Re: Ronnie tweets Off Rebounding is being addressed

needs to be toned down, but not by much.
cause the key to boxing out is hitting the L2 button as soon as the CPU shoots. its not L2 once the ball is at the rim cause by then you are basically out of position, and its too late for your team mates to box for rebounding.

Ive been able to cut down he cpu offensive rebounding down substantially. could still be tweaked a little.
again its boxing out as soon as the player shoots.

    thats my take

For online leagues out there, and for whom they like to play with sliders, just tune down the vertical to 25 and you'll see how it improves for the better overall rebounding..

I don't see the big deal. I just manually box out after every shot and that causes the cpu to do the same. I rarely see crazy offensive rebounds. Doing this even allows my guards to get rebounds if they're in position. Sure it's a manual fix, but it's something I'd be doing anyway... so I don't really see the big deal.

I think the small adjustments in sliderach going to eliminate this problem.

I've tried to manually rebound when a shot goes up but it feels like there is a second delay where I can't really control my player.

If I remember correctly, they even did it in a patch. Tell 2K to just do what they did two years ago. Also, this time, make sure the fix goes into the mainline code.

Its too hard to box out even if your playing as the guy, and that doesn't even mention the fact that your teammates hardly box out. Really boxing out needs to be addressed, not so much the Oboards.

there's plenty of boxing out but not a lot of real battles down low ala oakley or rodman. but guys still do box out. at least they don't just sort of stand there. i have no problem doing it myself but it's the CPU and AI teammates. the game is very good overall. never said it wasn't fine. rebounding is more annoying than anything else.

Right, it was in a patch:

Improved AI logic for boxing out, ensuring that players go into boxout situations when appropriate.
2k, do this again, and keep it in there please.

Another note from 2k11's patch details:

Big men with low vertical ratings will now jump the appropriate height when rebounding and contesting shots.
                        This too!!

I mean toning down offensive rebounds for the CPU automatically tune the players on your team to box out accordingly... No? At least that's what is happening on my regular games vs. the CPU... Sliders fixes everything in this game as far as gameplay outside of MyCareer mode... I agree it needs to be fixed, but worrying about unrealistic gameplay is the least of your concerns...

I put CPU rebounding at 0.... Works perfect IMHO.

Pessimism doesn't equal whining. Why is it that anytime somebody says something that's not sunshine and rainbows about the game you're quick to say they're whining?

Anyway, i'm glad to hear that they at least realize it needs to be fixed(don't know why they would release it like that anyway though.). Hopefully they'll be able to patch it correctly. If they do, it'll be a HUUGE deal to me. It'll make the game soo much better.

Eh, the problem with that is, then you feel too overpowered on rebounds. It's not that people don't want the CPU to get any rebounds and just want to out rebound them every time, they just want rebounds to be grabbed realistically.

We're just being realistic and wanting to make sure the devs understand the root cause of the problem.

Ronny simply said offensive rebounds would be toned down without mentioning box outs. We can tone down rebounds ourselves with sliders but it's clearly not the right fix-- so it's cause for concern. We've seen superficial fixes by 2K in the past that didn't address systemic issues, and as a developer, I've been guilty of that myself in instances when I didn't fully understand a problem.

We just want to make sure 2K understands the situation and gets it right. I have some confidence in them because they've fixed it right before. The 2K11 patch was fantastic. At the same time, the problem comes back every year, so it's kind of a wash.

I will say that I have some hope that 2K13 will be incredible after the patch-- because there are really only a few major issues, and they're very obvious ones that are easily reproducable so a fix is likely, that is, if 2K is as devoted to postgame support as they were on 2K11:

                                1. Lack of AI boxouts.
                                2. Lack of contact/defense in the paint and ease scoring with post moves.
                                3. Lack of contact/defense on drives.
                                4. Broken playcalling/CPU fastbreaks on every rebound/high CPU points in paint.
                                5. Open shots (and shots in general) going in too often. This one is probably easily remedied by sliders, but it'd be good for that to be part of stock gameplay.

A few tweaks, a few bug fixes, and we're pretty much gold.
