Re: NBA 2k13 Association Mode Improvements

    More on Player Personalities:

Players with a certain personality type should react according to their situation based upon their Minutes, Coach, Teammate personalities, Team Record, & Contract status.

There is already a proven negative implication for not having enough "talent" which is why they fail in the game and in reality.

However, Locker room culture & chemistry is what determines success in the NBA.

Its a science but its a science that can be duplicated by a video game.

    Negatives:

    - Acquiring too many high draft picks with "Entitled personalities" without a strong lockerroom pressence as Head Coach or Star player should cause a team to be a losing team. (Think 2012 Sacramento Kings, Charlotte Bobcats & Washington Wizards)

    - Acquiring too many "Players in contract years" and not giving them a new contract should cause a team to struggle the longer they go without getting new contracts. (Think 2012 Portland TrailBlazers, Dallas Mavericks, & New Jersey Nets)

    - Acquiring too many "Passive personalities" should cause a team to struggle when they face adversity such as a losing streak or injury to a star player because they don't have a legitimate team leader. (Think 2012 Minnesota T'Wolves, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks & Golden State Warriors)

Re: NBA 2k13 Association Mode Improvements

There's a lot of things I would love to see but one huge one is more control over substitution patterns. I would like to maybe jump to different points in the game and say lay out what my lineup would be for halfway through the first, on beginning of the second quarter lineups. I wanted my team setup kind of like the Lakers when one of my two bigs is in the game at all times even though they end up with similar minutes. Currently I pretty much have to handle it manually.

I'd also like the option to set a crunch time lineup. The guys that I want in the game for the last 4-5 minutes. Similar to how the Spurs do with Manu and the Mavs with Terry.

Re: NBA 2k13 Association Mode Improvements

I also know that it would never happen but I'd love there to be some sort of owner mode. Where you are given a certain amount of money to spend on coaches, general managers, and scouts combined with player salaries. Force the player to make the choice where they want to focus their funds in order to build a winning team.

If you spend on GMs when it comes to evaluating trades or offering money to free agents the higher the GM grade the better they are at evaluating. Either that or the better GMs get a slight built in advantage when trading against worse GMs.

For coaches the good ones help your players develop faster and are better at catering the offensive system to the players on the team. Bad coaches force the wrong style or younger players don't develop under them.

For scouts same as GMs except for they are scouting and giving grades on high school players or when scouting players the teams go against.

Re: NBA 2k13 Association Mode Improvements

Ok here would be my improvements in order for the association mode as a guy who's played 6+ seasons of it so far..

          1. Sim Engine

I think that the sim engine is way too inconsistent. A team that has the best overall (99) getting 8 seeds even though they have great chemistry. I'm all right for a few down seasons and a few teams overachieving but I dislike a Thunder team of Rondo, Westbrook, Durant, Ibaka, and Al Jefferson missing the playoffs. They should be a 4 seed or above. Also I play 29 game seasons, and not every team should be 16-13 or 14-15. Teams should win 20+ games. The sim engine isn't terrible but there are faults. Like a Deron/ Dwight Nets team never making the playoffs in the East.

          2. Potential

2K roster makers need to understand their potential rating better. The league shouldnt be all 80s in 5 years. It goes like this...

          95 or above- NBA great
          90- NBA superstar
          85- NBA all star
          80- Borderline all star
          75- Solid rotation player
          70- Decent Bench Player/Possible Starter
          65- End of Rotation player
          60- Benchwarmers

          3. Morale and Chemistry

Here's another thing roster makers should do...make the only players that get upset be players that are actually expressive in real life (Dwight, Bynum, Deron, Melo). So if those players don't get enough playing time or aren't making the playoffs then they can get up to -8 in their overall, hurting their team's chemistry.

Non expressive players shouldn't complain much unless they're an expressive player in real life. They should really only get -2 to their overall and hurt their teams chemistry a little. This makes it more realistic, but still can scare you when signing a troublemaker.

          4. Get rid of stat bugs

Teams playing 82 games when's it a 29 game season. One team leading the league in every statistic by 10, when they really aren't. This stuffs really annoying.

          5. Coaching Carousel/Edit Coaches

Actually allow us to fire coaches/and hire good ones. I should be able to offer an up and coming assistant to be my head coach (thibodeau) or hire a free agent head coach. We should also be able to edit free agent coaches. This way we can make Phil Jackson, Calipari, and others.

          6. MVP award

I think the MVP race should be improved. I don't like Ty Lawson or Tyreke Evans winning MVP just because their team had the best record and they averaged 19 and 7. It should go to a player with a great statistical season and who's team had a great record.

Those would be my six improvements for now as I'm a 30 team controller. Still it's a great association mode.
I will always, always be a Jets fan. But trust me it hurts.

Re: NBA 2k13 Association Mode Improvements

I am a big fan of scouting and talent evaluations, yet it seems overlooked by 2K and the users. 2K should add the following in my opinion.

