    Re: Played some 2k11 today...

Just loaded up my 2K11, damn this game is so much smoother. Everything just flows nicely.
Especially when you take a jumpshot, it doesnt feel as robotic and stiff, its just completely smooth. I dont think you can change this sort of thing with a patch?

No ridiculous PIP by CPU, no cheesy up and under/flick flick moves, just pure bball. Really enjoyable game. I really hope 2k12 problems are fixed by the patch.

One thing that stands out though is the lack of plays. That is one HUGE advantage that 2K12 has over 11.

        Re: Played some 2k11 today...

after a few months I think i can sum up what bothers me about 2k12: unresponsive movements and inappropriate animations.

2k11 just felt responsive...when you did something on your controller, your player reacted instantly and the manner that you wanted him to - 2k11 just felt right. 2k11's animations just made sense. when you pressed a button or moved a control stick, your player performed the movement that you wanted him to (whether it was a layup, a pass, a shot block attempt or even just dribbling around the court).

on the other hand, in 2k12, when you press a button or move a control stick, your player often does a delayed or strange animation that just doesn't make sense for the situation (whether it's pass animations, layup animations, block animations)...every movement in 2k12 just feels like it has a delay or overly long gather attached to it. it feels like 2k added a bunch of automatic hesitations and gathers to their animations - this just makes the whole game feel unresponsive and unsatisfying.

that quick, responsive feel of 2k11's movement is gone. here's a perfect example - in 2k11 if you did an overhead pass to a big man and he caught the ball above his head, you could instantly go into a layup or dunk animation where the big man would keep the ball above his head and just rise up...this is an efficient movement. but in 2k12 when you pass to a player near the hoop it seems like he always does this slow gather where he has to plant his feet and bring the ball down below his waste before he can put up a layup...and then when he does put up the layup he will do an inappropriate animation where he'll lean way back away from the rim and expose the ball to being blocked. this is what i mean by unresponsive and inappropriate animations. in 2k11 it felt like when you did a layup your player would continue all the way to the rim and lay the ball in right near the rim...but in 2k12 it seems like players are always releasing the ball way too early and too far from the rim, thus exposing them to getting blocked.

it's all about efficient contextual movement...meaning shortening animations and removing unnecessary frames from animations based on the context...it's also about making sure each animations is as effective as possible - such has having a guy lay the ball in right over the rim rather than having him put up some strange floater way too far from the rim. this type of delayed and inappropriate movement seems to be present in just about every area of the game...except jump shots...somehow jump shots got much faster while every other type of action in the game got slower and less intelligent.

my other big problem with 2k12 is the lack of contact compared to 2k11. in 2k12 on defense you can no longer initiate a "ride" animation while holding turbo. there are also lot of moves around the rim that just can't be interrupted with contact (spin moves, hop steps, up-and-under layups, leaning layups, etc.). this makes playing defense frustrating as hell, because you can't force a contact layup even if your player is right in front of the offensive player.

i also don't like that they they removed the hopstep button. it puts too much of a limit on when you can do a hopstep - now you can only do a hopstep if you are moving perfectly straight toward the hoop. but what if you want to do a hop step diagonally toward the hoop? can't do it now.

I have 2k11, how long do they support rosters? I am assuming that they dont update 2k11 once 2k12 is out.

Support as in official updates? If so, yeah that's long gone.

Side, note anyone wanna run some 2K11 on 360 hit me up aka DaBigKahuna.

Needless to play relatively sim players...I'm not the "sim nazi" calling out everything like some 17 yr. old punks. But no cheez wiz.

I paid $100 for 2K12 to get it three days early, before you start the obligatory bashing...I buy 2 games a year that's it COD and NBA 2K and I have my finances in order.

Needless to say I'm unhappy about the game "under the hood" after the showiness. And you don't need someone to list things again that have been addressed at nausea about 2K12's shortcomings.

That being said...hit me up 2K11 gamers - peace.

I never try and write-off anything but some do. I'm no fanboy or worshiper of ANY game by any means nor can I defend EVERYTHING flawed in 2K12 as that itself would be totally ridiculous but some do. I'm playing in the same sandbox just like everyone one else but if 2K12 is as bad as people complain, cry or whine that it is why keep torturing yourselves when it's easy to put the game away and wait until it's patched oh wait. . . I forgot. . . it's not so bad afterall

Even though no patch fixes everything I am looking forward to this one.

