    NBA 2K12: A-
    NBA 2K11: A

Out of the box, NBA 2K11 was better. 2K12 is awesome with sliders sets, rosters ect ...

NBA 2K11 was a huge step forward, 2K12 not really. But still great.

Re: What would you grade NBA 2k11 Vs. NBA 2K12 in the Overall Game? (So Far)

      2k11: A
      2k12: B-

      Why:
To offer it from a slightly different perspective, I actually think the core game engine of 2k12 is very good. You can tell that with a few tweaks here and there, the gameplay would far outplay 2k11 because of the improved post game, branching options etc... Plus I love the legends; I grew up with the larger-than-life stars of the 90s, and playing with the old teams is a really fun addition for me.

However, the reason I have such a low opinion of 2k12 is because its 2k doing the tweaks. And really, I have to chastise them because frankly, I don't trust them to get it done. The ridiculously high 3 pt ratings across the board, the dirty pump fake before a buzzer beating shot that guarantees a 90% hit rate, the ridiculous My Player trade logic all ruin the game play experience. But it's the fact that these things were incredibly obvious and that you could have picked it up from a single playthrough, and STILL got through to the final version that annoys me. It shows pathetically lazy QA on 2k's part, and far too much of a focus on trying to show off their shiny new features than a dedication to producing a truly great game.

2k11 had its flaws, and of course the patch eventually rounded out the game, but for now, 2k12 has far too many things which disrupt game immersion for me to call it anything more than a slightly above average game.

      Final Verdict:
I still have hope for 2k12 - with some balance changes and tweaks to settings, it could be a phenomenal game. But do I trust 2k to get that done? Maybe 50/50. 2k11 needed a few patches as well, but I get the feeling that 2k was trying much harder for it than 2k12.

If 2k can fix some of the bigger issues, I think I could probably push it up to an A. I was actually kinda expecting more from My Player in terms of game mode depth, and I suppose the failure to meet those expectations prevents me from pushing it any higher than an A, even with a fix.

Re: What would you grade NBA 2k11 Vs. NBA 2K12 in the Overall Game? (So Far)

          NBA 2k11: A
          NBA 2k12: B+

Why?: Well, NBA 2k11 was just unbelievably good. I remember when i first got it, i played it for a solid 19 hours in a row! It made such a leap from NBA 2k10, everyone was just shocked at how good it turned out. However, there was a few problems with it from the start, just like 2k12. The patch is what made 2k11 even better. Let's hope that happens with 2k12 when the main patch comes out (it most likely will).

2k12. Where should i start. It feels a bit, off out of the box. HOWEVER. Once you download Rosters. Download GOOD sliders, you start to appreciate the game better. With Good Sliders, and Good Rosters, the gameplay feels MUCH more SMOOTHER. Way more smoother than the out of the box stuff. They're both really good games, and they both beat each other in different categories.

Gameplay = They're both good, but for you to have really good gameplay for 2k12, you're going to need some Rosters & Sliders, then it starts to get good. However, i'm going to give the edge to 2k11.

Online = 2k11. Without a doubt. Let's hope the next patch fixes 2k12 Online, because quite frankly, it's a pile of **** right now. You can't go through a game without a connection error. The patch should fix it however.

Sound = 2k12 gets the slight edge. It just feels more better overall. The commentary is amazing, crowd is VERY loud in close games. Crowd boo you all game when you're losing by 10+ points.

Graphics = 2k12. 2k12 had a huge overhaul when it came to graphics. Just about EVERY player model has been revamped, even players that isn't relevant like Kwame Brown. The tats are amazing, players actually look they do in real life.

My Player = Eh, this is tough. Haven't really played much MP, but from what i've heard, they're too many bogus trades in 2k12, it's slightly worse than 2k11. However, 2k12 MP did add heaps of new fun things. Hopefully the patch fix the trade logic, then MP would be PERFECT.

Legends = Need i say more? 2k12 is just filled with different legends. I don't even think they're are generic legends either.

          Presentation = 2k12.

Conclusion: They're are a few things that are stopping 2k12 from being the new GOAT.

          - Online Gameplay
          - Tweaks to the regular gameplay.
          - My Player Trade Logic
          - A few bugs here and there

Other than that, it's a really good game.

              Why:
2K continues to focus on the presentation and features so the back of the cover can look pretty and have lots of things to advertise like the Legend challenges and such. They do this and sacrifice the core gameplay. To the casual Ball fan (most of the reviewers) the game is excellent as they play on pro default vs the computer and marvel at the different filters in the challenges, and the commentary. For people like me who actively follow and PLAY basketball, you immediately notice a multitude of problems that are easily noticeable just from playing 1-2 games vs the AI on HOF or superstar. Players are completely overrated, with some people that shot 22-25% from behind the line having a 78 three point rating. WTF? Add to that, that 2k didn't take the time to properly make simulation settings, allowing the three point slider to remain at 50. Meaning that the majority of the NBA will be raining threes all day. Playing My Player (where most of the problems I cited come from because you can't change the sliders), the AI blatantly cheats, having small 6'0 guards do up and unders around big men with ease, having the AI make every buzzer beater shot, having the AI get EVERY offensive rebound (because 2k didn't code for your teammates to ever boxout), and having the AI do layup/dunk animations although YOU AREN"T CLEARLY STANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM BLOCKING THEIR PATH.

