You know... for all the complaints we always see about "basketball fundamentals" it's funny to me how these impression threads are always littered with "hit him the crossover" or "threw it down HARD."

Yes - those basketball fundamentals are really what people see right off the bat, eh?

I'm torn on the decision to have the dribbling as the default. With so many people accustomed to the shot stick, to make it a SECONDARY function now as the default baffles me. It's their bread and butter for years and now it plays second fiddle.

I tried to have an open mind about this but I find myself yearning for the option to change the default control to the SS and have the dribbles secondary. [Edit - Yes I know you can change this in the full game. A great choice at least.] This is something I never agreed with in Live's gameplay direction - just because dribbling happens at a more frequent rate doesn't mean it should be easily done. I see the same thing here although the dev. team has done a much better job of having more contact with the ball handler. I still see this being a problem (at least on defaults) of an inexperienced user taking a star and flicking the stick until they are all the way on the paint. I was able to do this on a few occasions and the Lebron, DWade, Westbrook and Durant all easily got to the rim.

Still excited for the game... but in the hopes to spotlight the "control stick" for dribbling and go against my design (which was shot stick first, LT opens up dribbling) this game opens up more to the casuals. A good thing for sales - accessibility is huge... but not a good thing for those that want the skilled players who learn the depth of the controls stand out.

Thank You Pared....it seems this game has gone somewhat the arcade route...I hope the retail version is different buyt im not ready to play a game where every play is crossover , spin , dunk...Horrible decision by 2k

I don't know, anyone I've seen throw the stick back and forth uncontrollably hasn't had much success, I've gotten a lot of steals watching players attempting to go crazy with it.... I don't get the feeling that the dribble controls are overpowered at all....they could do a lot of this same stuff with isomotion honestly...so as long as it had a counter I'm not too concerned,.

But I wanted the game to have more "depth" in the control area and while it has that now, I guess I also didn't want it too accessible. Players should have to learn the complexities of a system, much like Fifa's RS dribbling.

I completely agree! It just needs to make sense though too...

Just so you know - I'm not aboard that "arcade" train just yet. We're playing a demo that is most likely on Pro Default.

I usually play the game on All Star sim against the computer so the jury is still out what the different difficulty levels offer.

anyone an flick the stick and do something but only the real nice heads can pull off smart combinations to set up a good shot.

Yes but if they can score, that's all they really care about.

There aren't too many people that can make the game look pretty all the time. Even those that can do some silly things at times. But the point is if online is on Pro Default and this what we have to "deal with" then "flicking the stick" won't take too much skill.

I can't say that with 100% certainty but it's definitely on default. I've played a good amount of ranked games and it's certainly not on anything else.

I am loving the demo but what ALMOST kills it for me is that one drunk guy "woohoo!" in the crowd...I can't stand that...why is it still there?

This sounds like someone is mad they cant cheese.

Um ... really? You got that I'm mad that I can't cheese from my post? First of all I barely play online because of all the cheesers I encounter. Second, when I play sports video games, I like to emulate what the sport actually plays like. I was saying that 2K11 played more REALISTIC, which is a GOOD thing. If anything, 2k13 could lend itself to more cheesing by people waggling the right stick frantically until the player/CPU bites on a hesitation/crossover. So yeahhhh... if you can just clarify, that would be greaaaat....

Online ranked matches in 2k12 were either set to pro or Allstar difficulty. I don't think anything ever "officially" was released from 2k about this.....


Edit: I anyways thought it was set to all star?

I've heard pausing the game during the demo does not allow the user to un-pause. I don't know for sure though.
