I don't care about the score but I guarantee you 2K does. And it is still a very good score. However, it's inexcusable to emphasize a negative that is just flat out wrong. They need to fix their "review" ASAP. Not only are there tutorials, but they are new and improved (according to the developer).
Should have IGN given NBA 2K13 a score higher than 9.1?

Re: Should have IGN given NBA 2K13 a score higher than 9.1?
Not really sure how we can criticize when most of us haven't even played the game yet (apart from the demo) ..
The main question is how did 2K12 receive a 9.5/10 - The same as 2K11 ...
IMO 2K12 should have been an 8: just too many bad animations/mechanics .. and that's just the gameplay ...
How do we know the 2K Insider isn't also in-charge of these review ratings too?Last edited by vtcha; 09-29-2012, 09:29 PM.Comment

Exactly! I don't have an opinion on the actual score given, since I don't have the game myself. However, if I was person who didn't frequent forums and relied on media reviews, the only thing that I would have gotten out of it was Justin Beiber was a bad thing and the menus suck.Comment

You should give very little credence to any large entities game "reviews". Especially from games from big developers and ESPECIALLY sports games.
These companies depend on the game companies for their livelihood, they need access, information, scoops, etc.
Case in point, Madden 06-09, 4 God Awful games if released by Bob's Software creations would have been lucky to garner anything above a 5.0.
The gaming industry is a very incestuous business, why people give much credence to reviews is a mystery to me. If I see a big budget release get a 7 or 7.5 from these companies I'm pretty sure it's in reality like a "6" game or even worse because of the dynamic of the industry.
Monster titles from powerhouse publishers like the Madden Series need their own formula, like cut it in half and add 1.5. So an "8" madden game is actually a 4 plus 1.5, making it a 5.5. Madden especially so, the other EA sports games are better than Madden but still get an added point or two because no access from EA would be bad, bad business for any game magazine/website.
It's kind of like your wife asking if she looks fat in that dress, she might, but you better not tell her!
Upset that NBA 2k13 "only" got a 9.1? Why do you need validation that it's better than that? What do you need 9.4? 9.6? Now THAT'S nitpicking! I'm sure it's a good game and I'm looking forward to playing it. I won't enjoy it any more or less based on what big gaming websites have to say about it. If I like it I'll be happy and if one million people all in unison told me that it was the worst game ever made and I'm an idiot for liking it I couldn't care less.Comment

Re: Should have IGN given NBA 2K13 a score higher than 9.1?
IGN game reviews are a joke. They give every EA sports game like an 8.5 or higher, and they gave 2K12 a 9.5, which is pretty much a perfect score. Anyone who got deep into 2K12 knows it's far from perfect. Take their reviews with a grain of salt.Comment

I'm more interested in the content of the review than the score. Out of all the games I purchased, I have yet to think a highly reviewed sucked and lowly reviewed game was great. NBA 2K12 might be the only exception to me. I would have given NBA 2K12 a 7.0 at best.Comment

Re: Should have IGN given NBA 2K13 a score higher than 9.1?
The issue isn't that a 9.1 isn't sufficient on its own merit. It's that the reviewer bumped the grade down (by how much, I wonder) because of faulty information.
Realistically, given everything that is the game and the expectations for sports games (9 ratings being very good), even if there really weren't any Training Camp mode, it shouldn't affect the rating. It's not like it would be a 9.5 otherwise, and tutorials account for 0.4 points on a 10 point scale (or 4% of the whole rating).
So yeah, the review was bad, but the rating was probably on-point. There are just so many +s and -s that they can't address them all. They just try to be funny and/or poignant.Comment

Re: Should have IGN given NBA 2K13 a score higher than 9.1?
It's pretty incredible that they paid someone to review a sports game and he didn't mention a single mode. No talk about a brand new mode MyTeam, no talk about the improvements to MyPlayer and no mention of either Associations.
I think, more than anything, I'm just pissed of that someone actually got paid to write that. I should offer my services to IGN at a quarter of that guys price and promise to actually play the game I'm reviewing for more than an hour.Comment

Sorry. I don't believe in the "Review scores are generous due to being paid off" theory.

Re: Should have IGN given NBA 2K13 a score higher than 9.1?
The OP is beating a dead horse. We knew it would be a review totally lacking in substance and filled with superfluous nonsense. Mainstream games reviewers have the same credibility as sports games raters as rating agencies like Moody's and S&P have with rating CDOs - NONE.Originally posted by Dogslax41Most people that are asking for a simulation game don’t really want a simulation game because its too hard.Comment
