I've rage quit this game so many times it's unbelievable.
Whatever the technical details of the programming are, it really doesn't make a difference to me. There is obviously some kind of mechanism that occasionally equalizes or rubber-bands the game in progress which gives me the sensation that nothing I do matters at that moment in time.
The end result for me is that every other game or so you feel like you're watching a long cut scene. And yes, this happens a lot in the third quarter, manual coaching adjustments be damned.
It's not every game but it happens often enough that I'm burning out on the game. I play with a very average Knicks squad and beat the Lakers by 35 one night then get crushed by Minnesota a few nights later. Does that happen in real life? Sure, I guess it can but frankly, I don't really see that much of a difference in opponents from game to game. Any team in the game can come out and smoke you by 20 on any night.
I feel like I've crushed way too many elite teams while getting crushed by way too many horrible teams. It's pretty rare that I'll just rack up a routine 10 point win vs. a bad team.
Yes I've played with the sliders a ton (which, let's be honest, gets really silly and boring after awhile) and tried different difficulty levels. Yes, I call time outs to stop momentum. Yes, I adjust the coaching settings during the games. Yes, I mess with double teams and defensive settings. None of these things really seem to solve the larger issue.
End of the day, I'm twisting my controller in frustration and rage quitting way too much. I'd say maybe less than 10% of the games I play come down to the wire in any interesting way. It's been very all or nothing for me this year.
Not having a lot of fun, I'm afraid. It's a bummer.
