What are your feelings towards the Control Stick?

Me personally I love the new controls, I thought it would take a while for me to feel comfortable with the changes, but that hasn't been the case. I've pulled off some amazing plays, that were impossible to do in previous NBA 2k's.It's bringing a new level of realism to the series and I hope 2k can continue to prefect it.

How about you. Are you having trouble with dribbling? Are you still doing crossovers instead of shooting? How is it going for guys?

Now I have to spend the first week in practice mode mastering every dribble move.

^^ I have no problem with that as I'm in practice mode the first week regardless, but each day I master something and move on. The dribbling system seems easy, but with all these buttons I have to remember to use, ball fake, dunking, bounce pass, it's annoying because they just switched the controls last year (I believe) I wish there was some consistency lol.

Ill have a clear path to the lane and instead of dunking, end up doing some dribble move, me personally I'm having trouble right now cause I'm not familiar with the live dribbling system as I've been playing 2K since 2005.

As we began discussing in the Demo Impressions thread, despite being given options, I don't quite agree with the decision to go with dribbling as the default and shooting as the modifier.

I am pretty sure this was by design to avoid accidental inputs by most users, however.

I believe I read somewhere on here that there's an option where you can switch back to the old controls? Would anyone know if this is correct?

There is - I mentioned it in the post. I'm just referring to the defaults. It will pave the way for most casuals in how they play the game online.

Here are some tips from beluba on using the control stick

For a first year effort... pretty happy with the right stick iso. But it will take another year to get the full design implemented. So ask me again next year. :wink:

As for tips... My advice for those who are still struggling with the controls would be to give it time. It took most people in the office several days, if not longer, to get comfortable with the changes. But at some point it will click and become second nature. Moving Isomotion to the right stick is a necessary step in bringing the floor game of NBA2K to the next level. It will be more apparent when you see the next evolution of the Control Stick in 14.

The other thing I'll add is that there's a rhythm to the moves and how they chain together. It's important to learn them and to use the moves in the proper contexts. Spazzing on the right stick won't get you very far, at least not in the higher difficulty levels or against competent human opponents. It's also important to coordinate where you're trying to go with the left stick before and after right stick moves. That's something that's not really in the manual or in Training Camp. You just kind of have to learn it through trial and error. Also, lay off turbo until you're ready to attack with your drive. Too much turbo will make the dribbler very unwieldy.

When I asked for how to get explosive crosses. I'm posting this just for those that may have missed it.

Make sure you're holding Turbo when you move the LS in the direction you want to drive. Not all sizeup moves have explosive launch branch points, but most do. Best thing to do is to go into practice mode with the full game and experiment.

The main thing is that they give us options so no matter what we want we have something for us. The big thing about the control stick is that is exactly that, a "control" stick. Putting power in my hands to do what i want. Bravo 2k..

Hell, we can even go back to last years controls. Almost like ea and their connected careers feature with its tons of options/s...

I like it def going to take some time to get use to, but I'm using moves this year I never used last year so I def like it. Only thing I hate is the fake pass. When I want to pass sometimes it does a fake pass, but otherwise I like it and it feels good

This is the thing that worried me most an im seein this at times aswell.I wish the LT was the dribble modifier by default.I know you can switch it once the full game comes out but i got a feeling we better start getting use to doin it this way as this seems to be the way moving forward.

Hopefully after a few weeks with the game itll get better but with the demo im not liken it that much although the sysetm does seem deeper.

Pretty apathetic. I don't "feel" like I have "more control" but I've adapted pretty easily to it. One positive thing about it is that I don't feel a hitch between the dribble moves so it does seem smoother. I'm liking the fact that being an idiot on the sticks will likely cause you to lose the ball. It's kind of combining the 2K10 "lose dribble" animation with the 2K12 "live physics".

The Control Stick feels smooth and responsive, I like the fact that you can still use the left stick to pull off cross overs. I also like how you can control your dribble with left stick. If your play is stationary you can rock the left stick back and forth and your player would dribble left to right as fast you want. It like the sizeup dribble from 2k12 but you control the combo it's no longer an animation.

I like it. Given that the 2k series has somewhat of a steep learning curve, I've mastered it over the years and so I want something challenging and mapping all the dribble moves to the RS was a great idea and I think after a month or so people will come around and love it.

For the people that don't like it, is it mainly shooting that you don't like about the control stick? In previous 2k's did you use the shot button or the shot stick?

I'm trying to see if it makes a difference. Me I always used the X or Square for jumpshots, I only use the shot stick when I'm in the post or for finishes, so the new controls are fine with me now. I think that might be the reason why some are more comfortable with the new controls than others, because of their jumpshot preference.
