Re: Chris Paul to the Knicks

But who wants to rent him though? That's the problem, nobody's going to make an offer for him if they don't believe he'll re-up with them.

If anybody's to be punished, it's not the Knicks, it should be CP3. He's the one that decided he wants to leverage a trade to New York all of a sudden. Teach him a lesson and just make him play out his contract if you're not gonna get crap for him.

You trade him to NY and you're at least going to get Toney Douglas, Chauncey Billups, Landry Fields, Bill Walker maybe, Iman Shumpert maybe, and whatever draft picks they can come up with. At this point in time, they probably won't get a better offer or any young players for him.

oh he's getting dealt this year for sure, I just said he's not going to the Knicks no matter how much he wants too, unless a third team and more players are involved, and trades like that many weeks if not months to prepare.

@ Ruff Ryder, lolwut?! do you have an idea of how trades and teams in the NBA or any professional sports league operate?

So by your logic the Hornets should have CP3 play out his contract to "teach him a lesson" and then watch him walk away without getting anything in return

To make it clear for you even further, they have to trade him in order to get something FOR him as opposed to getting nothing at the end of the season... why do you think Melo was traded mid season
That's not what I'm saying. I was replying in reference to him saying that NO should make it "hard" on the Knicks, as if to punish them if CP3 wants to force a trade there. I was saying the Knicks aren't the ones that should be "punished," they should just make it hard for CP3 to get out. Heck, just wait until the trade deadline, but don't just cave.

I know how trades work, thank you very much. I would just like to see a GM man up and make a player play out his contract if he isn't gonna get ish back instead of folding and scraping the bottom of the Knicks barrel. What do we have left to give up anyway?

While I understand the angry sentiments saying that the Hornets shouldn't give Paul what he wants, they have to keep in mind that playing a game of hardball might make you less attractive to other players down the road so at the end of the day they'll deal him without much fuss.

Wherever he goes it's going to have to include okafor so they can start new. So it will have to be a 3 team deal. Maybe involve cleveland and that 14 million dollar trade exception and move Paul to the Knicks or la

In other words I'd get something, it won't be much. But I'm not going to put him on the knicks. Make him play out the season (costing the knicks time to build chemistry). Make them (the knicks) have to wait and sign him in free agency to non-max money (bc Paul would make more and have a longer deal via a sign & trade). Trade him to a knick rival (raptors/sixers) so that someone like Bayless/Holiday/Lou Williams can learn from him in practice skills wise. Even if those teams knew Paul was leaving and only played him 10min a game.

If your superstar wants to declare war on you while he's on your team, then you can make it miserable for him & the other team (the knicks) too.
There's a few flaws to your logic (someone else might have pointed it out; I did not read any comments after this):

                  1. It would be in NOLA's best interest to trade him before the deadline. They are almost certainly going to lose him to free agency, and if there's a team that would give up some talent for him then the Hornets might as well execute a trade, regardless if they're not getting an even trade for him.

                  2. NOLA is not going to get a trade to a "bum" team or a team that Paul won't resign with long-term. It's why the Boston/Rondo trade won't work if the rumors of Paul not wanting to be in Boston long-term are true. No team is going to give up any player, regardless of skill, if they are not going to get a long-term deal from Paul.

                  3. I don't think Chris Paul is declaring war on his team like Anthony did for the Nuggets. If I were NOLA, I'd be grateful that he asked for a trade before the end of the year, because at this point they can -at the very least- get something for Paul and benefit from losing him.

Not only would the Hornets not get anything in return but they'd also destroy their reputation among players. Making it miserable for Paul is not the answer. Why would anyone want to play for a team that makes their best players miserable?

If the Hornets don't trade him then they have to make a commitment to make it back to the playoffs. Anything less would be an insult to their fans.

To add to the OP, I don't see a way the Knicks can get Paul through trade. They don't have the players and I don't think they have any 1st rounders left (in real life anyway). Fields, Douglas, Shumpert, Billups is probably the best the Knicks can offer.

I dont beIieve CarmeIo Anthony started a "war" with his team. I beIeive he did what he was supposed to do. He kept quiet about any rumors of trades, and kept pIaying hard for the nuggets untiI they traded him. The nuggets knew they wouId Iose him for nothing in the summer, so they did what they feIt was right. Now for new OrIeans, its a different story, Chris PauI has openIy toId his agent he want to go to new york...if thats not a strongarm move, i dont know what is....At Ieast MeIo kept his mouth shut. untiI the very end, the Iockout just ended and he demanded a trade...if that doesnt make you as an owner feeI some sort of way about chris pauI as a pIayer, i dont know what wouId. AIso reaIize, he's been very IoyaI to this franchise since 2005, i mean, they've been nothing without him for years. He probabIy just wants a chance to be on a winning team, and i wouId never fauIt him for that.

Trading Chris PauI to a bum team isn't a smart move to your franchise pIayer. It sends a wrong message out to the rest of the NBA PIayers who couId possibIy want to go there.

Paul can make the most money in nawlins, and they're willing to pay.

Hey, have the superstar around to mentor your young guys.

I say NewO should trade him for the 1yr rental price— rather than hand him to the knicks. Make it hard for em. Hornets do have Jack to take over the point.
So... you are basically saying that the Hornets should risk tanking a franchise worth several hundreds of millions to make their star player miserable for wanting to leave?

I know it's easy to lose touch with this in video games, but remember that in real life, professional sports teams are serious investments for owners and they will make the moves that are deemed best for the health of their franchise. Trading Chris Paul for a horrible contract, scrubs and ****ty draft picks has ZERO benefit for the Hornets. None, whatsoever. So why would management ever go for that? Too show that they'd rather be butthurt and vindictive about Chris Paul leaving than doing what is best for the team and fans? LOL.

You dont understand, sure he wants to get paid but money isnt that big of a factor for Paul.
He WANTS to play for New York because of his best friends Stat and Melo. They've been talking about this since Melo's wedding and even though they wont admit it, they're doing everything they can to get it done. Chris Paul doesnt want to stay in NO because its not where he wants to play.
Im not trying to under sell money because obviously he wants to be paid but I believe STAT and Melo come first.
