Im late to post, but my thoughts

    postives:
    Physics
--Animation (especially on shots, the intuitive shot selection by the A.I. is damn near perfect, unlike 2k12)
--Physicality (the whistle doesnt blow for every stupid thing this time around, which i like)
--Dribble 'tricks' use stamina (its a nice little nuance that i absolutely love)
--Check and balance system (everything you do in the game CAN be countered it seems, so knowing basketball does actually play into success)
--Player physique (lebron feels like a super fast tank on the break, if westbrook gets a step on you hes getting past you and whatever contact you put in his path, dwayne wade is slippery and deceptive going through traffic)

    Negatives:
--Not sure i like some of the Jay Z 'touches' (some of the background stuff seems like it should be for knockout kings or Fight Night, I like the 2k12 presentation overall, it had a NBA Presenation vibe to it, this presentation looks confused, like it wants to be an NBA game but is being bogged down by a video game design.
--The Soundtrack (its not even the fact that most of the tracks are seemingly Rap tracks, im not a huge fan of Rap music but its not like i hate terribly, though i know there will be people who do. What i dislike is that most of the songs are stuff played on the radio, and i sorta enjoy hearing songs and bands ive never heard of. I havent heard the whole ost, but the only non rap songs i heard was Colplay viva lavida, around the world, and one other rock track which was refreshing since i didnt know the artist...though song was mediocre at best

--Player models (some players are done really well, like wade. Some are done weird. Bosh looks alright at times, and then at other times he looks deformed. Kevin Durant almost looks generic, westbrook looks fine. Its really more noticeable in replays though. The bulky characters might bother some people, but i like the added muscle definition to players, and i think it helps the physics engine out.)

--Defensive Reaction (sometimes turning around to face the ball is a chore. Applying a double team takes a second longer than it should. If the ball is in the post and i become a guard to help try to secure a rebound, and the ball is kicked out to my assignment, i have to wait till my guard turns around before i can contest, and in that amount of time the cpu is already knocking down the shot. Id like it more that if you hold LT(aggressive defense) then your player should automatically pay attention to the ball.

Overall though i really really like the demo....i cant wait to screw around with the sliders

Much like in 2k12, speed bursts in the half court almost seem automatic, where your player will speed up on his own but not when you pressed the trigger.
Yes yes and yes! I spoke about this to devs too! I teach my kids every day about exploding out of triple threat and creating space. It drives me crazy when Im jab stepping in triple threat, create a bit of space and then I want to attack it, but when I hit turbo to now attack a area the defensive player has already recovered to and is now not open all because the turbo is so unresponsive.

This is exactly how I use shot button and shot stick, and this demo has me all sorts of mixed up. Keeping an open mind still, but I really don't feel like I need the dribble stick for all 15 players on my team, for example, and would rather have the functionality of the shot stick back.

Going to keep plugging away at it though. Got a week to decide.

Even though it's probably on the lowest difficulty, I'd be lying if I said I didn't have fun making this stat line with J Shuttlesworth

I like the Demo. It's much more polished and smooth. I'm getting used to the control stick. All I seemed to be able to do is spin moves. I can't really get as mucn control as I'd like. I also don't like the presentation style. It's looks too gawdy for me. It takes the realistc presentation look away from the game. I don't like it at all. The gameply itself is great though. Anyone else having trouble with crossovers and really having control of the ball?? I'm sure it's just cuz I suck. lol

I can't see the harden dunk because I'm on my phone. And I agree that sometimes the dunks in half court sets are ridiculous but its a video game. The online sliders are gonna cater to the casual fan and thats what they like. I didn't see the dunk but Harden actually has an insane vertical. I forgot the number but he can throw it down. The reason why we don't see it is because that's not his game. He's more of a soft around the rim guy than a scrapper like russ who will slam on you if he can. So as you control Okc and Miami, if you see a sick dunk in hardens case, its not that he can't throw it down. And you are controlling him so you should be able to do what you want with him just like people post up with people who don't post up. Just because they dont do it in real life doesnt mean they cant do it.

I don't understand why everyone is so upset about the new controls. If you don't want to use the right stick to do crossovers, then don't. It's not like you have to cross over every single time you catch the rock.

