I'm fairly certain the reviewer doesn't watch basketball regularly, much less play basketball games. The stuff he was interested in-Bieber, etc. didn't have anything to do with the gameplay. When he did talk about gameplay features, it seemed like he was reading off a list in an Amazon description of the game.

IGN's(and Gamespot's) reviews have been spotty in recent years. I've stopped trusting them. They both need people on staff that are sports fans and play the major sports games every year, who can compare the new features with last year's game and are knowledgeable about the sport so they can judge whether the changes bring the game closer to the actual sport. Until that happens, which is unlikely, they'll whip out reviews like this.

You can't really say what it deserves, because you yourself haven't played it yet, so it's kind of a moot point.

One thing i will say that annoys me about IGN talking about 2k games is they always focus on presentation stuff that doesn't really matter instead of core gameplay and how much it accurately represents realistic nba basketball. I mean, of course they are just casual players, but i get annoyed seeing articles from them saying stuff like "you can throw alley oops to yourself in nba 2k13 and it has all star weekend this is the greatest basketball game ever guyz!".

They need to get some people that actually care about realistic basketball to review these games instead of casuals. Then you won't see little things like menus, and tutorials not being the easiest to find affecting reviews.

i think nba 2k13 deserves a 9.5. ign don't kno how to rate games.

I haven't played it yet so I can't say for sure, but they may have gotten the score "correct", but not for the right reasons. It looks as if for the first time in a long time that 2K skimped a bit in terms of upgrading Association mode. Not a lot new was added, and from some of the tests that people have been running, it seems if many legacy issues weren't addresed either. If you aren't going to add much to the mode, then the bug fixes need to be on point.

For me that would be enough to knock the game down into the 9.1 to 9.3 range.