              Final Verdict:
The game is most fun playing against users (on the same console, online is a cheesefest) with altered settings, but with a patch to fix bugs and problems like:

              - Having the ball tipped back court and you retrieving it results in 8 sec violation
              - Your AI doesn't boxout
              - AI doesn't react to your defense
              - Up and Under cheese by the computer
              - Changing the simulation settings, or allowing players to adjust sliders in My Player
              - Trade logic
              - Psychic defensive steals
              - AI using guards with poor post move ratings to post up and score nearly 9/10

.....then I would bump the game up to an A-. It will never go up to an A because of the removal of My Player pickpus and Crew games
The reasons for your grading making sense, the grade you gave is completely senseless. Sorry. For all the things you complained about, rightfully so, there is NO WAY this game garners a B+. Were you afraid of what others here would think if you gave a lower grade?

That's not always the case. Some people just want to have a good online game right on the spot. Shouldn't have to bring a friend in to have a good online experience

They added many things to the game that bumped up the rating. The improvements to My Player, improved graphics and presentation, the Legends mode, Create a Legend Mode, uploading videos directly to youtube, NikeiD etc..

With custom rosters and sliders NBA 2K12 is the best sports game I've ever played. It's one of the few sports games I've ever played that has enabled me to edit the game to a near simulation experience without waiting for 4-5 patches to come out.

If you're hoping or waiting for 2K to "get it right" then trade the game in. You're probably never going to get the experience you hoped for from 2K12. This probably applies to the online crowd as well, maybe 2K13 does it for you guys because I don't see there being any chance of developers releasing an updated roster that is configured properly.

If you're willing to spend 1-2 hours of your time to find the right rosters, sliders, and settings for your offline experience then you will be rewarded in the long run.

The game gets a B+ from me. The only things holding it back from an A grade are the issues with charging fouls, sloppy animations on contact shots, lack of customizable sliders within MyPlayer mode, and the many issues thus far with Association mode (some might get patched out though).

                      B-
I'd give last yr a solid A. This yr, I had to tweak stuff for over a month before I started my association. I used YouAlreadyknow's sliders & roster by the way. Now I'm fairly pleased. Still, too many things needed adjusted. Plus there are things I can't fix. The "no crowd" in the 3rd qtr, the odd ball physics, the difficulty using legends in association.

I like the game but I shouldn't have to program the thing just to enjoy it!!

                        TO ME ...

                        - 2k11: A- (after all patches)
                        - 2k12: B- (so far; unpatched)

                        - 2k11 excels after the patchs it has received. The advancements that it showed compared to 2k10 were inmense. Is rightfully so, the GOAT (but just so far).
                        - 2k12 suffers because of the inmense expectations prior its release and due to the usual: initial bugs, online subpar performance, roster inaccuracies and some intentinal paths/restraints chosen by 2k. The advancements showed when compared to 2k11 are subtle, at least to the untrained eye (not me), which is the majority. Then again, 2k12 features, modes, presentation and gameplay present a wider and brighter window of potential to be build upon than its predecessor.

                        - While I expect the majorities of 2k12 issues to be addressed, many wont ... as there are more than a few that are not a direct result of bugs or glitches but of intentional paths taken by 2k ... and those, while still issues for us, wont get tweaked as usual. Due to time constraint, not all issues get resolve anyways.
Then again, to me, all itinerations have tend to be a better "overall" game than its predecessor ... so I expect 2k12 (after patches) to be marginally better than 11 was in the end.

                        - Hopefully, for 13, 2k recognizes the issues we have with some of their chosen paths and act upon ... as well as avoid the recurrence of falling over and over again, in the same omissions, overlooks, bugs, glitches and online issues.

                          2K11: A- unpatched, A patched.
                          2K12: B+ for effort, a B experience for actual big-picture gameplay compared to 2K11.

Could easily be an A to A+ when a plethora of issues are patched and the improvements really shine.

I have never understood this logic, shouldn't the first build of 2k12 be using the final patch build of 2k11 as a base to build from? Launch of 2k12 should be a marked improvement over 2k11, and for everything except online mode, it is. I love the additions to the post game, but hate the subtractions to online, more specifically the subtraction of a stellar admin system for online leagues.

exactly, i dont get that logic either.

how can you take a step backwards? you use what was already succesful and build on it. theyre trying to reinvent the wheel and theres no need. i would have been happy with 2k11 + a few improvements, updates to rosters, added all star weekend, more legend games.

as a side note, they should add more recent "legends" and make the game more present ie. add iversons greatest game, give us a vince carter game from 2000/2001, an old tmac game from like 2002/2003.

paying homage to the past is all good but maybe this could be the next step

I'm thinking it's just the jump from NBA 2K10 to 2K11, but 2K12 doesn't feel as smooth as 2K11. I think that's because of less canned animations. It might be more of a preference, but I don't think they're too bad in moderation, which is what I enjoyed about 2K11. NBA 2K12 almost feels like one of the original versions on the Dreamcast to me. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It's fun. Just different.
After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!
