    Re: cpu ever score legitimately?

Yesterday, I saw what you guys were talking about. Playing on superstar with the sim world sliders, I guess I'll have to change, and I was guarding cp3 with Steve Nash played great D (it was an end of the shot clock type of shot). Gortat came and helped, so Steve and gortat both contested the shot and it went in. I just turned the game off. First quarter too. It felt like pre patched 2k12. I was also using the playoffs sim-world roster.

Until I asked myself why the hell I was purposely choosing to frustrate myself. Outside of trying to get difficulty-based achievements, it makes no sense to not tune [any game] to your liking.

You feel cheated by the cpu, but feel it's "unfair" to adjust/tweak what the cpu is capable of to make for a less frustrating experience...? It's not like the cpu doesn't know what you're doing at any given time. It has to be dumbed down in such a way to give you illusion it doesn't.
I remember when this game first dropped, and I was so upset at the super CPU play. You and several others kept saying to adjust sliders, adjust sliders. I was too infuriated with how the game played out of the box to bother with sliders.

I eventually traded the game back in for NBA 2K11. I played NBA 2K11 for a few weeks, but I was dissatisfied with how it played after getting used to some of the improvements made in 2K12. So I went and traded in NBA 2K11 and bought 2K12 again LOL.

I told myself, "This is it. You're going to do whatever you can to enjoy this game because you will not go back to the store and do another swap!"

So I started analyzing the CPU closer, trying to figure out exactly what advantages they were having over me. (I'm one of those guys who refuses to play on a lower difficulty setting, so I play on Superstar.) What I noticed is that the CPU always knew where the ball was even if they couldn't see it. I looked at the sliders and decided that Offensive and Defensive Awareness were the culprits. So I turned both of those sliders down to 10.

After doing that, I noticed immediately that the CPU played more human like at both ends of the floor. They were only reacting to the ball when they could see it most cases. I was satisfied with that. However, I noticed other areas of concern.

For example, I hated how the CPU was able to change direction with the ball with no momentum or foot planting required. This was the reason why the CPU could penetrate at will, it seems, despite my best defensive efforts. I decided to tune down Ball Handling and Quickness to 10. What I notice now is that players with greater speed can actually win those matchups, and the CPU has to actually work now to get penetration. Of course, this also cuts down on those ridiculous up and under buckets that was happening so frequently.

I also turned down other sliders, such as Vertical, Stamina, Durability, Hustle, Defensive Rebounding, and Consistency, all the way down to zero. This allows for individual player attributes to play out and not scripts. I left Fatigue Rate, Injury Frequency, and Injury Severity at default, and every other attribute slider set to 10. I'm not able to take advantages of mismatches versus the CPU. Let the CPU put a weaker, slower defender on Durant, for example. They pay every time. That wasn't happening on default Superstar.

I have all of the offensive sliders set to 47, and I'm happy with the results there. And both of the Contact sliders under Defense are set to 100. I'm also one of those people who have to have the CPU and Human sliders at the same value.

What I love the most is that the game is competitive without any extracurricular activities from the CPU. Everything comes down to matchups, just like in real life.
I don't know how these changes would work for others, but it literally saved the game for me. I'm so satisfied now that I am even willing to forgo NBA 2K13 and stay with 2K12 for an additional year, providing NBA 2K13 doesn't deliver for whatever reason.

So, I said all of that to say this: Cosign, Spankdatazz. Cosign.

I really think 2k share and the ability to edit rosters was the biggest feature in 2k12. Those features were in 2k11 also but 2k11 it wasn't necessary because they gave us pre-adjusted slider sets. I think the beautiful thing about sliders is you can personalize the gameplay to your liking. If you love just blowing the cpu out, you can make the game like that. If you want a realistic competitive game, you can create that. As i've stated before I had a pride about myself so I never touched the sliders or ratings. But like spank said "why frustrate myself"? 2k12 out of the box was so poorly done we didn't have a choice. The game feels almost perfect to me now that I've personalized it. Once you get rid of the "extra stuff" the cpu does this game is very realistic and is better than 2k11 imo.

