It's obvious we're looking for very different things.

I'd be curious for you to post a video of you playing on a higher difficulty. For every point you make about "playing realistically," I am more inclined to feel you do the exact opposite as the difficulty level goes up.

To this day, I have yet to see someone who plays a realistic game of basketball unable to do this on a higher difficulty level without major slider changes limiting the CPU. Why? Because that doesn't lead to success in this game on those difficulty levels.

Ok, I understand where you're coming from and good points but the CPU obviously takes advantage of it's power and rather player like a human, plays like a CPU which is the point I'm getting at. Ex: just played a game 86 Boston (me) be 87 lakers. Ac green, back to the back 17ft away, does a shimmy move and then turns and hits a fadeaway jumper...with 11 sec on the shot clock and mchale all in his face. A few possessions later Byron scoot does the same to mchale but this time on the block. This was during a momentum swing the CPU was trying to get goin. It happens at least once a game. Had either of them did this in a real life ac green wouldve been benched for the remainder of hos career and and scott shot wouldve been thrown into next week.

And yes MOST NBA players such as nick young could drop 30 on a given night. But not in the fashion of how 2k12 does it...with iso one on ones and fade aways and up and unders in traffic. Maybe if it were summer league ball of if it were 2k sport " a mid summer night classic charity" basketball game. But don't insult our intelligence when it comes to home bball is suppose play like...

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your helpful insight. But unless your Joe schmore and actually playing in the NBA it shouldn't be this difficult nor frustrating. Remember, you're controlling an actual NBA team in these games, not palm valley high schools vj team...
I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

I was playing as the Bulls against the 76ers, and I absolutely dominated them throughout the entire first half. Easy game, right? Wrong. The 76ers came back in the third to go on this massive run and ended up winning the quarter 37-17. The onslaught continued in the 4th, and I finally quit out of disgust.

Now, the Celtics DID do something very similar in their game against the Magic recently, but they didn't do it by turning every NBA Joe into Kobe, hitting contested up and unders and getting and-1s every time down. Scrubs were pretending to be Jordan. I'm fine with runs, they're a part of the NBA and they happen very often, I just hate how they're portrayed in the game.

I'm a bit surprised you think that. Hasn't 2K always been the most realistic basketball game out there? Haven't we always been able to play realistically in 2K basketball games despite the difficulty levels? I have been playing 2K for many years and have always played on the highest or next-to-highest difficulty levels, and have always played realistically. And gotten good results, obviously. This is the first time I've heard someone say they can't play realistically on higher difficulty levels. I'm not really sure what's stopping you.

The only difference on higher difficulty levels is you have to be more focused with your play, in order to capitalize on the opportunities you do get. I can't speak for Hall of Fame in 2K12, but for All-Star level, your game has to be very tight to succeed. And even then, you can still lose if the opponent has a hot player or 2, or you start to mess up. You have to really be on your game for 48 minutes. But as for playing realistically, I find that it comes naturally on higher difficulty levels. You have to distribute your shots, take good shots, run plays, hit your best players in their hot zones, etc, to be successful. Those are all realistic attributes that take place in real NBA games.

I'll say this. I can't IMAGINE someone trying to cheese their way to victory on All-Star level or above. I would just find that impossible. The CPU would crush them this year.

Is there even cheese in this year's game? I haven't found anything that can be remotely exploited. But then again I'm not actively looking either. But even plays don't work all the time, there are no "money" go-to moves, other than your typical, realistic chances of running a play or going to your money player and hoping for the best.

I really, really, REALLY wish I could post a video. I play on the 360 and don't have access to recording software, and don't have the technical know-how of how to go about capturing video like that. But trust me, as a diehard sim basketball player, I'd love to shoot a 2 hour video that not only shows the whole game play out, but also breaks down play after play with commentary. I would love to do that, but sadly, it's just not possible at this time, so the best I can do is post some lengthy comments on here and try to break down the game through text as much as I possibly can, and leave the video breakdowns up to Da Czar (God bless that man!)