            1. Playable training camp to start the Association

Give us the ability to form a twenty man roster consisting of undrafted rookies, free agents, and our contract players. The objective would be to run drills for conditioning and skill set improvement, also to familiarize players with the offense and defense. Later we would cut players who aren't fits based on practices, pre-season and so forth.

            2. During the season have meaningful practices

Practices should be about going the last game and preparing for next opponent. Rehabbing injured players working out late free agents signing etc.

            3. In season scouting/NBA.com

We are the scouts, so we should be able to create a target list of possible draft prospects. We should get weekly updates from the scouts (us) about the latest big board, draft stock, college and international stats, strengths, weaknesses, personality types etc. Also there should be a section in nba.com that has draft information like espn.com. This should be a drafting tool for the guys who aren’t into the scouting aspect. Also prospects should have their class freshman, sophomore, Junior, Senior with ages.

            4. Pre-Draft scouting events
I feel this is the most slept on aspect of association, it’s remained the same for years.

The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament is the 64 best NCAA senior draft prospects. They are borderline second rounders looking to improve draft stock. PIT is an 8-team, 12-game tournament held over a four-day period. April 11th to April 14th. (Jimmy Butler, Landry Fields, and Jeremy Lin are some alum)

Draft Combine the interviews, measurements, and athletic testing. The combine is drill based, there are no scrimmages. June 6th to 8th in Chicago.

Pre-Draft Workouts there is usually about 6 players going through various drills in a team’s practice facility. Lottery picks usually workout alone.

ADIDAS Euro Camp is where international prospects show their talents in front of NBA GMs. We should be able to watch and play with up and coming NBA prospects, seeing whose got potential. It’s like the draft combine but with scrimmages and daily culminating all-star games. Not all who attend declare for the draft, so there should be guys who attend the next year.

            5. Draft

After you draft euros you should be able to have a option to keep them overseas “draft and stash”. While you will be updated on their progress by your player scout. Also prospects should be able to withdraw their names from the draft.

            6. Las Vegas Summer League

As the GM we should be able to put together our team. We should be able to scout all games. Stats and evaluations should be kept for training camp reference.

            7. LeBron James Skills Academy, Nike Say No Classic, College Summer League

One of these or another. I just feel we should get a beat on the college talent. Another drill and scrimmage event. Measurements would be taken to see growth in the future.

I just want to see more events and things to do scout, evaluation, and progression wise.

Re: NBA 2k13 Association Mode Improvements

One of the things I would like is progressive injury. I think each player should have a their body broken down into sections. For example the head/neck section, abdomen/chest, right arm/left arm, right leg/left leg.

Over the course of the association, the more the player injures his body the more it will affect him in his career. Perfect example is Greg Oden. His knee injury has pretty much derailed his career. Also the severity of the injury will affect the players career. I think this could add more "what if" stories in your association ala Penny Hardaway, Grant Hill.

Re: NBA 2k13 Association Mode Improvements

I would love to see NBA 2K steal NFL Head Coach 09's free agency and draft format.

The draft format would work the best. For those of you who don't know EA created 60 different draft paths beforehand. This allowed for Busts and Sleepers. They also had Adam Schefter and Todd Mcshay give inputs on draft picks, they'd talk about a QB from Stanford being the next Elway and they'd re-create famous drafts.

Imagine starting your franchise and hearing Chad Ford and Jon Berry talk about the shooting guard from UNC who could be the next MJ, the Nigerian born Center from Houston and the versatile rebounding machine from Auburn.

It would bring more personality to the off-season and make it much more rewarding.

I'd love to be optimistic by the way I see it wishlist threads are really redundant. Especially this late when development is well into full swing. And I just don't think developers take wishlist into account now, and I don't have confidence that 2K knows what they need to do to improve the game

That aside I love your improvements. Just hope 2K takes it into account, which I highly doubt. All there association improvements were probably finalized months ago

Agreed. I would love to see a legit training camp for the first time.

NBA2K11 had it right with the My Player mode version of training camp trying to compete for a roster spot, so adding it to Association Mode would be a huge +

                    2. During the season have meaningful practices

Practices should be about going the last game and preparing for next
opponent. Rehabbing injured players working out late free agents signing etc.
The only problem with practices in Association Mode is that they are meaningless to the course of the next game. Practices would be important if they offered some sort of advantage or an effect on player progression.

Practices are important in basketball, but they aren't viewed as important in the video games.

                    3. In season scouting/NBA.com

Would this be for the generic 2K draft classes?

The 2Kshare/community aspect of draft classes makes it much easier.

                    4. Pre-Draft scouting events

Yes, Yes, Yes. Sign me up for this.

They've been needing to overhaul the current set-up pre-draft for a long time and this would be the perfect solution.

This would probably be a tough add-on for 2K.