I just think they should have found a way to reverse the default, even though we have options. The developers agree that this game is also a great learning tool... and right now you're teaching "students" that it's all about crazy dribbling right off the bat.
In the controls thread Mike said we will all see the bigger picture in 14 and it will all make sense. So, maybe we are missing something. I do think its way better than the iso motion stuff and I love having the ability if I want to string together moves to do so. It is pretty responsive as well. To me im still trying to deal with moving the left stick and the right stick at the same time to get the result I want. I thought I was coordinated until now! LOL! Thats just practice time though.

Anyways, I think they could have implemented everything that they wanted to do this year and still had the right stick dribbling, but just tied it into the modifier is all. I for years had always heard the argument about the casual gamer and trying to appeal to both the sim gamer and casual gamer. For example: I was a fan of post moves in 2k11. I took the time to learn them all and i was doing moves in my online league guys didnt have a clue how to pull off. Then in 2k12 they dumbed it down IMO for the casual gamer.

I had brought up a better play calling system once again IMO for more organization within play books which by adding 1 extra button press eliminated 3-4 button presses in the long haul. I was told that it wouldn't work because of the casual gamer. I said it would because it would be better for the casual gamer as he would get the result he wanted from what he was doing rather than a crapshoot when calling a play.

My point is that this system seems to be contradicting to what I have heard for the last 2-3 years. Its a big and bold move, innovative, and creative no doubt. For the casual gamer it doesnt make sense though. Shoot, it doesn't even make sense to some of us SIM gamers either. 1 simple change with the modifier + right stick imo changes all that.

Two small additions I'm liking thus far:

                        1. When defending a player on the wing looking to pass the ball into the post, it seems the defender has less spring and reach than last year. In 2K12, it was often possible to lure the wing to attempt a post entry, only to slide back, jump, and deflect that entry. That does not appear to be as simple this year.

                        2. When defender an inbounds pass (on ball), again, the defender's hands and arms don't seem capable of being as disruptive. At this point, it looks like it might cut down on the ability to deflect the pass right out of the inbounder's hands, often leading the ball to deflect off their body and out of bounds.

One thing I feel might be missing at this point:

                        1. The quick inbound after an opponent scores. I feel like I've tried to push tempo after made baskets but there's no more "hustle the ball back in" animation from what I've seen.

Clearly they made this more like Live this year...Not feeling it at all...Defense iand the bounce pass are the only improvements i like but the right stick is clunky and feels just like live did with ridiculous crossovers

Anybody here have this issue where you're playing great D staying in front of your man then all of the sudden he does a dribble move where you would end up behind him? It's like a weird warp effect where I'm all of the sudden out of position and the guy will just drive by you...

                              My impressions:

                              PROS
-Collisions are fantastic, players falling all over the place, I love it
-Animations - tons of new realistic animations
-Flop button I think is an awesome addition, haven't pulled off a successful one yet
-Soundtrack for me personally is great
-AI is greatly improved, this is the most important improvement for me
-There are lots of the "little things" added once again that keep the game fresh and always something to look forward to
-Greater differentiation between big men / slashers / shooter / strength differences. You really have to know your personnel!
-Graphics seem slightly improved to me
-Floaters are revamped and actually effective
-CPU much better at using picks to attack and create opportunities

                              CONS
-Maybe it's the difficulty but offense seems overpowered
-LeBron is seriously unstoppable, dunks over everybody
-I've seen people raving about on-ball defense, but I have to disagree.. shuffling is deadly slow, defensive shuffling inputs seems slow/delayed to me, if a player dribbles sideways outside the 3 point line they will probably lose you
                              -Too many self-alley-oops
-lots of these can probably be adjusted with sliders / settings!
                              -Gold menus
-Some player faces took a step backwards (I'm looking at you KD, LBJ)

I have an idea where that is... but I still don't like it for THIS year. We are in agreement there.

I do think it does make it more slanted for the casual gamer though because it's easy to make players look good and flashy. You don't really go anywhere (but in most cases it seems like it can be abused) and draws the oohs and ahhs from everyone, "sim-heads" included. But I wanted the game to have more "depth" in the control area and while it has that now, I guess I also didn't want it too accessible. Players should have to learn the complexities of a system, much like Fifa's RS dribbling.
