Ok, I have found out more info on the nickname glitch/bug. This only happens in My Career mode. I made several created players with my My Player name, and a few with stock database names 2k provides. The PA announcer ON ALL OFFLINE GAMEMODES (except my career) says your players 1st and last name. The play-by-play commentators also say your players name. Just like 2k11 &12. This bug seems to be isolated in my career mode only. So far, I have not found any work around. Hopefully, 2k will be able to patch this without us having to start our my players over.

Re: Y the nick name calling
Yo Pared, the real funny part is the PA sounds like he says "black hoe". Needless to say, my wife walked by as I was experimenting using different nicknames to see if I can find a workaround for the bug. The PA said "black hole" and she looked at me and said "did your game call me a black hoe". I almost pee'd on myself, I was laughing so hard.Comment

Re: Y the nick name calling
I guess will sound like this. "Black Mamba feeds superman in the post. Superman faces up, striped by flash, outlet pass to king james. King james slams it home. What a play by flash".
This needs to be fixed asap. Im tryin to find a workaround. If I find one, I will post it.Comment

It doesn't bother me, maybe because i picked money as my nickname and they still call me by my last name sometimes. I just get tired of hearing "money was.... money in the first half" at the halftime show.
it would be easily fixed if they just let you select no nickname if you wanted to.Comment

Re: Y the nick name calling
A no nickname option would help. People will eventually get tired of hearing."at the line for 2, The Prophet". Nicknames are cool on blacktop, but in a NBA arena, the realism goes completely out the door.Comment

Re: Y the nick name calling
Someone else posted this but the workaround is don't change your nickname. They'll still call you by it sometimes but most of the time they call my guy by his first and last or just last name. Even Stern announced me by first and last name during the draft which I'd never heard before this game.Comment

Re: Y the nick name calling
I finally got the game today and I just played the rookie showcase and they didn't use my nickname (which is "Silk", it sounded the most like an actual last name/not a dumb sounding nickname).
The last name I chose is "Powell" and they did use it.

Re: Y the nick name calling
If you changed the nickname they'll start saying it after the Rookie Showcase and not your last name.Comment

Re: Y the nick name calling
The workaround did not work for my "my player". Both his first and last name are in the 2k database. I did not change his nickname when creating him. The rookie showcase went fine. The commentators used his nickname sometimes, but the PA never did. Got drafted 5th to the Kings. Stern did not call my name out in the draft. 1st game of the season, PA called my nickname all game long. Commentators didn't. They used it from time to time. Testing all this out, when I made the same exact player and added him to a roster and played an offline exhibition game, the commentators and PA NEVER used his nickname. So I know for sure that the name is indeed in the database and works for other gamemodes besides my career. Weird to say the least. Hopefully, it's something on the list of fixes 2k is working on for the 1st patch.Comment

Re: Y the nick name calling
That's weird, may I ask what system you're playing on? I'm on PS3, my guy's name is Nathan Scott. Maybe you have to actually select the name in the database instead of just typing it out? Other than that I don't know, but I'm totally serious when I say Stern called out my name and they still use my name in the game sometimes -- PA announcers and the commentators.Comment

Re: Y the nick name calling
Anyway, my surname in the game is Strawberry, and the commentators and announcers do use that name. They seem to use the nickname more often though. The MyCareer specific comments I think will always use the nickname.Comment