I feel you about some of those old 2K11 flaws/problems carrying over to 2K12. That should never have happened. The ball was surely dropped and how we'll never know. I can't relate to every player having a post-up game since I'm using a custom roster and very seldom see scrubs posting up but then again I'm not sitting around testing, reporting everything wrong with the game someone post either.

I'm so looking forward to the day we get to use/see some REAL arms to the side boxing out then going up for the rebound play on both sides of the ball which would've made me a very happy camper even though some bigs do manage to post decent boards per game after slider tweaks with custom rosters.

Now this I immediately noticed on release day. I guess it was tweaked because in 2K11 people complained so much about not being able to hit mid range or three point shots, it was so hard figuring out some players release points more than others which I can relate to online in 2K11 even though sometimes it would take almost 3 quarters or make you shy away from shooting with such players high caliber players. I always took it as these players having crappy games and coming on strong a little to late as some often do in real life.

I think a lot of NBA players if given the opportunity can try utilizing post moves if they strongly feel they can score. Just ask Leon Powe who was never considered an offensive threat but would go to the up and under or pump fake after snatching a rebound.

As for all this 2 year cycle BS with EA, I just laughed as they had no excuse as to why they took ten steps backwards even after having the nerve to release an NBA Elite demo. That thing with Andrew Bynum as God at mid court went down as the **** video game fail. Like. . . they took all these 2 year cycles just to drop their candy in the sand yet so many begged to differ. . . yeah right now so much was REALLY wrong that EA had to simple close-up shop and your talking about you hope EA gives 2K a gut punch in 2K14. . . I don't ever see that happening. EA IMO better be glad 2K didn't create an NFL 2K12 or Madden 12 would probably be shut down too. Now I really got a laugh out of that.

Thank you but the minute anyone voices such opinions their immediately considered fanboys. You left out the part about running plays. I like the fact that you can call a play and most can be ran on both sides of the court. That wasn't done in 2K11 and once your play was over your team mates would just stand there dead in the water whereas in 2K12 someone is always moving.

At least that's the case for me as everyone's game-play experience may differ.

That part about Madden is absolutely right, EA Sports makes terrible video games, NFL 2k5 was the best NFL game I ever played but it was the last year that other developers besides EA sports could make an NFL game since EA bought the license. Now EA is trying to get Kevin Durant to sign a deal with them so that his likeness can only appear in EA NBA games, and they're also trying to buy the NBA license so that EA sports will be the exclusive developer of NBA games.

Screw EA sports, anyone who actually wants NBA Elite to come out and compete with NBA 2k also wants EA to develop a complete monopoly over sports video games and the absolute death of anything resembling fun in regards to sports video games.

Boy o boy does he get it...

i also forgot to mention that there is a delay to exploding out of sizeups in 2k12. in 2k11, when you were doing a sizeup and pressed the stick forward, your player would instantly explode forward...in 2k12, on the other hand, it feels like you can't break out of the sizeup...you have to wait for the sizeup animation, and when your player finally does move forward he does an extra hesitation move before moving forward...why is he doing an extra hesitation that i didn't want him to do?

this type of head-scratching, confusing movement is present in all areas of the game.

forgot to mention defense as well - when playing defense your player will often rotate his body sideways and not face the ball handler...defensive locomotion is also strange...players are always automatically shifting their stance, running style, and speed based on where they are on the court and how far they are from their man...how are you supposed to control your man when he keeps automatically speeding up, slowing down, and shifting the way he moves?

also forgot that to mention that the turbo trigger is garbage this year...it appears you can only use it at certain times...sometimes you'll hold turbo to get a speed burst and your player just doesn't speed up...again, unresponsive movement...strange movement choices by 2k this year.

That sum's it up pretty good. 2k12 definetly feels very sluggish compared with last years game.

Yeah that extra hesitation delay move when pressing turbo urks my nerves to the fullest. For instance I'll do an upfake and the defender will bite on it so I go to drive around him to the rim. When I press and hold turbo to speed up the drive I always do some hitch hesitation move that gives defenders time to catch up and get back into the play. This happens way too much and it is not realistic!!! Hope this can be fixed...

I have never stopped playing this gem. I actually needed some time off from the newest crack cocaine known as Skyrim.

Felt right at home with my Year 3 Heat Association. Kemba Walker was my first round pick as I used a created class for year one and a real rookie class for year 2's draft. The kid is pretty good.

This game is a classic already. A joy to still play. I reeled off 3 straight wins 2 at home then the first of a 4 game road swing. Then on the second night of a back to back I get run out of the gym by the Nuggets.

                                I still love you 2K11.