                    5. Draft

After you draft euros you should be able to have a option to keep them overseas “draft and stash”. While you will be updated on their progress by your player scout. Also prospects should be able to withdraw their names from the draft.
I would love to see a "draft rights" component added allowing us to stash a player overseas and monitor his development after the season the same way we see the development of our own players.

                    6. Las Vegas Summer League

As the GM we should be able to put together our team. We should be able to scout all games. Stats and evaluations should be kept for training camp reference.
This is by far the #1 thing I want the most as a new feature.

We've been teased by "Summer League" for 2 years now in My Player.

Time to bring it to Association Mode because its an annual tradition for NBA rookies, undrafted free agents, & young players to play in these games.

I mean if we can have "preseason" & "D-League", we should definetly have playable summer league games.

Would love to see that but that would probably be tough to include.

Now it'd be perfect if we still actually had a functional college hoops game to transition prospects to NBA2K

                      Oh boy where to start?
Some things from on top of my mind:
                      • improve the homepage - more stories and add some actual text
                      • improve rookie generation - faces and tattoos are horrible, obscure second names with no recorded commentary for them, broken skills and tendencies.
                      • fix trades - these new trading value stars are not working well. 25 year old SG with 70 ovr gets the same single star as a 35 year old center 60 ovr.
                      • add protected picks and fix teams not valuing their draft picks right before the lottery
                      • rework player roles and player personalities
                      • a lot of presentation tweaks are needed as well, too lazy to list (starting from generated rookies portraits and finishing with lack of commentary phrases further in game)

                        1. I thought we'd see the training camp in 2k12 association at least, your right they had it down in 2k11.

                        2. Practice does need to be player progression oriented like ch2k8.

                        3. Yeah, I was thinking this would be for the downloadable and generic draft classes. You'd compose a list of maybe ten prospects that you'd keep your eye on. With weekly feedback like college hoops 2k8.

                        4. Pre-draft scouting, glad you agree with me they need a complete overhaul. If they add the eurocamp they could probably get more euro fans to.

                        5. Glad you agree I think the draft process is missing the draft rights aspect.

                        6. Summer league like training camp should have been added already.

                        7. I can tell your missing a college hoops game like me, seeing college players play would just be some sort of fill for me.

                            1. I agree with more stories and text for the NBA Home Page. What's the point of always putting up the same stories do it for the Team not just the league.

                            2. Does anyone ever remember playing the old College Hoops even way back in about 2K3 and being able to scout players and watch the games now that's what they should add for the College and International players.

                            3. Even though EA probably own the rights get FIBA involved. Also maybe even think about allowing you to do both European Leagues and NBA Seasons in the same year. Another thing that would be neat would be the ability of having the Olympics or at least world games involved.

                            4. The ability to target prospects and see how their progress goes during the season is a great point. In College Hoops you could do that too and why not in NBA 2K13.

                            5. Classic Teams Mode. Look you need to put in more classic teams is what I think. They basically said the NBA Draft classes which they used to use are too boring so they brought in MJ Magic and so on too alow us to play as guys that we could never even imagine playing as.

                            6. Bring in real coaches to Hire for the association mode. I'm getting tired of seeing fake models of coaches.

                            7. Don't make the MVP award so obvious. The past couple associations I've done LeBron James has one the MVP award.

                            8. Show the actual draft lottery selection show. Remember College Hoops (yes I'm saying it again) when they would do the NCAA tournament show. Well do a draft lottery show and even throw in some highlights.

                            9. Don't let players trade values go down so fast and easy. I remember using the Timberwolves once and just because of two or three bad games Wesley Johnsons stock went out the window.

Last but not least 10. Make sure that theres no black arms in this one and please I mean please add some more excitement to the All-Star break. Before you know it the game will be taken away just like the Pro-Bowl maybe. Look one thing NBA 2K can take a look into is globalizing the game to almost look like what FIFA has been doing for years. Hopefully you guys like some of my suggestions.

They should put a screen, like they did in NCAA Football, where you can see who is currently online in your association and look at their profile, so you know when they were last online and if you can actually play them without requesting a game, and waiting forever to not getting any response.

Get rid of the potential rating.

All it does is script how players progress. Instead make it so players can only really progress in skill categories (shooting/awareness/etcs) and not physical ones (speed/vertical/etc.) Make the progression based on a combination of their actual stats, coaching and some sort of work ethic rating / personality.

This way you can have sleepers and busts happen naturally w/o having to go and manually program them into the game. A highly talented player that never gets the right coaching, doesn't really perform and has a poor work ethic would bust. Would also make coaching much more important.

Make sure draft classes / sports games are in line with the original rosters.

So that after 5+ years in association the avg player OVR and avg team OVR match the out of the box default ratings. For some reason sports games constantly neglect this.

Better contract decisions by CPU teams. Better contracts in general.

Signing your #3 PF to 5 year expensive deals = dumb. Also a lot of the time things get messed up so badly that no team has money to sign the top tier FAs. Which often leads to top players getting left in FA.
