'm not sitting around testing, reporting everything wrong with the game someone post either.

I'm so looking forward to the day we get to use/see some REAL arms to the side boxing out then going up for the rebound play on both sides of the ball which would've made me a very happy camper even though some bigs do manage to post decent boards per game after slider tweaks with custom rosters.

Now this I immediately noticed on release day. I guess it was tweaked because in 2K11 people complained so much about not being able to hit mid range or three point shots, it was so hard figuring out some players release points more than others which I can relate to online in 2K11 even though sometimes it would take almost 3 quarters or make you shy away from shooting with such players high caliber players. I always took it as these players having crappy games and coming on strong a little to late as some often do in real life.

I think a lot of NBA players if given the opportunity can try utilizing post moves if they strongly feel they can score. Just ask Leon Powe who was never considered an offensive threat but would go to the up and under or pump fake after snatching a rebound.

As for all this 2 year cycle BS with EA, I just laughed as they had no excuse as to why they took ten steps backwards even after having the nerve to release an NBA Elite demo. That thing with Andrew Bynum as God at mid court went down as the **** video game fail. Like. . . they took all these 2 year cycles just to drop their candy in the sand yet so many begged to differ. . . yeah right now so much was REALLY wrong that EA had to simple close-up shop and your talking about you hope EA gives 2K a gut punch in 2K14. . . I don't ever see that happening. EA IMO better be glad 2K didn't create an NFL 2K12 or Madden 12 would probably be shut down too. Now I really got a laugh out of that.

Thank you but the minute anyone voices such opinions their immediately considered fanboys. You left out the part about running plays. I like the fact that you can call a play and most can be ran on both sides of the court. That wasn't done in 2K11 and once your play was over your team mates would just stand there dead in the water whereas in 2K12 someone is always moving.

At least that's the case for me as everyone's game-play experience may differ.
Where they DO that? ? ?

Funny, but I've maxed out the cpu's offensive awareness slider. I've seen them run MANY different play sets (super star level). I still see animations after playing this game for well over a year that still make me shake my head in that "wow" moment...

Got straight into an old save game - finals, game 2, 97 Bulls vs Rockets.

First thing I noticed and cringed at was the dribbling. Ouch. No walk the ball up animation and the return of hunchback! I hated this in 2k11, and still do now. On the flip side, the iso motion created more options for blowing past defenders, I could get into the paint with les frustration and finish without the entire squad closing in on me ala 2k12, the baseline seemed easier to navigate which left me grinning as I pulled off several wicked double clutch reverses with MJ, something I sorely miss in 2k12.

Adding to that, I loved seeing the old layup animations, there were some truly (imo) fantastic double pump/contact animations in 2k11, ones that look to have been completely removed from 2k12 in favour of full stick control (With this, I hardly ever pull off anything that looks remotely realistic as some of the canned layup animations from 2k11) it was a joy to watch MJ get bumped and toss up a highlight prayer layup for the and 1.

Shooting wasn't as fun. There just felt like there was no weight to the players, the post game felt like I was playing an old nintendo bball game with only a small number of options, 2k12 destroys 2k11 in this department.

Passing in 2k11 had its flaws, but hell I really whipped some fast balls around the perimeter looking for the open man - felt alot more responsive, but with patience, I have learned to pass better in 2k12, despite the laggy, soemtimes floaty deliveries.

Classic arena sounds actually played!!!! Could hear the Bulls organ music when playing the Chicago Stadium and United Centre, if 2k12 could sort this out, I would be forever sold!!

Presentation wise is a no brainer, 2k12 is far superior, not much more to be said on that matter.

One last thing.....if you're gonna have the GOAT in the game, don't take away his signature moves - please put back in his one handed palm pump fake!

Overall, I enjoyed going back to 2k11, having several areas that I missed greatly. That said, 2k12 is by far the better game, even with its many flaws. The fluidity and sheer number of moves at your disposal makes going back to 2k11 like playing Bird VS Jordan on the NES.
Thank God im not the only one that misses 2k11s layups. The ones on 2k12 have no explosion and dont look realistic in traffic at all.

lol you mean the "canimations" so many people complained about last year (some EA football-Ian-coined term btw)? Some of you don't seem to know what you want. While the contact system is far from perfect, imo they did improve on it. Just like rotations and the playbooks, which so many complained about last year if I recall correctly
