      Re: NBA 2K13 Advanced Controls

I'm getting a hang of the controls, but like I've seen, I need to lay off the right stick when moving. And I noticed when I wanna drive to the hoop sometimes the dribble move doesn't launch me like the hesitation. any tips on that guys? Do I use turbo and LS towards the hoop to drive/launch?

Is there any drawback to staying with the old controls? Are there things you won't be able to do?

Personally, I never liked the dribble stick with Live and don't feel like switching unless I'll be missing out on certain moves. the pulling of the trigger seems counter-intuitive to me.

Hey, Beluba. i've got a question kind of related to this - it's about the icon lead pass. the versatility of the lead pass has been greatly reduced after 2k11. you can no longer use it to make a stationary receiver move or cut - ever since 2k12, the lead pass only works to BARELY redirect a receiver who is already moving. what i liked about the lead passing in 2k11 was that you could make stationary receivers move and cut to open areas if they didn't move there on their own. the removal of this function is pretty frustrating to me - a lot of times i'll see an opening and want to lead my teammate to cut through it, so i'll try to lead him there like in 2k11, but instead he just stands in place when i pass to him...using the lead pass doesn't even change the placement of the pass if the receiver is standing still.

the lead pass in 2k11 was overpowered because it made stationary receivers launch forward too quickly, but i would still like the ability move them around in a realistic way with lead pass. what was the reasoning for removing this functionality from the lead pass? was it a technical issue, or was it viewed as an exploit that needed to be removed? if it was done in a more realistic way, i don't see it as an exploit at all. it made the passing game a lot more fun...it gave you a lot more control over your offense and allowed you to create better passing angles. the improved teammate AI helps your teammates to make cuts on their own, but there are still many times when they fail to move to open areas...in these situations the old lead pass functionality would help greatly. please bring it back.

Are you guys using turbo when driving? And are you performing dribble moves while using turbo?

I am sensing the "automatic" feeling you are talking about as well. But I've done it with Russ West, Wade and Bron only. I guess it's fine as long as not everyone has this ability of automatically being sucked forward against a defender.

I only use Turbo when I already got pass the defender or when I have a clear lane for a dunk.

I try not to use the Turbo when doing dribble moves. Just a minimal RS variation as well but variation of "change direction" using the LS.

I can break down my defender im just having trouble getting that explosive first step/launch towards the hoop that cpu westbrook does to me all day. Any tips? Cant wait for Da Czar to come out with his tutorial vids haha

I think once you have that opening after juking the defender, the explosiveness comes from turbo button. I think Beluba mentioned it earlier in this thread. The turbo button is no longer only for long sprints, but used to get that explosion out of stand still (makes sense to me, since now you have 2 options on how fast you want to speed up).

How are you guys dealing with the conflicts between both sticks while dribbling?

example u can do crossovers/spins with both sticks, and trying to drive to the hoop at a different angle sometimes does a move when you don't want it to

Also, i switched to Oklahoma for the first time yesterday and trying to use the dribble stick on the other side of the court is like a whole new ball game in using the controls

below is the quote from my earlier post in this tread - it should clear up the issue you're talking about:

this is what made it click for me - the right stick dribbling is really best when used only for "stand-still sizeups". the right stick should mostly be thought of as the "sizeup stick". once you are moving, it is best to stay away from the right stick, because the left stick dribble moves and right stick dribble moves will be fighting each other.

what i had to understand was that the player automatically does crossovers, stepbacks, spins with just the left stick...i was accustomed to using a modifier for those moves in previous 2k's...so seeing my player do them automatically without a modifier was really throwing me off. i was trying to do these moves with the right stick, but i really only needed the left stick to do them.

what was confusing me is that there is a bit of a redundancy going on - a lot of similar dribble moves can be performed with both the right stick or the left stick (spins, crossovers, stepbacks). what was messing me up is that i'd be driving and i'd want to do a crossover, so i'd use the right stick to do crossover, but my player would automatically do a crossover with the left stick, then he'd do another dribble move from my right stick input...so my player would do two animations when i only wanted one - the left stick crossover and right stick move were fighting each other. once i stopped using the right stick while moving, it all started to work. the only move i use the right stick for while moving is the behind-the-back, because there is no way to pull that off with just the left stick.
basically, the gist is: when you are driving or moving, only use LS. the 2 exceptions i have are the behind-the-back and hesitation moves - these are the only moves I use RS for while driving or moving.

Would like to know too ... once I receive the ball out of a pass, how can I do this protect the ball motion ? ... last year was with LT I believe.

Make sure you're in the triple threat position then point the right stick away from the basket. Don't move the left stick or you will start dribbling.
