    Can you block a dunk?

As I said earlier 2k10's blocked dunks maybe canned but it balanced the game out when it comes dunk happy fools online....as of now its way to offensive heavy and I love playing defense.....2k10 I felt I was a presence in the middle with my player...I don't have that same feeling playing as a defensive center in 2k13...

      Re: Vertical and Blocking

I'm gonna have to agree with the minority here. I think blocking is just fine. It seems like people are forgetting that 2k is meant to be a sim...A)How many blocked dunks happen over the course of a real NBA game? Usually 0. You may see 1 blocked dunk every once in a while. I get that it's frustrating that you can't block a dunk, but it's not really game breaking, as it rarely occurs in the NBA. As far as people who are angry that they can't rack up double digit blocks in a game: Serge Ibaka led the league last year averaging 3.16 blocks per game. McGee/Howard were 2-3 respectively averaging 2.16/2.15 bpg.

I play as a 7'1 defensive center (75 block, 67 vert) and average about 2 bpg, through my first 18 games. My high game in blocks I had 7. I feel that's pretty realistic. Having really high block numbers is even more rare than blocked dunks in the NBA.

If we are talking a realistic here...how often do players in the NBA just lay up and DUNK on top of multiple players without having their shot affected or actually just move the defensive player out the way? It has to be balanced somehow...

I'm not saying the game is entirely realistic, but players get dunked on WAY more often than they get their dunks blocked at the rim. Every single night in the NBA sees at least one player get posterized. Whereas its super-rare that people get checked trying to dunk. This is because in real life players going up for a dunk either change their shot, get fouled, or dunk on the defender.

So to me, I'd rather see people get dunked on more frequently than getting their dunks blocked. Also, though it does happen sometimes, you really only see the highlight reel dunkers banging on defenders in the game, just like real life. If someone like Shannon Brown was easily (and consistently) banging on Howard I'd see a point, but that doesn't happen.

Edit: These comments are not related to Blacktop, I've never played that mode

Blocking is working fine for me personally&hellip;.for some reason pressing turbo + block barely gets your player up in the air, don&rsquo;t understand that at all&hellip;.but when I press Y by itself, my defenders sky for blocks&hellip;.and its much more contextual. I have no issues blocking shots.

Now as far as blocking dunks? Doesn&rsquo;t matter, they seem to animate right over you. If I know the player is coming in for a dunk, holding LT will at the least create contact 90% of the time&hellip;.ive also gotten some blocks this way too.

              Re: Vertical and Blocking

Generally I've noticed you have to stay on your feet and put a body on the offensive player. Certain contact animations are primed to allow you to hit block and swat someones shot.

I haven't had much luck blocking someone from a standstill or while roaming the paint, you just seem to wiff blocks horribly for some reason. Something I'm hoping 2K works on for the patch.

                Re: Vertical and Blocking

Since when did this nonsense about vertical mattering when it came to blocks?

You do know guys like Marcus Camby, Tyson Chandler, and even Anthony Davis barely leave thier feet when they block a shot don't you?

                <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/FPqTZtOdrq0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

You see how quickly they left their feet in order to time the block?

I don't have any problems blocking shots with Ibaka or Howard. Why? Not because they have elite vertical for a big man, but because they have elite quickness for a big man. Their is a reason Ibaka blocks so many shots in real life and it's not because just because he can jump high but it's because he's fast as hell as a big man and he gets off the ground extremely quick. As shown in that video.

Great point in the animations/contact into blocks note. These are most effective for players like Timmy, Camby etc. who don't really get air.

Re: the whiffs....like I said before, I got a lot of whiffs using RT + Y to block....players seem to take flat out terrible angles. Y on its own has yea idled much better results. Got a beautiful pin on the backboard with Pek yesterday when I was behind a player,..

Yeah, I figured turbo could be an issue a couple days ago. I've been messing around more with just Y on its own and a bit of LT + Y. Y on it's own does seem better, I'll have to experiment with it a bit more.

                      Re: Vertical and Blocking

Turbo+Y seems to be for weak side help blocks and chase down blocks.

Y seems like it would work better in the half court where the offensive player is going (or being funneled) to where the help is.

I dont play blacktop because it's arcady but in Mycareer and Assoc, the blocking is great. I don't know what these kids are complaining about
