Not sure that there's any one universal set that will satisfy all since people have such varying opinions on how the game should play and differing skill levels. I took Czar's advice and turned on Full Playvision and haven't looked back - improved my gameplay experience immensely. I think if you prefer more freestyle play then you should try Pro or All-Star/DEFAULT and tweak from there. I get the feeling a lot of people are more freestyle players but don't want to learn the new playcalling systemHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

With 2K rosters I use mostly base All-Star/SIM sliders except adjusted shot sliders (45/45/47/50) and upping the fatigue and free throw difficulty, clutch off. Also play with the SiM-Project rosters/sliders to mix it up, which are excellent for those more detail-oriented.

I was playing with pro/default with sliders, so I'm gonna default everything and try this again with the patch reapplied.Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Patch 1.04 Available Now - Post Impressions Here (PS3, 360)
I've officially given up on this game.
I'm an Association guy and aside from the AI issues, stat glitches and numerous bugs it's almost a joke to try and progress past one season in this game.
My final straw was more realization that the hotspot glitch STILL hasn't been fixed.
The fact that it is now TWO YEARS and the SAME hotspot bugs that make any rookie, imported or not have nothing but cold spots, which has basically made it so even if I train my new players to shoot 99 they will still brick a large portion of shots and get taken to the woodshed by 80 or even 70 rated shooters.
It's the biggest issue I've had with the game but it's just a glaring one that sums up all my problems with this game.Comment

Just helps you to learn the plays. I know how some develop just from seeing from repetition. But it helps a lot to know how the players will move, spacing, etc. I leave my playcalling to Auto for offense and defense with full playvision and names on; just makes things so much easier. I didn't realize I was breaking plays when playing with the lite playview onHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Is it true that playing with the broadcast cam reduces some of the stuttering and frame rate dips?
When I played the game, I mainly had it on either the 2K cam or Turbo cam (in My Player.)Comment

Defense in a hoops game will never meet expectations of some us hardcore hoop gamers. However, 2K12 inside defense is a joke. I have to ask the question, have the developers played basketball competitively? Getting inside the paint is extremely difficult. Getting past the first defender is tough and then you have to anticipate the collapse of the defense. A lot of contact expected. Inside shots are high % shots but working to get those shots is difficult and takes work. But, in 2K it's extremely easy. Lets take a look.

I have a few more loading up all just from one game but I'm sure we've all seen them.
As far as this play you have Haywood setting a screen for Kidd. Brewer goes above the screen, no problem. Now remember, Brewer is a very solid defender. Now for some reason he just goes crazy and loses Kidd. But there is still a lot of Bulls in the paint. You have Watson and Asik. A 7 foot 260 pound defensive center. Even though Brewer recovers and with 3 Bulls players Kidd easily makes this shot. This happens a lot. Players that have no business getting in the paint just stroll in there no problem like there's a revolving door.
I know this defensive talk has been talked about before but this is a shame for a game that hails itself as ultimate simulation. This may even be worse than 2K9's defense. Inside defense is non-existent. Rotations are poor and even broken at times. Double teams? They're illegal in 2K12 because they're never used by the AI. The list just continues as the defensive logic will leave you scratching your head. They tried to eliminate the issue but having computer have eyes in the back of their head but that is just a poor effort.
For the team to just disappear and not comment on any of these issues is disappointing.Comment

And......I know Spank and Pared will defend them. If you fellas do, that's cool. However, could you post videos refuting what ALTIMUS is saying...? Not just rhetoric etc. There's no real doubt that inside D, post D, double teams etc are completely broken. I've never seen it so poor in a 2K basketball game. It's just weird they released a basketball game with these things missing. Not patching it is really dissapointing.Last edited by Court_vision; 01-28-2012, 05:25 AM.Comment

BTW Altimus.......you can make it hard to get into the paint using sliders.
Basically you'll then get that 'bumping' animation that sends your guard back a foot everytime someone touches him. It's not ideal or realistic, but at least it will stop the easy penetration you got in that video.Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Patch 1.04 Available Now - Post Impressions Here (PS3, 360)
We're closing in on four months post-release for 2K12. I'm sorry the game isn't for some of you (I'm not personally, just showing some empathy). I'm not trying to go overboard defending them although I know that's how some view it. Just fyi I was debating purchasing the necessary equipment to do video capture just to post my game experiences. But then I thought, why spend $$$ trying to prove something when I'll likely hear "No you need to play the game the way I do". To be honest I've never tried to casually stroll into the lane and shoot - at least I don't recall doing so. Nor have I ever tried to score 100pts with Shaq or anyone else. And I'm not going to start now. I loved 2K11, and I love 2K12. I know you want to say the same devs credited with delivering a masterpiece in 2K11 have delivered a near-failure in 2K12. As I've said many times, I give them a lot more credit than that.
There's plenty of full game video floating around, not just the play here or there that some want to highlight an issue. A few people have already done it recently in fact, and I don't recall seeing stuff like in the video posted above. If I post video it will be of an entire game so it can be critiqued properly, not editing video so it only shows the plays that benefit my argument.HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Re: NBA 2K12 Patch 1.04 Available Now - Post Impressions Here (PS3, 360)
Kinda funny to see some of you resorting to the "they're no different than EA" card in an effort to draw a response from them. Don't catch feelings that they aren't responding to your concerns. Seeing all your posts I had decided to jump back to the Madden forum and start complaining about where that game needs to improve, how disappointed I was with it, wanting everyone else to feel the same way I do, etc. But then I remembered - shortly after the second patch when I realized the game wasn't for me, I gave my opinion and traded it in. That was 2 months or so after the game released.