I feel like you're completely missing the idea of what this year's game brings to the table. In real life, Nick Young WILL isolate you, WILL pull some And-1 type moves on you, and WILL get to the rim and finish with a clever move, IF, IF, IF you give that to him. If you can't stop him because you are playing poor on-ball defense, then yes, he will do all those things. Many times the NBA can turn into a track meet, or turn into something resembling summer league ball, because the players are very, very talented offensively, and sometimes, sometimes, an opponent will fall asleep on the defensive end against talented scorers like a Nick Young.

Have you ever seen the Golden State Warriors under Don Nelson play for those few years? They played like a group of highly skilled rec league players, isolating and dominating you with one-on-one play. Those teams ran like gazelles and blew some games wide open into games of "see who the best one-on-one player is". And opposing teams would fall right into their trap. Teams like the Wizards who have quality scorers are no different. If they can turn it into a rec center type game, they will, and if your defense is poor enough to let them do it, well, you can forget about winning the game. Not only can you forget about winning, they will dominate you and look good doing it. All of a sudden Blatche is looking like an All-Star, and McGee is dominating the paint, and Wall is playing like the best PG in the league. All because you failed on the defensive end.

That's the whole point I'm making, is that it's user input that decides what type of game is being played. If you play lock down defense on guys like Nick Young, guess what? You'll hold them to 8 points on 3 of 11 shooting and completely take them out of the game. But if you let them play their game? It will be a tough game for you. It's up to YOU though. YOU have to assume the defense and do your best to stay in front of those guys.

And once you start doing that, you'll see the game will change. All of a sudden the offenses will become stagnant because they aren't getting penetration to break you down. All of a sudden you will look like a legitimate NBA team on the defensive end. And everything else will fall into place for you. As long as you're playing with focus, effort, and hustle on both ends.

But even with all this said, you can still lose games. That's what is amazing about this year's game. I beat the Celtics and dominated the Nets, then come right back and lose to the Timberwolves. Beasley dropped 40 on me. 40! How did that happen? He just got whatever shot he wanted on my defender. I should have brought the double team, or tried a different defender, or played a zone, but I didn't, I sleepwalked on the defensive end and look what happened. Beas drops 40 on me and the T'Wolves beat me by 10 on their home court.

And you know what? I can look back to some key plays in that game and see exactly where I, the user, went wrong. I gave Martell Webster some wide open 3's in the first quarter. Big no-no. And I know it was my fault because I saw the play developing but still didn't make an effort to switch defenders and close out. I played lazy defense and got burned because of it.

And on Beasley, I jumped for a few pump fakes which gave him easy baskets. I also made mistakes by closing out too far on him and giving him driving lanes, and a few times I completely botched my man defense and just let him drive right by with no contest. Trust me, if you give up those type of plays in the real NBA? Teams are going KILL you. Even the lowly T'Wolves and guys like Michael Beasley will destroy you if you give them the chance. I gave far too many easy buckets and that's what happened, I took an L. And you know what? I take full responsibility for that loss, because I understand it was my fault, and I can see the things I did wrong.

So yes, I think the game portrays real NBA ball very realistically, because it's up to you to play the defense that turns the tide in your favor. If you fail to do that, you will lose. And you have to be able to look at your own game and realize what areas you need to improve in and get better in order to handle the CPU at higher difficulty levels.

I'm 11-1 with the Rockets. My starting 5 is D. Harris, J. Holiday, Iguodala, Horford, and Dalembert. My team plays great D. Allowing 88 ppg so far. My guards are shooting horribly though. They can't hit any jumpers. My one gripe is the CPU jumps through players to get all those offensive rebounds. I lost to the Kings because I was out rebounded by twenty. Tyreke Evans had more offensive rebounds (6) than my entire team.