That's all fine and dandy but the problem with that is that unless you're on PC, you can't edit sliders in My Player. I think that's where most 2K players' concerns are focused anyway. But even then, as great as sliders are, they can't totally fix the game. Some things wrong with the game are just a result of bad programming. Lots of others are fixable though.

Long story short, No. Cpu wouldnt be even close unless its bs plays. Up and unders, shot clock magic under 5 seconds(little speed boost they get) etc.

If it wasnt for the above I would be blowing the cpu out 75% of the time. The only teams I think play close to legit is Dallas, Miami, Okc, Spurs and lakers.

Yea i know what you mean. I get pissed cause the CPU shoots 60% every game. Doesn't matter what team I'm playing against. I think it has alot to do with the ratings as well though. There's wayyy too many players with high 3 point ratings. Ramon Sessions with an 80? Really? When has he every been a 3 point threat? There's tons more but thats the only player off the top of my head.

                Re: cpu ever score legitimately?

you people are crazy playing ANY video game on levels higher than normal. Personally higher levels are not designed to play the way the developers created it to IMO. The computer doesn't get smarter on higher levels, the game just gets HARDER, which means it gets more FAKE.

If the game is easy on pro, then the best thing to do is take away from the way that "YOU" play the game. Like me, i dont use the steal button at all, i let the AI players do it for me. Also i keep the game very basic. I never use plays against the AI....the best thing to do is make the game harder FROM YOUR END.....dont try to get the AI to play YOUR way, because you did not develop the game.

"sim is not created, SIM is what you make it"......this thinking comes from experience & time. It works for any sports game you play

YOU CANT CHANGE A GAMES ENGINE

Offline this game is great...im in a never ending series with 89 lakers vs celtics and kereem sucks lol..

I think you mean the 87 lakers. And Kareem, even on the 87 team is on of the most unstoppable players in the game. His skyhook is unblockable and can be triggered on command.

You just don't know how to use him. Kareem is a beast in 2k12. It's unfair actually. lol

you know what, i kinda like not knowing how to do moves AT WILL. When i do his hook shots, it kinda just happens and that keeps thing not repetitive, and im always amazed when i see it happen. Lately i have had some good games with kareem, but magic is still the guy who creates for everyone...i swear man i now understand who magic was for his team and how he contributes his talents...

Boston vs lakers....wow, i cant stop playing that legends game.

question: can we have that same old background presetation on "quick play" options???

FINALLY!! SOMEBODY HAS THE BALLS TO SAY IT...(2K really over hyped the CPU for myPLAYER mode)

I mean, I just started so my PG's overall is only 67 and stands barely 6ft. tall but...I be shutting down defenders ( I ain't bragging, know why?). Cause soon as my lil f*cking PG bust his Rookie A** for 20 seconds some random **** for the Cav's name Gee? drops down a Buzzer Beater for a daaam 3. SMDH it's like UNLESS you Picking off Passes or luckily blocking shots!!??...The CPU's bound to score...PERIOD. BUT...(the irony is that) this rare feat only occurs in myPLAYER MODE, which is only the BEST DAMN MODE ON THE GAME. Seriously!! it about the only thing that makes this game worth playing over MADDEN 12 which I love but got sick of the repetitive commentary glitches (I mean seriously) How many damn times we gotta sit back in hear Chris Collinsworth at EVVVERY start of the game say.."Well Home Field Advantage is..." (B*TCH ITS THE DAMN PRO BOWL!!, THERE IS NO HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE)

I only play My Player mode and the Slider Solution people keep breaking out doesn't really do me any good. Unless I want to start a new file all the time just to make minor tweaks to the sliders until I'm satisfied.

But yeah, it feels like I'm getting cheated when the CPU scores sometimes. But I've gotten over that. Just hope it all gets remedied in the next installment.

You can ONLY adjust the (user) sliders for myPLAYER MODE on PS3 and most of them work effectively except like fouls (they gon call that sh*t regardless). from someone who loves madden more then anygame other then the first warcraft, its not as good as 2k when it comes to players playing like they do IRL i mean they couldnt get the SIM stats for QBs to work right cant say if seen LBJ shoot 30% for the year but iv seen manning go 50-55% passing for years and that good for a qb when it comes sim stats