If you're enjoying the game, good for you. Me and Court and some of the other guys aren't here to complain about the game but point out problems which need to be addressed. This also has nothing to do with playing the game a certain way. Sim, not sim, doesn't matter. The defense in this game is broken. I don't need to show a full video to explain it and I don't need to see someone else play to know that it's not.
My main issue is also not my playing style but that of the AI. The AI is the one that strolls in the lane. I'm not playing as Kidd in that video trying to show exploits. That is all AI. Regarding scoring 100 points a game comment... that has nothing to do with that. It's that the AI defense is brain dead to counter it. You can have Boykins guarding Bynum in the post and no help comes. No double, no rotation, nothing. Basketball is a game that concentrates on exploits. You want to exploit match ups, the weakest link, things about the defense you can exploit. Defense's job is to counter the exploits. Send another defender, switch defenders, switch defenses, etc. This doesn't happen and takes away from the game. Why should I feel cheap in the scenario above or feel like I have to pass from the block because the AI can't counter this exploit.
As far as 2K. They don't have to respond as they owe us nothing on the forums. However, when the ball was rolling everyone was here. Now that there are a ton of issues with the core of the game, no one is here. At least last year when there were issues the developers would comment and let us know why they were in and if they were going to be addressed.

I won't even comment on the speed/quickness issue in transition.
Yes, 2K11 was a near masterpiece and yes you're correct, this game is a near failure IMO. For a game that preaches basketball simulation it fails on a lot of aspects of it.Comment

Re: NBA 2K12 Patch 1.04 Available Now - Post Impressions Here (PS3, 360)
Doesn't matter either way, we can agree to disagree. I loved 2K11 despite it's faults, I love 2K12 despite it's faults. Regarding the dev team and it's interaction, I don't remember this time of wine and song where the devs interacted a ton here but maybe it's me. That's always been something 2K's been criticized about (lack of interaction). Look over at the MLB2K forum and you'll see the yearly ritual of people calling them out for not giving out info/hyping them/interacting. A similar thing occurred here before the game released. I can recall many threads before 2K12 released where people were upset that 2K wasn't releasing "promised" Insights or videos on time. Then some of those same people turned around months later and accused 2K of overhyping things when it's the community that collectively wants to be kept in a perpetual state of hype. With any game.
But now some of you are implying they're hiding because they released some abomination of a game in your eyes. I disagree of course as I love the game and it's depth. What do you expect to hear? Should they disagree with you and show you what you're doing wrong? Would you feel better if they acknowledged wrong doing and promised never to let you down again? If they released the *perfect* patch? A few weeks ago some of you were begging for them to respond to the double team issue saying if they only fixed that problem, they'd be happy. Now apparently everything about the defense is wrong, so I guess a patch at that time wouldn't have helped much. I'm not trying to go overboard defending them; I just don't know what good comes of it if people's issues aren't addressed in the manner they want. "When the ball was rolling"... when was that? Last year when EA had to go through the Jesus Bynum stuff 2K wasn't here much from what I remember. I remember thinking it's good they've stayed above the fray for the most part. And that was just last year. In 2010 Beluba was with EA. And I definitely remember people criticizing 2K's lack of participation then. Maybe you're referring to the time before they released patches for 2K11, I don't know.
Either way, I have a hard time believing the same guys responsible for a masterpiece of a game one year essentially forgot everything overnight and delivered a failure the next. Not saying it's impossible. But as some are quick to point out their track record, it just seems unlikely to me.HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

What it seems to be is that have tried to tweak the engine / add new physics and it's gone badly wrong in terms of defense.
No doubt it will be fixed by 2K13. However, as a consumer, a patch now would have been much better.Comment

I have had to stop thinking this way, the last few years it seems that they have started to focus on style over substance, adding new features and failing to rectify recurring problems while creating tons more.Last edited by nova91; 01-28-2012, 10:30 PM.Say "No" to railroaded MC modes.Comment
