Re: NBA 2K13 Demo Available Now For 360 and PS3, Post Impressions Here
quick impressions:
+really nice to be able to pull off some good moves once you get the hang of it
+fast break spacing is much improved
+defense is a lot better
-rebounding is pretty poor overall. not a lot of boxing out and it just feels stale.
-players definitely feel sluggish on default
-hop step and spin dunk are really easy to abuse.Comment

WOW you gave up MW3 and Need for Speed? That's a bit much just to get one game although I believe that NBA 2K13 will be great. Like others have said, the folks at gamestop sure know how to rip people off.Originally posted by jim416You are the 2k Police. :)Comment

getting used to the contextual "auto-controls". not bad once you get a feel for how it works.
the one nagging thing that still really bothering me is all of the stopping catch animations. every time i pass to a cutting teammate, he stops to catch the ball...instead of continuing his path to the hoop. this issue is really annoying me. why would a cutter with a wide open path to the hoop just stop in his tracks as he catches the ball? he should catch in stride and continue to the hoop for the layup/dunk.Last edited by blues rocker; 09-26-2012, 06:39 PM.Comment

Don't play them. All I play is NBA 2K. The MW3 was a Christmas gift that collected dust, and the Need For Speed was a game included with my new PS3 I bought off eBay.Comment

My Impresssons:
Upon turning on the game, it seemed kind of dry, nothing to jump out at you, like 2k12. But maybe its because its a demo and they didn't add all the bells and whistles, or it could be the lack of menus that makes it look so plain.
Starting the Game:
Imediately I wa nervous when they showed the starting line ups, the lack of definition to the character pictures did feel like a "large" stepback as mentioned by others in this forum.
The start of the game felt kind of lame as well, in 2k12 you'd have the Star do his ceremonial intro (like Lebron and his chalk, which he does here) and then the other stars of the home team would walk around to the opposing team and shake there hands. But in 2k13, Bron throws up his chalk, and then there is the tip off that's it.
Gameplay:
I've heard complaining around getting used to the shot stick, but to me gameplay seems pretty simple, if you get a seem and make some space, you are going to score, it was very easy to execute whatever I wanted to (could have been because of the mode). The think I LOVED is that the contact dunk animations aren't pre-determined. Before if the defender was in a certain position, not even attempting to block the dunk, they would be sucked into a contact dunk animation, and if the game said "Player 1 is here and Player 2 is here, so actuate this animation".
Dunking on peeps seems more active to the position of the defender and how he reacts, I've had times where the defender was under the court, didn't react to jump and my player offensive player did a dunk, but moved his body slightly to try to avoid contact. It seems more reactive and real to the situation.
Defense feels meh to me, I guess its what people wanted, and its right, for example with Chalmers I can't stop Westbrook no matter how hard I tried one on one, I feel like if I stop him, its because the person controlling him didn't execute well enough. Which in some situatoins can be considered real, we saw how he exploded in the finals even against Wade.
Bottom like I didn't get that wow feeling I wanted maybe because all that is missing, and with no comentary it really seems plain and dead, I need some Steve Kerr.
Before the start of the game with all the gold and stuff and even some of the menus that we've seen in the videos of players stats and Icons, looks too Arcadish to me, for example when you see those menus and all the Gold Glammer you don't think NBA Basketball, its more like NBA Ballers.Comment

Negatives, players still don't grab the ball while in the the air, though the ball is in plain sight, and still, just like in 2K12, a lot of times when I press jump while wanting to attempt to grap a rebound, the game is non-responsiveLast edited by sleepyshotta; 09-26-2012, 06:36 PM.My YouTube page http://www.youtube.com/user/SleepyNate718/videosComment

Re: NBA 2K13 Demo Available Now For 360 and PS3, Post Impressions Here
yeah, they really need to fix that. i've missed out on so many inside shots due to this. i'll have a teammate with a wide open lane, he cuts, i'm expecting an easy layup or dunk, then he just stops in his tracks as he catches the ball. this is the source of many WTF moments. this is the one blatant "how did they not fix this?" issue that's sticking out. most of the other issues are minor for me, but this one sticks out like a sore thumb.Last edited by blues rocker; 09-26-2012, 06:37 PM.Comment

I found this in other site. I guess LeBron or Wade got fire or something, but I'm still trying to figure out how they took a point from OKC, lol
I've played around 10-12 quarters and didn't see anything like it. Did it happened to anyone else?Comment

Re: NBA 2K13 Demo Available Now For 360 and PS3, Post Impressions Here
i think the difficult thing about the player movement right now is that it's somewhat unpredictable due to all the added contextual animations going on...it makes it a bit harder to predict how your player will move...the game seemed to take on this "variable animation" quality in 2k12.
Say what you will about the player movement in 2k11, but what made the control feel good was consistency. There was less variety to the animations, so you always knew how your player would move...it was simpler and a thus bit easier to grasp.
anyway, i don't necessarily think their control philosophy is a bad thing, but it's going to take some getting used to. as gamers we've been trained that when you do specific motion on your controller, you get a specific movement from the character. we have been trained that every time you do that motion, you will get the same exact animation...now I feel like my player kind of has a mind of his own. i still need to adjust.
I tried less pushing my guy where I wanted and instead following his momentum and I saw some really nice things under the basket or while driving to the basket.
Another thing that the change in control layout has done is mistakenly help me make better moves while driving before attempting a layup. I find myself wanting to hit the shot stick to shoot and instead finding a way around a close defender before I hit L2 to finish the play.
I'm still adjusting. I still don't really like that I don't feel I have as much control of what a guy does when I push him forward, but I'll see.
It's possible I may just need to wait a bit and get the urge when everyone else is talking about the game."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: NBA 2K13 Demo Available Now For 360 and PS3, Post Impressions Here
Finally got my hands on this.
Beau-ti-ful!
It's mad smoove! I couldn't dribble to save my life first 3 games but I picked it up.
PNR's are good, seems like for us sim ballers who actually call plays, when we want to freelance it's going to be a bit easier.. Remember last year when you bought the ball up the court without calling a play, you seen minimal movement and basically had to iso? Not this year. Defense is there this year finally we have the tools to counter on the perimeter. Post defense still needs works tho, but it is decent.
I like the new dribble controls. Why would I switch back? It's like taking a stepback. Also it's a challenge to learn a whole new control system, plus it's combined with the shot stick dopeeeee. You really have to follow momentum of your player. If you have no idea how to string together moves in real life, or how to string together moves in 2K12 you're going to have a difficult time. Because of the momentum you have to dribble the ball with realistic chain moves.
Finally seen the menus live in person. Is it NBA like? No. But I don't see a problem, it's different. But next year they should definitely keep the TV broadcast theme. Why can't they get NBA TV?
I also love the contact in the paint. As people mentioned above the main problem is on the PnR when you have the roll man catch the ball he stops his momentum towards the basket and gives the defense time to recover. Other then that no major problems I see.
It's just killing me that I can't call plays yet. But thanks to the improved free lance I'm seeing little brush screens and pin downs.Add me om PSN for a good game of basketball!