Fluent, ok smart guy, explain what happens when I play get defense for 23.8 sec of the shot clock and the CPU is SO desperate to score it pushes my player out of the way while I have my hands up or in front out them in the position to take a charge??? Explain why ac green is taking 17ft turnaround fading js with 11-12sec on the shot clock with a hand in his face?? Explain why the ball is morphing through some shot blockers hands so the CPU shooter can score??....
I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

And wouldn't it be realistic NBA ball for players to simply have an off night dispite you defense performance?? It does happen....just not in nba2k12...

I dont know what happened but I find myself quitting the game alot more now because of the ridiculous things that the cpu gets away with

I hate getting big leads because i know once the run is over im going to lose the lead purely knowing the cpu will score and move in way I cannot keep up with no matter what

Its hard to explain but User defense just doesn't translate in those situaitons... sure it can and does happen but how it does its not even a question, you know its going to happen and you can't hit the side of a barn at the same time

First of all, players definitely have off nights. If you view the box score after the game and see who did what, you will see some guys flat out had bad nights. Here's some recent examples from my Association:

Played the Jazz, Paul Milsap had 4 points 7 reb and shot 2-7 from the field.
Played the Hornets, Marco Bellinelli was 0-5 for 0 points in 11 minutes. He's usually good for a couple 3s at least.
Played the Mavs, Jason Terry was 1-8 for 2 points.

Those are all off nights for otherwise reliable scorers.

Next, if a player pushes your guy out of the way while your hands are up, then your hands were up too early when the ball handler was still able to attack. So you were basically standing still doing nothing and the player went around you. What's wrong with that? If you put your hands up, you have to still move with the left stick so you can stay in defensive position if the ball handler moves.

As for taking a charge, I never even try that, so I can't comment. Not sure how it's programmed really, but I haven't seen a charge in 15 games in my association so far.

AC Green hitting midrange shots with defense all over him? I chalk that up to an NBA player just making a tough shot. Happens all the time. If he went 8-10 from that range with the defense on him, maybe you'd have a point, but a few fluke shots from a player who isn't known for a midrange game is no big deal. Shaq even took some shots from midrange once in awhile.

As for balls morphing through hands, I have never seen that. In my experience, the hand/ball detection is actually TOO good, because I get blocked on shots that I didn't think should be blocked. But I haven't seen any magical morphing balls through shot blockers hands. If this does happen I imagine it's pretty rare.

I just don't see any AI cheating that so many people claim this game has. Don't see it at all. I see the exact opposite, a fair game, but a VERY challenging game on higher difficulties. I can always pinpoint my mistakes which led to the CPU scoring. It makes me shake my head, a lot. But I try my best not to give in to frustration and continue to focus and execute my gameplan. If you start stringing bad plays together because you're frustrated/overwhelmed/unfocused, it's game over.

I'm glad you've been able to enjoy the game, but I'm getting pretty tired of seeing my bigs miss gimmies from right under the basket while the CPU is able to constantly make contested up and unders with just about anybody. In my game against the 76ers, Vucevic made an up and under from near the free throw line with a hand in his face. In another game against the Clippers, Billups threw this insane alley-oop with his back to the basket even though it was a half court situation and the paint was crowded.

This has nothing to do with playing good defense in my opinion, it's just plain ludicrous.

Can you explain please how do you use intense D button?....i must put it down when defending the post or simply follow the player with the LS? You said we must have defensive assist slider in the controller menu up to 100, in this way i noticed that my players are often out of position, i lost 8 consecutive matches with the raptors and defensive assist at 100, then i put it down to 50 and followed your defensive tips and get 2 wins allowing only 26 PIP in 3 quarters, but i must say, strange things still happens to the cpu since in some cases can make every kind of shot even with 2 man and 4 hands in his face.

BTW i agree with you, if you play with effort and attention standing in front of your man both defensive and offensive sides begin to be better.

There are 2 key points for me to have high possibilities of wins: 1. Limitate PIP, 2. Limitate turnovers.

I wait an explanation of how to use correctly the intense D button....
